One Piece: Lazy Admiral with a Multiverse System

Chapter 18: Chapter 18: Whitebeard Jr. Provokes the Marines

"Captain Hina! Another pirate ship has appeared!"

The Marine who ran up sounded flustered.

They already had one pirate ship in front of them that hadn't left.

And now, here came another.

If this were the first half of the Grand Line, they might not have been so nervous.

But this was the New World.

And in the New World, pirates with bounties in the hundreds of millions or higher were everywhere.

Back on the Grand Line, the biggest threats they'd seen were pirates with maybe a ten-million bounty.

"Another pirate ship?"

Hina frowned instinctively, glancing at Doflamingo.

Who else but him could have tipped off others to their location?

It had to be one of his people.

"Don't look at me!"

Doflamingo raised his hands, feigning innocence.

"Oh? Not one of yours?"

Kizaru looked at him with mild surprise.

He half expected Doflamingo was trying to double-cross them,

planning to ambush them right here.

"Admiral Kizaru, you're joking."

"I wouldn't dare go against the Navy."

Cold sweat trickled down Doflamingo's forehead as he spoke.

Inside, he was cursing whoever this idiot was that showed up now of all times.

Why couldn't they wait until he was gone?

Then again, if they'd shown up after he left, it'd still be blamed on him!

Doflamingo was fuming.

Clearly someone was trying to set him up.

"Trouble just keeps coming today,"

Noah muttered as he pushed up his eye mask.

"Been so long since I went to sea, and now this mess."

Was the Navy really this weak now?

Step into the New World, and pirates came out to give them a not-so-friendly welcome.

"Yeah… I heard the New World was supposed to be quiet,"

Kizaru added, scratching his chin.

He knew the first half of the Grand Line was always chaotic.

But the New World, ruled by the Four Emperors,

was supposed to be more stable—

even if they fought among themselves,

they didn't usually target Marine Admirals.

Hina glanced at the two of them, speechless.

Quiet?

These two never even read their intelligence briefings.

How would they know what the New World was really like?

They were just repeating what they'd heard secondhand.

"Vice Admiral Noah, Admiral Kizaru, shouldn't we go check it out?"

Hina said at last, resigned.

What else could they do at this point?

"Guess we should."

Noah sat up, stretching.

"Ah, Noah's finally been sitting too long.

Time to stretch those legs?"

Kizaru followed, getting up as well.

Both of them looked bored out of their minds.

Doflamingo's gaze toward Noah shifted.

What was with this guy?

From their conversation, it felt like Kizaru treated Noah as an equal.

Almost like Noah was the one calling the shots.

"Admiral! Vice Admiral!"

Zango ran over, pale and nervous.

Since they'd been heading into the New World,

they'd been studying up on the major pirate threats here.

So Zango recognized this one.

"It's Edward Weevil!"

he reported, voice shaking.

Known as Whitebeard Jr.,

he not only looked just like Whitebeard,

but fought with a strength reminiscent of the old man himself.

"Whitebeard's son, huh?"

Noah mused aloud.

"His son?

You mean, real son?"

Kizaru asked, surprised.

He knew of Edward Weevil,

a spitting image of Whitebeard,

the one who'd crippled his teacher Zephyr,

costing him an arm and killing every Marine cadet on his ship.

That story wasn't exactly a secret.

And now here Weevil was, right in front of them.

"No idea.

If you want to know, ask Whitebeard himself."

Noah scratched his head.

He hadn't been there to deliver the baby, after all.

You'd need a paternity test for that.

"This is the one who hurt Zephyr-sensei, right?"

Hina said, voice trembling with fury.

Her fists clenched, eyes red with rage.

She knew Weevil's name all too well.

Zephyr had been like a father to many Marines—

Hina included.

"That's him,"

Noah confirmed, watching the pirate ship approach.

What an idiot.

Charging in, even knowing a Marine Admiral was on board.

Maybe his victory over an old Admiral had gone to his head.

Or maybe it was Miss Bakkin's ego that had grown—

thinking her "son" could take on anyone.

But Zephyr was from a different era.

Today's Navy was full of monsters.

"Prepare for battle!

The moment they're in range, open fire!"

Hina barked.

This was her ship, not Noah's.

Command was hers.

"Yes, ma'am!"

The Marines scrambled to their stations,

loading the cannons.

"Aren't you going to stop her?"

Kizaru asked Noah quietly.

It was clear Hina was letting her emotions get the better of her.

She was ready for a head-on fight with Weevil.

"Why should I?

If they can sink him, that saves us the trouble.

That guy isn't easy to deal with anyway,"

Noah replied, rubbing his head.

If it were any ordinary pirate,

he wouldn't even give them a second look.

"That troublesome guy…

he had to show up here of all places."

Noah muttered, watching as the pirate ship dodged cannon fire.

Letting Weevil go wouldn't end well.

The Navy still bore the scar of losing an Admiral to him.

Every Vice Admiral who followed Zephyr's path would remember that.

Bringing him in would earn their respect—

make Noah's life in the Navy a breeze.

Even if they didn't catch him today,

what mattered was they fought him.

Letting him go without trying wasn't an option.
