Chapter 70: Senju Dissolution
Therefore, to obtain sufficient resettlement fees, Mito Uzumaki had Ling Uzumaki notify Shiyu Uchiha, while having other Uzumaki Clan members inform the other ninja clans in Konoha. Mito was laying down paths and building connections for them after realizing Sarutobi and their four allied families couldn't be relied upon.
After receiving notification from Ling Uzumaki, Shiyu Uchiha immediately returned home to tell Uchiha Shizhi. After talking it over, mother and son decided to follow their original plan. Shiyu Uchiha carried a large sealing scroll and took all the family's available money before quickly heading to Mito Uzumaki's residence.
Shiyu Uchiha got straight to the point upon meeting Mito Uzumaki. "Water Grandma, I'm here. I brought the money."
After greeting her, he took out the large sealing scroll, released its seal, revealing a large sum of money that even made Mito herself feel slightly astonished.
"You're the first one here, so you can go first," Mito Uzumaki said casually.
Though surprised by how quickly Shiyu Uchiha had arrived—she had just sent word not long ago—Mito kept her word since she held a favorable impression of him, directly letting Shiyu make the first selection among all clearly priced property deeds.
After thanking her, Shiyu Uchiha began choosing without hesitation. He was worried others would show up soon—especially the F4—and he knew he couldn't compete with them.
As he looked through the items, he found the prices offered by Mito were surprisingly low—roughly thirty to fifty percent of their actual value—essentially a fire sale. Most importantly, some valuable properties were normally unattainable with mere money.
Meanwhile, Konoha's F4 heard that Shiyu Uchiha was on his way to Grandma Mito's house and immediately grew anxious, holding a quick meeting.
"Hiruzen, we can't wait anymore. We should leave now, or else the best properties will be taken when the Uchiha arrive," they said. They didn't think Shiyu could raise that much money so fast and assumed Uchiha Shizhi must've handled it, but they were still afraid the best deals would be taken.
"Alright, how much funding have you managed to raise?" Hiruzen Sarutobi asked.
The three then reported their collected funds to Hiruzen, who mentally calculated before nodding and saying, "It's over thirty percent now. Let's go." With that, the group set off together.
Shiyu Uchiha continued selecting several property deeds, estimating afterward that although his chosen share only constituted one percent of total properties, their value was high—nearly one twentieth of the overall worth. Feeling satisfied, he turned to look at Mito Uzumaki.
"Grandma Mito, I've finished choosing," he announced.
A small portion consisted of property deeds from cities near Konoha Village—relatively limited in number—as many former Senju members who had given up their clan names chose these instead.
The majority were property deeds from major cities in the Land of Fire—these were incredibly valuable properties.
"You little rascal, you sure know how to pick only the best stuff," Mito Uzumaki teased with a smile, not really upset at all.
"That's not from the clan. This is my own money. The clan's funds haven't arrived yet." Shiyu Uchiha said proudly. After all, very few ninja clans in Konoha could match such a sum even at the clan level, and when it came to individuals, it was practically unmatched.
Hearing this, Mito Uzumaki felt extremely surprised inwardly, but then she recalled something from years ago—when Kagami Uchiha had just become Tobirama Senju's disciple. Hashirama Senju was still alive back then, and Kagami had once unintentionally mentioned that his younger sister had a strong passion for accumulating wealth. Out of her respect for Uchiha Shizhi, she remembered that offhand comment.
Still, Mito hadn't imagined she'd be this passionate about it. She didn't ask further questions. Instead, she pulled out a small wooden box and asked Shiyu Uchiha to place the land deed inside. She then performed a sealing technique, storing the box within a scroll. After that, guided by Mito, Shiyu quietly slipped away.
Meanwhile, as the Fire Country Four were heading toward Mito Uzumaki's residence, Uchiha Shizhi, with assistance from several elders, directly mobilized a massive portion of the clan's liquid assets and also headed toward Mito's home.
At the same time, various ninja clans like Hyuga, Inuzuka, Nara, Aburame, and others, big and small, rapidly gathered large sums of money and made their way to Mito Uzumaki's house as well.
However, they brought relatively insufficient funds. Unlike Sarutobi and their four allied families, who'd had several extra days' notice, these clans hadn't received any insider tips from someone like Shiyu Uchiha, so their preparations were incomplete.
Yet this still greatly angered Sarutobi and the four allied families hoping to profit. Even using the Hokage's authority in the end, they barely managed to gather just over thirty percent more than originally planned. This meant spending double their intended budget and offending many people along the way—after all, when money was on the line, even the Hokage's authority wasn't very effective anymore.
This situation allowed the Senju Clan to smoothly sell off clan assets while dispersing, successfully raising huge funds. As a result, clan members received generous severance payments. When Mito Uzumaki noticed surplus funds remaining, she even gave them extra to start their own businesses and distributed most internal village enterprises among them.
Shiyu Uchiha, who had been deeply involved throughout the entire process, also discovered that although the Senju were dividing up their clan, the separation wasn't entirely thorough. According to blood relations, they formed dozens of smaller ninja clans to ensure no children would be left unattended without both parents.
Some settled permanently within Konoha, while others set up new homes on the outskirts of the village and connected with other small ninja clans nearby. Shiyu suspected that these other small clans might also be branches of the Senju.
Furthermore, Shiyu found out that some among them had contacted two good friends he had met during his time at the ninja academy—Taki Tachibana and Shun Mizutani.
Through this observation, Shiyu realized Mito Uzumaki's hand in the arrangements. Through this division, they formed what was essentially a Senju Bloodline Alliance, reuniting everyone together again. Simultaneously, they provided sponsorship to many promising ninja talents, giving the nearly fallen Senju Clan a much-needed boost.
What Shiyu Uchiha didn't know was that in the original canon, the Uzumaki clan had nearly been wiped out. Konoha only had one early-arriving member from the Uzumaki clan—Kushina Uzumaki—and she had been selected to become a jinchuriki, making her completely unfit to serve as a foundation for rebuilding the clan. Therefore, when Mito Uzumaki learned of the destruction of the Land of Whirlpool several days later, she fell gravely ill from the immense shock and passed away more than a year later.
Additionally, Tsunade had become effectively incapacitated by personal trauma at this time. As a result, Hiruzen Sarutobi took full control of handling the Senju remnants, leaving them absolutely no chance to survive. Moreover, Danzo Shimura secretly took many surviving children of the Senju clan and handed them over to Orochimaru for Wood Release experiments—in other words, test subjects like Yamato—something that neither Mito Uzumaki, Tsunade, nor anyone else ever discovered.
As things stood now, Mito still held onto the spiritual motivation of rebuilding the Uzumaki clan, so her mental state hadn't fully collapsed. Given her vitality, she could likely hold on for a few more years.
Therefore, with close attention placed on any matters relating to the Senju branch families, combined with the fact that the Senju weren't entirely out of contact anymore, Danzo Shimura dared not provoke trouble this time.
However, Shiyu Uchiha had already set his sights on that boy who looked a lot like Yamato. He specially marked the boy, thinking along the lines of "swing the bat even if there's no ball," ready to bring him into his ranks the moment an opportunity arose.
