Chapter 7: Chapter 7: First Mission – The Reality of Being a Genin
---
1. The Aftermath of the Bell Test
The morning after the Bell Test, Team 7 gathered at the Hokage's office.
Naruto was still grinning. "Heh, we passed! I told you guys we'd do it!"
Hinata smiled softly, glancing at Ren. "W-We worked well together…"
Ren smirked. "It was a good first step. But now, the real work begins."
Hiruzen Sarutobi, the Third Hokage, observed them with an amused expression. "So, Kakashi… how are your new students?"
Kakashi scratched his head lazily. "They're… unique."
Ren noted how Kakashi's visible eye flicked toward him for a brief moment. He's already analyzing me.
Hiruzen nodded. "Good. In that case, Team 7 will now begin their official duties as Genin."
Naruto's excitement grew. "Alright! What's our first mission?! Hunting rogue ninja? Protecting the village? Fighting bandits?"
The Hokage chuckled. "Not quite…"

2. The Harsh Reality of D-Rank Missions
"Catch the Lord's cat?"
Naruto stared in disbelief at the mission scroll.
Ren sighed. "This is the standard for low-ranked missions."
Hinata looked at the scroll. "Tora… the Fire Lord's wife's cat?"
Kakashi nodded. "Yep. Lost for the third time this month."
Naruto groaned. "This isn't ninja work! This is… pet-sitting!"
Ren smirked. "Welcome to reality, Naruto."
Over the next week, Team 7 found themselves doing—
Weeding gardens.
Painting fences.
Cleaning dog kennels.
Babysitting a screaming child.
Naruto was fuming. "I didn't become a ninja for this!"
Kakashi, meanwhile, was perfectly happy reading his book.
Ren, on the other hand, wasn't entirely dissatisfied. AFK System was giving him passive experience just by working.
> AFK System Update:
Stealth: +1 (From sneaking up on Tora.)
Endurance: +2 (From dealing with Naruto's complaints.)
Patience: +5 (From babysitting.)
Ren sighed. "At least I'm gaining something from this."

3. Naruto's Demand – A Higher Rank Mission
After a week of menial labor, Naruto snapped.
"Old man! Give us a REAL mission!" he shouted at the Hokage.
Kakashi sighed. "Naruto…"
Hiruzen, however, stroked his beard. "Hmm… Perhaps it is time for something more challenging."
He glanced at a mission scroll and nodded. "Very well. I will assign Team 7 a C-Rank mission."
Naruto pumped his fist. "Yes!"
Hinata looked slightly nervous, but Ren remained calm. Finally, something worthwhile.
Hiruzen continued. "Your mission is to escort a bridge builder to the Land of Waves."
The door opened, and an old man with a bottle of sake stumbled in.
"Huh? These brats are my bodyguards?"
Tazuna, the bridge builder, raised an eyebrow at them.
Naruto crossed his arms. "Hah! Don't underestimate us, old man!"
Ren, however, observed Tazuna carefully. There's something off about him.
Kakashi smiled. "Well then, Team 7… pack your things. We leave in the morning."
Ren's smirk widened. "Things are about to get interesting."
