Chapter 912: Civilization Destroyed, Dragon Emperor Awakened (I)
The land where the demonic domain had once been destroyed had now fully recovered. The shattered ground had been repaired, and a vast new city had risen in its place. Dark demonic qi curled around the towering walls of the city of Purgatory, and true demons walked the streets in large numbers under the bright moonlight.
True demon "children" over two meters tall held leashes that restrained all sorts of terrifying demonized beasts. Above them, colossal creatures with dragon bloodlines flew across the sky, pulling massive chariots. Elite demon guards surrounded each chariot, flying alongside them as escorts. The scene was vibrant and full of life, so much so that it was hard to believe this place was once destroyed.
Outside the towering city walls of the demonic domain, more than a thousand massive figures hovered in midair. Demonic qi surged around them as they stood in solemn formation, and gazed ahead while radiating a powerful, terrifying presence.
At the head of these true demons was Tarorya, who was recovering from her injuries as she remained seated high upon her throne. Behind her stood a great demon king, followed by four demon kings.
Only after them came Brooks and the elite Purgatory nobles who had hurried back to join Tarorya. In the crowd of demons, Brooks didn't stand out despite being a peak-stage Ninth Demonic Mark "true" demon.
Next to him, a fork-horned true demon excitedly said, "Brooks, do you think King Barus will promote us once this audience ends and we return to the frontlines?"
Brooks slowly nodded. "I think so. After all, we returned to the empire for advanced training. With our current strength, which is already on par with an average demon king, we're the strongest in the Assassination Division apart from the demon kings themselves."
"Good. That's good." Guludeen clearly looked forward to showing off once they returned. "Once we're back, I hope I get to lead a division in the department. I'll make sure to kill a few human geniuses to assert my authority."
When he mentioned that, Brooks' expression changed subtly. Fortunately, the true demon didn't notice the slight shift in his gaze.
Just as Brooks and Guludeen finished speaking, a demon-god-level pressure swept down from the sky. The entire world darkened in an instant, as the moonlight above the dome was swallowed by the surging black demonic qi. Within that endless sea of darkness, several colossal figures loomed faintly in and out of sight.
When the churning black demonic clouds appeared above the demonic domain, all of the true demons, led by Tarorya, respectfully lowered their heads. "We greet Your Majesty, and all honored demon gods."
Seated atop his skull throne, Deorus gazed down at the figures below. He turned slightly and looked toward the demon god beside him, whose appearance was fierce and menacing. "Stephenel, ahead lies my demonic palace. Let us enter first."
The demon god known as Stephenel looked at the true demons below and nodded. It stood over one hundred meters tall in its natural form. Its entire body was covered in black-scaled armor, and it radiated a deep, terrifying aura. Unlike the majority of true demons, it had only a single pair of massive, curved horns on its head.
Deorus' empire was not as fragile as the rumors claimed. Even with most of its forces stationed at the frontlines, the strength of those left behind remained formidable. In the demonic domain, which was split into northern and southern regions, each regional center was guarded by a peak great demon king, with several demon kings assisting in governance.
Furthermore, among the elite younger generation, several true demons had already reached the peak of the Ninth Demonic Mark. The traces of life on their bodies showed that they were still in their prime.
Inside the towering palace, dark demonic qi swirled across the floor. Enormous black stone pillars, each a hundred meters in diameter, rose straight into the air. They stretched for several thousand meters before disappearing into a twisted dark-red world above. The building was so vast that, when the thousands of true demons stood spread out below, not a single demonic figure could be seen at all.
Atop the palace steps, four demon gods sat upon their thrones. The space around them twisted and distorted, wrapped in dark demonic qi that obscured their forms. Only their terrifying divine pressure filled the air. In front of these demon gods, only Tarorya was allowed to remain seated, and even then, her throne was positioned below theirs.
Deorus lowered his gaze slightly and asked in a deep voice, "Tarorya, how goes the task I entrusted to you?"
Under the watchful eyes of the four demon gods, Tarorya's expression grew heavy. "I used a secret art to alter my life aura and infiltrated the human rear lines. I made some troubling discoveries. The Alliance of Gods has likely sided fully with the humans. In addition, all of the demon kings, assassination operatives, intelligence units, and even the demonized aliens we had embedded in the frontlines have been rooted out almost entirely. However, I was able to reestablish contact with a few human traitors through a communications device used by the intelligence division. I learned that ten star-hours[1] ago, Chu Batian returned to the human race. It appears that his strength hasn't declined much at all, and his aura is still overwhelming."
"Chu Batian is still alive, and he hasn't weakened?" Deorus's expression darkened.
During their battle, Chen Chu had completely burned through his origin life essence. Then, deep within the chaotic temporal currents, he was attacked by a titan-level time-based entity and swept into a spatial-temporal storm. Under such circumstances, for a mythical-level human to survive was already miraculous. But to recover from those injuries and return to battle so quickly? This defied all reason!
Livedes, the demon god from the Ancestral Court, also darkened in expression. Its voice turned cold and low. "I sealed that human using the power of four Primordial Ancestor decrees. I locked down his summoning secret art, the inner world he had created, the power of the Supreme Hell, and even severed the fate of the human race from him. With his level of strength, even if he somehow survived, he should have been in a severely wounded state."
Tarorya nodded grimly. "That was what shocked me as well. It's clear now that Chu Batian's monstrous nature was beyond even our estimates. Even his luck defies reason. Besides that, I've also received news that envoys of the Heavenly Feathered Race appeared behind human lines."
"The Heavenly Feathered Race?" Deorus was surprised. "Is that the same civilization fighting the Morro Empire?"
"Yes, Your Majesty," Tarorya said. "Not only did they appear in the human rearlines, but the humans have also dispatched an expeditionary force to the Heavenly Feathered Battlefield. However, the human traitors I turned were too low in rank to uncover the strength or identities of the expeditionary force."
At that, cold sneers appeared on the faces of the two unfamiliar demon gods. Stephenel coldly said, "A mere ordinary civilization of a minor race, and you can't even hold them back? You're even provoking Tyretis as well? Do you want to die?"
Livedes nodded in agreement. "It is indeed suicide. From what I know, Tyretis has already launched a final extinction campaign against the Feathered Race. After hundreds of years of attrition, even if the Feathered Race joins forces with this human expeditionary force, they'll still be crushed into dust."
At that moment, a formless power enveloped the four demon gods, as well as Tarorya. Only then did Deorus speak. "It seems we must reassess the current strength of the human race. With the Alliance now supporting them, their rearlines have become stable, allowing them to fully commit to direct confrontation with our forces on the frontlines.
"There are already three known human cultivators who have reached the demon god level. In addition, there is Zhenwu, whose power matches that of a demon god, and Chu Batian, who can summon that colossal beast. Although his summoning secret art was sealed by the Primordial Ancestor's power, if his aura remains unaffected, then something may have gone wrong with the seal. We must consider him a threat as well. Then, if a divine king from the Alliance intervenes, the humans will have at least six demon god-level combatants."
At that, every demon god's expression grew grim.
