Chapter 20
"And there's another problem: Danzou Shimura."
Itachi looked surprised by what I'd just said.
"How do you know about him?" he asked.
'Hehe... how do I explain this now?'
"I know how to spy too, okay? Danzou is a problem — he prefers to resolve conflict in a different way. A worse way…" I said, looking at each of my friends.
"So if you put the Uchiha leaders under a genjutsu…" I continued, this time looking at Shisui, "...even if the coup conspiracy continues, Danzou will still try to push his plan forward and eliminate all the Uchiha once and for all."
"Eliminate them?!" Renji exclaimed, startled and fearful of what those words might mean.
Shisui seemed to hear those words with regret, then turned to Itachi.
"Is he telling the truth?"
Itachi nodded silently, clearly weighed down by how heavy the topic was to speak about with confidence or pride.
"So, what do you suggest, Riku?" Shisui asked.
"We need to expose Danzou — prove that he plans to destroy the Uchiha clan — and inform the Hokage. And we need to convince your father, Itachi, that everything is happening because of a conspiracy behind the scenes. If we do that, maybe we can calm everyone down and stop the conflict before it begins." I tried to sound confident, channeling Hashirama's advice into my words.
Silence lingered for a few seconds while everyone processed my words.
Renji was the first to react, smiling despite his nerves.
"You're really crazy."
"That's exactly how we'll end this insanity!" I said, smiling back.
Soon, Itachi and Shisui also seemed to accept the idea.
"The first step is to talk to the Hokage, tell him everything, and hope he's willing to help," Shisui said.
"Then we infiltrate, expose Danzou, and put an end to this problem once and for all," Itachi added.
Renji and I agreed with the plan. With everything settled, we began our preparations.
That night, we carefully planned every detail to avoid mistakes. Our goal was to act quickly, and by the next night, put an end to the conflict between the Uchihas and the village.
I returned home with a storm of thoughts in my mind, reflecting on all the possible outcomes.
'From here on, everything will be new — even for me. I need to be ready. I can't let anything go wrong.'
The next morning, I went to the Hokage's office for the first time. The building looked massive up close. Even though I'd seen it many times before, actually entering it was different — the place radiated a powerful aura. It was overwhelming.
"Whoa," I murmured.
Shisui glanced at me — more serious than usual, visibly tense about what lay ahead.
"I managed to get a last-minute meeting with him, but we won't have much time. I need you to tell him everything you know. That's the only way he'll agree to help us."
[You entered the Hokage Building]
When we reached the Hokage's office, two ANBU guarded the door. After Shisui introduced himself, they let us in. The room was large, cluttered with papers. The air smelled like smoke from the pipe in Hiruzen's mouth.
His age was immediately noticeable — each wrinkle and his weary expression told of a long life.)
"Hello, Shisui," Hiruzen greeted, then turned his attention to me. "And you must be Riku. I've heard quite a bit about you these past few days."
I instinctively remembered my sensei, Tetsu, telling me that I needed to report the Mokuton to the Hokage.
"That's right. It's an honor to finally meet you," I said, doing my best to sound polite.
The Hokage smiled and continued, "So, how can I help you?"
Shisui then took the lead and spoke succinctly.
"We're here to talk about the conflict with the Uchiha, sir."
"I see..." Hiruzen said.
"Riku already knows everything, and he's been a great help in trying to resolve this conflict. He also has information that could help us end it once and for all."
Hiruzen looked at me, took a drag from his pipe, and exhaled the smoke before speaking.
"And what do you know, Riku?"
I swallowed hard. I couldn't falter now, or it would all sound like a conspiracy theory.
"Danzou and the other elders want to wipe out the Uchiha clan. They see the clan as a threat to the village's stability and have been waiting for the right moment to act. He wants to exterminate the Uchiha clan, Lord Hokage," I said, speaking with confidence.
"Danzou wouldn't go that far, young Senju," the Third Hokage said.
"You know he would. And you know the way the Uchiha are being treated can't be ignored.
He wants the conflict to start — he wants the perfect justification to end what he calls a threat," I said.
Hiruzen seemed to ponder for a few seconds, absorbing the words and understanding that his old friend could indeed be capable of such a thing.
"Can you prove what you're saying?" he asked, staring directly at me.
"That's why we're here, sir," Shisui stepped forward.
"We need to confront Danzou directly, so he reveals his schemes. Your help would be crucial.
The more time passes, the closer we are to the conflict erupting — and then it'll be too late to change anything."
"How do you plan to do that? If what you're saying is true, Danzou wouldn't expose himself so easily," Hiruzen said.
"He controls a group of ANBU who report directly to him. We need to infiltrate them and corner Danzou."
The Hokage sighed deeply.
"I'll place my trust in you, Shisui. I know you want what's best for the village, just as I do."
"But a ninja I trust will accompany you. If what you say is true, he'll report back to me personally, and I'll take the necessary steps."
"If I may ask, who would that ninja be?" I asked.
"Kakashi Hatake," he said, and moments later, a white-haired ninja appeared at his side using the Shunshin no Jutsu.
Kakashi was wearing ANBU gear, and his Sharingan glowed in his left eye. He stared at me with curiosity.
