Chapter 114: Beat Down, Beat Down

Jon watched Vitas howl continuously, a curious look in his eyes. He was genuinely surprised—this guy was more resilient than he had expected.

The palm strike and kick he had just delivered were not held back. While he hadn't used his full strength, the force was still immense. Yet, after taking two heavy hits, Vitas acted as if nothing had happened and charged at him again.

"Zoan-type Devil Fruit users really are tough. Let's see how long you can last."

Each of the three main Devil Fruit types had their own strengths. Zoan users were the most durable—especially after transforming, their physical endurance and toughness increased significantly. If they managed to awaken their abilities, their resilience would become monstrous.

The jailers in Impel Down were a perfect example. They were all Zoan users, taking brutal beatings yet recovering almost instantly. That was the terrifying nature of Zoan-type Devil Fruits.

Though Vitas might not have reached that level, he had clearly developed his fruit to a considerable degree.

Vitas let out a fierce howl to bolster his confidence before charging at Jon again. But this time, he was smarter—he didn't attack directly but used his speed to circle around the massive wooden giant, looking for an opening.

"Vitas actually has some skill. Using his speed advantage against Jon's enormous form is a solid strategy. Moving and turning must be much slower in that form. If he can attack fast enough, he might actually stand a chance."

Peberton praised Vitas' approach. From what he had seen earlier, trying to fight Jon head-on was just asking to be smacked into the ground.

"A chance? Pfft."

Borsalino scoffed, curling his lips. "Vitas is being naive. He thinks speed gives him the upper hand? He's completely forgotten that Jon's greatest strength isn't his Devil Fruit—it's his speed. He's just embarrassing himself at this point."

"What do you mean?" Peberton asked, confused.

Sakazuki and Dragon exchanged knowing looks, already understanding Borsalino's point.

Vitas dashed around Jon, moving for quite a while before finally spotting an opening. He lunged at Jon's leg, preparing to strike.

It was a guaranteed hit—except, just as his armed Haki-coated claws were about to connect, Jon's leg shifted slightly, dodging the attack by the smallest margin.

At that exact moment, a massive wooden arm came crashing down from above. Vitas panicked and barely managed to escape, once again relying on his speed.

But he refused to give up, repeating the same hit-and-run tactics. He couldn't believe Jon could dodge every single one of his attacks.

And yet—Jon did exactly that. Every time, he would shift just enough to evade. Worse still, Jon managed to land counterattacks that sent Vitas flying.

Vitas was durable, but after enduring several of Jon's attacks, his body started to give out. His blood boiled, his breathing grew ragged—his endurance had limits.

"Ugh, this fight is pointless. Boring."

Borsalino yawned and stretched, looking completely uninterested.

Sakazuki and Dragon, as well as the more experienced officers watching, had the same thought.

This fight was already over. Vitas was completely outmatched.

Zoan users relied on their physical toughness, but Jon's wooden giant form was stronger. Any attempt to face him head-on was suicidal.

Vitas also had speed on his side, but Jon's Observation Haki was at the highest level—allowing him to predict every move. Vitas' speed meant nothing when Jon could sense every attack before it happened.

So, in reality, Vitas had already lost the moment Jon transformed.

"He just doesn't have the raw power to break through Jon's wooden giant form."

Some of the high-ranking officers watching sighed.

Jon's technique was impressive, but it had weaknesses. His massive size meant he moved slowly, and his attacks weren't the fastest either. If he didn't have his superior Observation Haki, he could be easily overwhelmed by faster, more skilled fighters.

But Jon did have Observation Haki—one so powerful that Vitas' movements were completely useless.

If Vitas had been stronger in physical combat, he might have had a chance. Someone with overwhelming strength could go toe-to-toe with Jon and fight on even ground.

But Vitas wasn't that person.

Up on a nearby building, Garp, Sengoku, and Tsuru were observing the fight.

Garp whistled. "This kid Jon is impressive. His technique reminds me of your golden Buddha form, Sengoku."

Sengoku nodded, amazed. "He's transforming his body into wood and enlarging it. How is he even doing that?"

His own transformation was a product of his Devil Fruit ability. But Jon was using some other method—one that was clearly the result of extensive training and mastery.

"Life Return, combined with his ability." Garp explained. "Exactly how it works, only he knows."

Jon had trained under Garp and learned Life Return, a technique allowing control over one's body at a cellular level. Not long after, he developed his Wooden Giant ability.

Back then, he could only control external wood to form a giant. But now, he had evolved it—merging himself with the wood, becoming the giant itself.

Even Garp wasn't entirely sure how Jon pulled it off.

Tsuru, however, smiled knowingly. She understood Jon's abilities better than anyone. She had been involved in his training, giving him advice and helping refine the technique.

Even Garp and Sengoku didn't know the full extent of it.

Back at the battlefield, Jon had clearly grown bored.

He smacked Vitas around effortlessly—each hit was like a mountain crashing down on him.

BOOM!

Jon stomped down hard, crushing Vitas into the ground.

When he lifted his foot, Vitas was a bloody mess, unconscious, his limbs twisted unnaturally.

Jon had won. A complete victory.

From their vantage point, Garp, Sengoku, and Tsuru turned to leave.

"This kid's insane. Just with that one move, most Vice Admirals wouldn't be able to handle him." Garp said, shaking his head.

"Dragon grew up under my training, but even he might not be able to beat Jon now."

Sengoku frowned. "It's not that simple. You saw how unstable his energy was when he reverted—this technique drains a ton of stamina. He probably can't maintain it for long."

That was true—Jon couldn't stay in Wooden Giant form forever. Even if he pushed himself, 30 minutes was the absolute limit.

But Sengoku didn't know that Jon's endurance wasn't as simple as it seemed.

If Jon was in an environment rich with sunlight and plants, his energy recovery would be beyond normal human limits.

"Another problem—if he fights at sea, his massive form might be impossible to use."

Tsuru shot Sengoku a glare. "Why are you nitpicking so much? Jon getting stronger is a good thing for the Navy. Why are you just finding problems?"

Sengoku groaned. "I'm just analyzing the situation! Of course, I want him to be stronger, but we can't ignore the weaknesses!"

Tsuru scoffed. "Whatever. I'm leaving."

As she walked off, Sengoku sighed in frustration. "What the hell is up with her lately? It's like she's personally invested in that kid."

Garp smirked. "You're smart. Figure it out yourself. I'm going to buy some snacks."

Left alone, Sengoku sighed again. "I should just get back to my paperwork."
