Chapter 71: Chapter 71
"Karin, you have a special physique. While your abilities resemble those of a support-type ninja, that doesn't mean a support fighter is weak. Combat medics can be just as formidable."
Zixu explained, noting that Karin's body was practically a natural source of vitality. If someone was severely injured or depleted of chakra, a single bite would restore them. However, in essence, she was transferring her own chakra and life force to the one who bit her.
Occasionally, this wasn't an issue, but over time, it would undoubtedly take a toll on Karin's health—even threatening her life. Though she had recovered somewhat, when she was under the control of the Kusagakure shinobi, she had been reduced to skin and bones.
Karin wasn't sure if she fully understood Zixu's words, but the moment she heard the term "medic," she glanced at Aburame Hatsuizumi guiltily before lowering her head in disappointment.
"Karin, our Uzumaki Clan's Adamantine Sealing Chains (Kongō Fūsa) should be within your abilities, right?" Zixu asked as a dozen golden chain-like projections extended from his back, writhing like a nest of serpents.
The small black snake, which had been influenced by the Silence clone and was developing some mischief, slithered over, coiling itself on Zixu's shoulder while playfully flicking its tail at the golden chains.
"Ah… no, I can't use them," Karin admitted, scratching her head sheepishly. "But I do have the Kagura Mind's Eye (Kagura Shingan), and I've learned the basics of the Mystical Palm Technique (Shōsen Jutsu)."
It wasn't her fault. Kusagakure had only trained her as a pure support ninja. They had no intention of teaching her any offensive techniques—it would've been dangerous for them.
"That's fine. You don't need to rush into sealing techniques," Zixu reassured her. "The Uzumaki clan possesses vast chakra reserves—that's already a strength on its own. I'll create a custom technique for you, something suited to your abilities. As long as you have enough chakra, you'll be able to use it."
Zixu pulled Karin aside. Hyuga Chinano, who had been practicing the Water Dragon Bullet (Suiton: Suiryūdan no Jutsu), looked over curiously. Since when had Zixu started creating his own jutsu?
Karin obediently listened as Zixu explained the technique.
"Oh? It's that simple? I think I get it. Let me try!" Karin exclaimed in surprise. The technique required only a few hand seals.
Aburame Hatsuizumi, who was coiled with the little black snake, couldn't sit still anymore. She wanted to see if this new technique was as incredible as it sounded.
Karin's slender fingers moved rapidly through a series of seals before stopping. Then, she curled her ring and pinky fingers, forming a pistol-like gesture with her hands. She aimed at an open space.
"Gatling Ripple Rush (Gatoringu Nami Geki)!"
A storm of densely packed chakra projectiles erupted from her fingertips. These tiny chakra-infused raindrops carried Karin's chakra nature. While their speed wasn't overwhelming, dodging them in time still required some effort.
Her accuracy wasn't great, but Gatling techniques thrived on sheer volume and suppressive fire. It was already a success.
Chakra bullets could be modified based on the user's elemental affinity. They could be used for healing allies or suppressing enemies, making it a versatile technique—one that only someone with immense chakra reserves could wield.
Though the chakra consumption was inefficient, the jutsu was perfect for Karin. She preferred straightforward, overwhelming techniques.
"Not bad. Next, try integrating elemental chakra to create solid projectiles, like water bullets or earth bullets," Zixu advised.
After instructing Karin, Zixu finally turned to Aburame Hatsuizumi. Her training was a bit different since her fighting style revolved around insects. Other ninjutsu would only supplement her existing techniques, so Zixu decided to tailor his teachings accordingly.
"Alright, my turn! What are you going to teach me?" Aburame Hatsuizumi leaned forward eagerly, almost pressing her face against Zixu's chest.
Zixu calmly placed a hand on her forehead and pushed her back before speaking.
"I won't bother teaching you basic ninjutsu; they won't be of much use to you. Your strength lies in your insects, so your training should focus on refining and enhancing them," he explained.
Aburame Hatsuizumi's techniques were already unique among the Aburame clan. The typical clan members maintained a symbiotic relationship with their insects—offering their own chakra in exchange for the insects' service.
But she had taken a different path. Through selective breeding and chakra refinement, she had altered her insects and fused them directly with her chakra. This meant her chakra contained different elemental properties, though she herself did not possess these affinities inherently. She needed the insects as intermediaries to manifest them.
By refining her insects into chakra, she no longer had to physically host them in her body. They existed within her chakra network, making them more convenient to carry. However, this also meant she couldn't lend them to others like traditional Aburame shinobi could.
"You mentioned an idea. What idea?" Aburame Hatsuizumi tilted her head, her large eyes blinking with curiosity.
"As a craftsman—" Zixu caught himself mid-sentence before correcting it. "As a member of the Hundred Teachings Academy with boundless wisdom, I'll teach you how to refine insects properly."
"Insect refinement is a science. There are multiple techniques—fire refinement, water refinement, earth refinement, combination refinement, ascension refinement, and tiered refinement. Each requires specific skills. Your chakra leans toward earth, but the choice depends on your own personality."
"Are there any insects you're currently refining? Describe their properties and what you're trying to achieve."
Although Aburame Hatsuizumi was surprised by Zixu's vast knowledge of insects—perhaps even greater than her own—she answered honestly. and the Water Drum Bug to create a defensive insect. But I keep failing at the final fusion step. Something always goes wrong."
"What refinement method are you using?"
"Water refinement. Since both species are naturally water-attributed, it seemed logical."
"You might want to try refining the White Jade Bug with fire first. Then, after softening it, refine it alongside the water-refined Water Drum Bug. That will help control the temperature better..."
"You can also develop an offensive jutsu using Earth Release—like forming a temporary sand nest for the insects. These insects don't need long lifespans, so you can focus on extreme specialization for maximum efficiency."
"You don't have to limit yourself to attack-based jutsu. By selectively enhancing certain insect traits, you can prepare for various situations."
Though Zixu didn't teach Aburame Hatsuizumi a specific jutsu, he expanded her perspective. Now, she had more combinations and techniques to explore.
For the first time, she genuinely believed that Zixu had remarkable knowledge and teaching ability.
