Chapter 28: Robin’s Complicated Emotions, the Heart of the Strong
Three days after defeating Crocodile.
On this day, Link was performing his daily treatment on Cobra.
"My body feels lighter, and that feeling of heart palpitations is gone."
Feeling the changes in his body, Cobra couldn't help but exclaim in amazement. He then looked at Link before him and smiled, "Thank you so much, Link."
"You're welcome."
Link smiled back. "Allowing Vivi to go to sea with me, and allowing me to treat you, is the greatest trust you could place in me."
"If it were anyone else, I wouldn't allow Vivi to go to sea with them. After all, she is my only daughter, and the Alabasta Kingdom has only one princess."
Cobra shook his head and said honestly, "But after hearing your plan, I feel it's a gamble worth taking. If it succeeds, I can entrust the country to Vivi with peace of mind."
"Our millions of citizens will also welcome the strongest Queen."
To this, Link smiled and guaranteed, "Don't worry. Even if the plan doesn't fully succeed, I will still make Vivi a powerful ability user. As long as I'm around, no one can harm Vivi."
"I believe you."
Cobra nodded, his expression serious. "I have done as you said and told the Five Elders that Crocodile 'escaped.' I believe that in a few more days, Crocodile's bounty poster and the news of him being stripped of his Warlord status will spread throughout the world."
"Also, the World Government's people are on their way."
Hearing this last sentence, Link also nodded. "In that case, I will leave the Alabasta Kingdom tomorrow."
From the conversation between Link and Cobra, it was clear that the two had discussed many topics over the past few days. Link had even revealed parts of his plan, earning Cobra's trust and permission.
As Link was about to leave, Cobra suddenly said with deep meaning, "Be careful of that woman who went to see the Poneglyph."
"Don't worry. I'm not wrong about people. I trust her very much."
Link smiled confidently. "She, like Vivi and my other two companions, are actually the same kind of person. She was just less fortunate than Vivi and has only just met me!"
After speaking, Link left the room.
Neither Link nor Cobra noticed an ear growing on the wall behind a certain cabinet.
Finding Carina and the other girls who were organizing Crocodile's treasure, Link told them the time of their departure.
While the three girls were packing the treasure into oversized backpacks, Robin, who had been reading by the window, suddenly approached Link and smiled, "Mr. Captain, can we talk alone for a moment?"
"Of course. Let's go to the balcony," Link nodded.
On the balcony, Robin leaned against the railing and asked curiously, "Mr. Captain, do you have that ancient book you picked up?"
Link didn't answer, instead asking, "Did you learn about my abilities from Carina?"
"Mhm."
Robin nodded and smiled. "That kind of ability... it's the ninjutsu of Wano Country, isn't it?"
"Impressive. You even know about such an obscure thing."
Link couldn't help but give a thumbs-up, then sneered, "But my ninjutsu is not the ninjutsu of Wano Country. The ninjutsu there is just what they call Devil Fruit abilities because they lack a scientific explanation and a rich understanding of them."
"My ninjutsu, on the other hand, comes from a special energy I was born with, which evolves into the elemental powers of wind, fire, water, earth, and lightning, as well as the Kekkei Genkai formed by their fusion."
"Those ninja fear seawater, but I have no fear of the great sea."
"I see."
Robin feigned a slight realization. On the surface, she didn't show the same shock as Carina and the other two girls did when they first learned of Link's abilities.
However, if Link had mastered Observation Haki, he would have discovered that Robin's emotions had been in a state of violent fluctuation ever since she walked into the room.
Clearly, the mature woman was only putting on a calm facade.
In fact, her mind had been in turmoil ever since she overheard his conversation with Cobra.
Robin had thought that Link invited her to join the crew only because he valued her ability to read ancient texts, and that deep down, he was as wary of her as Crocodile was.
Yet, even though he knew she had seen the Poneglyph, he hadn't asked what was written on it.
She knew that Cobra had warned him earlier that the Poneglyph guarded by the Nefeltari royal family for generations did not record the history of the Nefeltari clan, but what Crocodile wanted.
Could it be... he wasn't interested in the Ancient Weapons?
Or was he just acting?
That last sentence he said... was it from the heart, or did he already know she was eavesdropping?
Robin's feelings were very complicated right now, so she could only change the subject and continue to ask, "Is that ancient book related to your abilities?"
"Not really."
Link shook his head, lying without batting an eye. "That ancient book was found by my Wood Clone on a ghost ship. If I'm not mistaken, it should be the relic of some scholar."
"Because the Wood Clone's energy is limited, I couldn't bring the ancient book back here, so I could only read it and then destroy it on the spot."
After speaking, Link recited the lines he had prepared long ago: "There wasn't much content in that ancient book. It only introduced the origin of the Nefeltari clan."
"Vivi's ancestor, and also the first king of the Nefeltari royal family among the twenty kings, was named Nefeltari D. Lily."
"For some unknown reason, after establishing the World Government, Queen Lily did not stay in Mary Geoise to become a Celestial Dragon like the other nineteen kings, but returned to her homeland to continue the Nefeltari name."
"A part of the history mentions that Queen Lily had a good relationship with a fellow named Joy Boy. That's about all there was."
Finally, Link shrugged.
To avoid scaring Robin, Link did not mention the existence of Imu.
"Since the surname is Nefeltari D., why was the letter 'D' hidden from the surname after eight hundred years? And what does this 'D' mean?"
Robin did not suspect Link was lying, muttering to herself with a slight frown.
Seeing this, Link smiled. "If you're curious, let's go and explore it together! Actually, I'm also very curious about the blank hundred years of history that was erased. That's the reason I recruited you!"
Link wasn't lying; he was indeed interested in the erased history.
When he transmigrated, One Piece was just entering its final saga, and Vegapunk had prophesied that the world would sink into the sea.
Therefore, Link was curious as to why the world would sink into the sea.
Just how advanced was the technology of the ancient kingdom?
What exactly happened during that blank hundred years?
Robin was the key to unlocking these mysteries.
Looking at Link's sincere face, and recalling his last words to Cobra, a long-lost warmth suddenly surged in Robin's heart.
"Mhm."
She nodded, a smile that was no longer a mask finally appearing on her face. "Mr. Captain, please take care of me from now on."
"Just call me Link."
Link smiled and extended his hand. "Please take care of me, Robin."
Robin shook Link's hand, staring into his large, bright eyes, and asked with a smile, "Link, aren't you curious about what's recorded on the Nefeltari royal family's Poneglyph?"
"The location of an Ancient Weapon, right?"
Faced with Robin's 'test,' Link said with disdain, "Only the weak rely on external objects. I only believe in my own strength!"
"..."
Robin, who had thought Link would feign curiosity, finally showed a look of shock on her face.
So he knew!
The reason he didn't ask wasn't to act, but because he genuinely wasn't interested!
At this moment, Robin saw in Link a quality that Crocodile lacked, and she also understood why Crocodile, despite having the home-field advantage, still lost to this newcomer.
That was... the heart of a true powerhouse!
Carina and the other two girls, who were secretly eavesdropping, also looked at their captain with sparkling eyes.
At this moment, Link... was so handsome
