Chapter 297: Regrets
After the evolution had completed, Lucian finally opened his eyes and sensed his surroundings. Despite the red protective layer around the room, the commotion he had caused was too big.
"Err... I didn't expect that just evolving from the 7th to 8th phase would cause so much disturbance. If it wasn't for Velm, the entire building might have fallen," Lucian whispered.
[Yeah, next time you absorb energy like that, do it in an empty space. Anyway, you're finally at the 8th phase. This level of growth is indeed quite terrifying, but considering how you had destroyed several planets, it is to be expected.]
Lucian nodded and stood up. He pulled back Velm and gazed at the walls of the office that were badly cracked. It seemed Diana would have to use a different room for some time.
"The whole building is empty. They must be thinking it was an earthquake. Let's leave. I wonder how my mother is going to react once she doesn't find me," Lucian mumbled and began to walk. He soon sensed that a woman had just entered the building and was running up the stairs.
"Oh!! Why is she coming back here? I thought abandoning others for her benefits was a hobby of hers. Why is she acting different this time?" He really felt confused seeing her act like that.
From the time they had met, she had been acting weird. Lucian really wondered if she had fallen that deeply for her own son.
[Tsk tsk. Love is really magical. It can change people completely in the blink of an eye. Even the haughty Diana had succumbed to it. Sigh... She is already done for. It is going to hurt more than just getting her company destroyed.]
Seeing her act like that, Lucian gave up on the idea of just leaving. Now that she was already in the trap, she was going to be more and more lost.
Diana's face was covered in sweat. She was panting after climbing over ten floors. It seemed she might really faint at any moment.
With great difficulty, she dragged her tired body towards her office. Even though the building had already stopped shaking, she was feeling really anxious. This feeling was a million times more intense than anything she had felt before. Not even her business could make her feel like this.
Taking a deep breath, she pushed open the door to her office and found Lucian standing right in front of her.
"Huh? W-Why... huff... are you still here?" Diana leaned against the door, completely out of breath as she questioned.
"You are back? Sorry, I fell asleep. Is something wrong? Why do you look like that? And there is something wrong with your office. It looks a little broken. It has nothing to do with me." Lucian spoke with an honest look on his face.
Diana was shocked at first, but after hearing his words, she couldn't hold back her laughter. Even in such a dangerous situation, he was still acting like that. In between her ragged breathing, she kept giggling.
"You... haa haa... didn't notice the shaking of the entire building? You really fell asleep? Hahaha..." Diana held her belly and laughed. Even though the situation wasn't funny, the way he said it and his expression made her laugh uncontrollably for a few minutes.
"Anyway, you are fine, right? You didn't get injured during the earthquake just now, did you?" Diana asked as she glanced at her office and found it strange since it seemed her office had suffered the most in the entire building.
"Yes, I'm fine. But... you should sit down and rest. You look breathless...ly gorgeous." Lucian smiled and leaned towards her.
"Haa... You are at it again, but you don't accept when I try to flirt with you—" Diana pouted, but instead of thinking, she accidentally said it out loud.
"Hmm? So are you trying to flirt with me? You really like me? Don't tell me all the things you did yesterday weren't just drunken mistakes and even this business deal was to keep me closer? I heard you love your company the most, so you won't do that, right?" Lucian asked, taking her soft hand and pulling her into the room before making her sit on the chair.
"…" Diana nervously chewed her red, tender lip, as if she had been caught red-handed. But being an experienced businesswoman, she composed herself quickly and looked back into his eyes.
"How about we spend some time together? That way we can both be sure of our feelings. But there are too many complications in this relationship. I don't know if you will even accept being in a relationship with me after knowing about them," Diana said hesitantly. Even though she loved being near him, she also didn't want to hide anything.
"Complications? Like what?" Lucian asked as his lips curled up. He already knew what problems she was thinking about.
"First of all, as you can see, there is a large gap between our ages. If we walk on the road together, no one would even think that we are a couple. We are more than twenty years apart..." As she spoke, her voice kept getting weaker. She raised her eyes slightly to see his reaction.
"To be honest, I don't care about that at all. When I first saw you, I was indeed attracted to you. I wasn't lying or joking when I said you look gorgeous, so you at least don't have to worry about that. Then what else?" Lucian asked while in his mind he was thinking about a different matter.
'The proficiency of Velm is better than I thought. It seems all the chasms on this Earth will be covered very soon, and after that, I will leave this place to prepare for the coming disaster. So I will have to deal with this mother of mine before I leave. Later, I will have to increase my strength as much as possible. Thankfully, on the Reverse Earth, the number of chasms is several times more than this Earth. I shall still destroy them all before the timer ends,' he concluded.
"You really don't care about more than a twenty-year age gap?" Diana asked in surprise. Seeing his reaction, for a moment she even wondered if he just wanted to get close to her because of her beauty, and after getting bored of her, he would leave. But she quickly shook her head—she was sure he wasn't that kind of person.
"Yeah," Lucian nodded and waited for her to continue.
"You don't know, but I am a divorcee. I was married for a little over three years. After that, I divorced my husband to start this business and focus on my own life. A-And I even had a child with him," Diana added. This was definitely a big negative point. Lucian was young, handsome, rich, intelligent, and of course, unmarried—or at least she believed so.
And she was a divorcee who even had a child. She really felt that now Lucian was going to reject her. Thinking about separating from him, Diana was already regretting several of her decisions, both old and new.
