Chapter 298: A chance
Diana was regretting several of her decisions at this moment, both from past and present.
Like getting married before or telling him about all this now. Maybe if she hadn't gotten married at that time and waited for the perfect man—her soulmate—then she would be a happy couple with him.
What she didn't know was that if she hadn't married and had a child, then she would have never even met Lucian in the first place.
"I see. Well, that is news for me. Where are your husband and child?" As Lucian spoke, he showed absolutely no emotion on his face, making Diana feel even more nervous and fearful.
"Uh... My ex-husband, he died. And as for my son, I haven't seen him ever since we separated, so I don't know anything about him. It's been around seventeen years since we separated," Diana replied, gazing at his face, dreading the outcome.
"How can I believe you won't leave me in the future for this company of yours?" After a pause, he added:
"I will be honest with you. After meeting, I looked up your information on the internet, and the things I found are rather... let's say not good.
You are mean, selfish, cold, apathetic, kinless, and whatnot. You easily left your family, you only think about yourself, and won't hesitate to abandon or betray even your own family to achieve your goals. So how can I trust a woman like you?"
A shudder went through Diana's body. Of course, she had heard countless words like these online and even in her company, but she was never affected by any of them.
If she believed that she was right, then it didn't matter to her what others said—but now each of Lucian's questions and words hit her like arrows, directly piercing through her body.
'A woman like me...' These words continued to ring in her mind. They pained her more than she could have ever imagined.
And Lucian wasn't wrong. It was all true. She had really abandoned her family just to achieve her goal in their difficult times. But only now she was regretting everything.
'So any kind of relation was impossible between us right from the start? Is there really no other way...' No matter how much she thought about it, Diana really couldn't think of anything.
It's not like she could change the past, and now matter what she said, it would be empty and meaningless. But just as she was sinking deeper and deeper into despair, Lucian's voice sounded.
"I guess rumors are rumors after all. They really can't always be trusted. You certainly aren't anything other people make you look. If you really had those qualities, you would never have come back into this building just to find me. You certainly aren't selfish and a... backstabber." He smiled faintly while speaking.
Diana was stunned. Since she was so nervous after not finding him, without even thinking, she had rushed back to find him. But thinking about it now, she realized how her actions were something that her past self never would have taken.
She would treasure her own life more than anything.
Seeing some hope, Diana raised her gaze and expectantly looked at him. She didn't understand why, but her attraction toward him was dangerously close to obsession.
"Alright, I can give you a chance. We will spend a short time together, and based on that, we can decide if there will be any relation between us or not," Lucian spoke after pondering for a moment.
Diana's eyes widened with joy. After being surprised, a smile blossomed on her beautiful face—a rare and genuine smile that seemed to come out often as long as he was close.
'Yes, with this I can also find out if these feelings are really love or just something else, but I will have to do my best,' she made a resolve to herself.
"So, when can we spend more time together?" she asked in a low voice, still feeling a little flustered from his earlier words.
"Hmm, how about going out tomorrow?" he replied with a question.
"Ah, tomorrow I have an important meet—" Diana suddenly paused as she saw Lucian's expression changing. She was afraid that he might think she was giving more priority to her company, so she changed her words at the last moment.
"Fine, fine, tomorrow is fine. Should I prepare for the date—for this testing—or are you going to do it?" she questioned after a moment.
"I will take care of that. I'll send you the details later, just come on time," Lucian answered.
Diana nodded her head repeatedly, holding back her urge to hug him, cuddle with him, and... kiss him.
She felt a bit embarrassed by her own thoughts and reactions. Her mind just wouldn't listen to her or calm down. In less than a day, Lucian seemed to have not only captured her mind, heart, and soul, but he also seemed to have changed her to some extent.
"I will be going for now. I'm sure you would need to focus on this building of yours and the workers here for the time being," Lucian said as he took a step back.
"You are leaving? We are going to meet tomorrow, right?" Diana wanted to make sure that Lucian wasn't going to disappear like a dream.
"Yeah, I don't go back on my words. Make sure you aren't late, or we might never meet again," Lucian replied as he began to move toward the door. He could hear several people rushing into the building, probably to find her.
Diana once again nodded her head, making a note in her heart to not be even a minute late the next day as she watched Lucian's disappearing figure.
Even though she wanted to spend more time, before the final step of the relationship, both of them had to make their hearts stable and finally realize their feelings.
Leaving behind his flustered and confused mother, Lucian disappeared from the building just after taking a few steps away from the office.
His speed had increased so much that it was almost like teleportation. After reaching the 8th phase of evolution, the increase in his strength was on another level.
After he arrived some distance away from the Browns company building, Lucian stopped and glanced back as a frown appeared on his face.
"Why is she acting so different from what I expected and how she was in the past..." he mumbled lightly. Things weren't going as he had expected at all.
Even if he didn't want to admit it, her current actions were affecting him, so he decided to finish his small revenge as soon as possible before the task got too difficult to accomplish.
'Even though we are nothing more than strangers, then what is the reason for such a big change in her? Sigh... the more I think, the more confusing it becomes. It's better to not think about it,' he thought and decided to put it at the back of his mind for now.
His figure blurred—he disappeared. Instantly, he arrived in the sky with red wings spreading on his back. Just as he was about to fly, a text appeared in his mind.
