---------------------------------------------------------Akemi Tenzaki had wanted to leave for a long time but couldn't find a good excuse to reasonably request it from her boss. Who would have thought the boss didn't want her there either? Perfect!
"Hello, Mom?" Erina greeted, then paused. "Um... do you remember Hisako Arato ?" She wasn't sure if her mother remembered Hisako, who used to always follow Erina when they were little. It had been a long time.
"What about her? Is something wrong?" Mana Nakiri's tone was as calm and breezy as ever.
"I called her over to stay with me. The room is too small; it can't fit four people. Please let your secretary leave," Erina stated her intention simply. If one person could be a spoiler in the room, and a familiar person could also be a spoiler, why not choose someone who made her life more comfortable? Mana Nakiri's thought process might have been to send someone to disrupt the romance of a two-person world, because in such a romantic environment, anything could happen on impulse.
So, replacing that person with another wouldn't ruin the idea; it could still work.
"Hisako Arato is staying in your room?" Mana Nakiri still had her desire for control. She wasn't keen on just swapping people. Akemi Tenzaki was her person and could report situations in detail. If she asked Hisako Arato , the information she received might be watered down.
"That's fine too. I'll explain the situation to the Old Man,"
Mana Nakiri quickly thought of another solution. This way, she could also suppress Erina's 'arrogance.' Hisako Arato was a Totsuki student, and the effort the Old Man put into Totsuki was immense. Plus, the Old Man had taken care of Erina for so many years, so Erina's friends couldn't possibly not communicate with him. If she told the Old Man, he would definitely contact Hisako Arato , and that would serve as a safety lock.
Although in this world, normal people's lives are usually quite normal, Mana Nakiri was still concerned about abnormal things happening. Two girls and one boy in a room, with both girls being acquaintances. Even if Mana Nakiri was willing to believe that Erina and Hisako Arato were traditional girls who upheld old customs, she couldn't afford not to take precautions.
"Okay," Erina said calmly. "You can contact him." She and Renz, at their age, wouldn't truly do anything. She was still counting on her fingers, calculating the time of their child's birth. The family's concerns were something they could adhere to.
At most, it would just be a kiss. But when the secretary was there, Erina felt an awkward atmosphere even for a kiss, always feeling like someone was watching. But with Hisako, Erina would be much more open and wouldn't feel uncomfortable.
Mana Nakiri was surprised by Erina's composure, but seeing Erina offer a new solution, she didn't forcefully press Erina to change her mind. Instead, she chose a different approach to handle the situation.
The process might be different, but the outcome should be the same.
"Alright, Miss Secretary, congratulations on being fired. You can go back to your own room now," Erina said, hanging up the phone and returning it to Akemi Tenzaki.
"Thank you so much!" Akemi Tenzaki bowed, relieved.
Staying here was more exhausting than handling paperwork. After quickly packing her things, she slowly opened the door and quietly left amid Erina and Hisako Arato 's explanations. Akemi Tenzaki let out a long sigh of relief. She had finally... escaped!
"What? Are you two living in the same room?" Hisako Arato was caught off guard by Erina's revelation during their explanation. In Hisako Arato 's innocent eyes, "living together" was a very ambiguous term, one she couldn't even imagine, as it felt too distant for her.
"Yes," Renz chimed in. "But Erina's family is a bit uneasy about us living together, so they sent someone to look after us."
If I were them, I wouldn't be at ease either, Hisako Arato mused internally. With a man and a woman alone in a room, and if the man were to give in to his primal urges, there would be no stopping him.
"Actually, if you use your brain, you'd know it's impossible. The soundproofing here feels quite bad," Erina said, a bit helplessly. "If the soundproofing isn't good, I'd be quite embarrassed about that sort of thing."
Please stop your dangerous statements! So, if the soundproofing is good, it's fine? Your standards are too low!
"Hisako, if you come and live with us, sleeping at night will be much more comfortable," Erina complained. "It's really uncomfortable sleeping on the same bed with a stranger."
Is that why you sleep on the bed during the first half of the night, then can't sleep and just lie on the floor during
the second half?
"No offense, but I still feel like your progress bar is moving too fast. What stage are you two at now?"
Hisako Arato 's words were quite direct. From her perspective, Renz and Erina dating for one or two months and then quickly moving in together was almost as fast as a shotgun marriage.
"Too fast?" Erina gave an awkward smile. She didn't feel it was fast at all; in fact, it felt perfectly natural.
"Enough chat. I've explained the general situation to you. If the Old Man calls and asks, just report the truth of our situation," Erina said, beginning to unpack the laptop bags. Two gaming laptops were taken out.
"I bet the Director-General will drop by directly," Hisako Arato already anticipated what would happen next.
"No big deal. If he comes, he comes. It'll be good for him to observe Renz's cooking skills again," Erina said nonchalantly. "Renz, log on. What do you want to play?"
"Coming," Renz said, taking out the other laptop. The hotel room had an Ethernet connection, though the quality of the internet was another matter.
"I'll see if I can stream here," Renz said. He still wanted to stream; it had been a while since he streamed games or chatted with his viewers. A few days ago, he had chatted with his viewers on QQ about various topics, and his old viewers were all looking forward to his streams.
"If the internet is normal, I'll set the stream to HD. If the internet is good, I'll go for ultra-HD. As for the game... let's check Steam first," Renz mused. The gaming laptops Hisako Arato bought were expensive, so they naturally came with a set of peripherals. Each gaming laptop was equipped with a Razer Kraken headset and an EC2A-style mouse. Not top-tier, but still mid-to-high range.
"Are we really playing a horror game?" Erina was also ready, operating more smoothly than Renz. Steam was already downloading on her laptop. However, there was only one Ethernet cable in the room, so Erina had to connect wirelessly.
"Yes," Renz nodded. "Other games are either too time-consuming for us to play for half a day, or they're too grindy. For a short, one-time play session, horror games are a good choice." To be fair, if Erina really didn't want to play horror games, Renz could choose other genres.
"Then can I pick the game?" Erina asked.
"Sure, you pick. But... Erina, are you brave enough to face your fears now?" Renz asked, surprised.
"I'll tell you a secret: I actually fake being scared of horror games," Erina said, feigning composure. "It's not to elicit a man's natural protective instincts. I can play horror games and clear them in one go without screaming once."
"It seems I underestimated you," Renz said, realizing the situation.
"See? Do you feel my greatness?" Erina snorted. "A mere horror game, I can just play through it easily."
"Why do I feel like you're faking it?" Renz still felt something was off.
"Faking it? How could I be?" Erina's mouse moved, and without a sound, she quietly turned down the computer's volume. That way, the horror game's background music shouldn't scare her. "You just haven't seen me unleash my full power."
"Let's play this one," Erina said, copying and pasting the searched game title. Many games on Steam had entirely English titles.
"'Campus Ghost Record - Escape from Heaven.'" Renz scanned the description. The general gameplay wasn't much different from traditional horror games. It had puzzle elements, story elements, and then sections of escape and hide-and-seek.
At first glance, it didn't seem like much, but playing it would be quite thrilling. During the game, supernatural entities would continuously pursue your character, and you would encounter many intense scenes.
"Alright then, let's grab some tea, and then I'll start the stream." Renz got up to go to the kitchen and pour two cups of tea for Erina and himself.
