Chapter 123: The Island of Plants

"This is a little strange…"

Jon ventured alone into the archipelago, but instead of rushing to land, he first used Observation Haki to scan the area.

To his surprise, he sensed a massive number of life forms, but what shocked him the most was that the islands themselves seemed to emit a presence.

Not the lifeless aura of ordinary land, but rather the living energy of plants.

"Are the islands… plants?"

Jon was momentarily stunned.

He knew that the island Usopp had landed on was full of plants, but he had never fully understood what the islands were made of.

But now, it was clear—this entire archipelago was not land at all, but gigantic plants.

The scale of these islands was enormous.

If they were truly plants, what kind of species could grow to such a size?

Were they similar to the Sabaody Archipelago?

The thought of an entire archipelago being made of plants was shocking.

Yet after the initial shock, excitement followed—because if he could recreate such massive plants, the power they could unleash would be immense.

But Jon also understood—if his theory was correct, controlling these plants would not be easy.

Just like the Sabaody Archipelago, which he had once visited and tried to manipulate, he had failed.

No—not exactly failed.

Rather, his abilities at the time had simply not been strong enough to control something of that magnitude.

Not long after stepping onto one of the islands, a giant creature charged toward him.

It was several times larger than an elephant, with six legs that made it resemble a giant insect, though its size was monstrous.

Jon was used to strange creatures by now.

He had long realized that no matter how bizarre the creatures in this world were, there would always be something even weirder just around the corner.

"This place is my domain."

Jon smiled.

Here, he didn't even need to create plants—they were already everywhere.

While he couldn't control the entire island, controlling the plants on it was no problem at all.

Before the giant beast could even reach him, a mass of vines and branches had already ensnared it.

Within seconds, the massive creature collapsed, lifeless.

"This place is absolutely perfect."

Even with minimal effort, he had manipulated the surrounding trees and grass, stretching them tens of meters beyond their natural limits.

The once knee-high weeds had grown to over ten meters, and the trees expanded uncontrollably.

If he used his full power, just how much could he push it?

Even thinking about it gave him chills.

On this island, his strength was at least three times greater than usual.

The abundance of plant life meant he could fight at full power for days on end.

Here, few would be able to challenge him.

After a moment of awe, Jon began exploring the island.

As he ventured deeper, he noticed something strange—

While the outer regions of the island were filled with strong, dangerous animals, the further in he traveled, the weaker the creatures became.

Instead, the number of plants increased drastically.

Everywhere he looked, the land was completely covered in dense vegetation—a phenomenon he hadn't encountered on the previous two islands.

The other two islands he had explored had plenty of plants, but they also had open spaces.

But here, the first island of this archipelago was already densely overgrown.

The rest were likely the same.

And more importantly—

These plants were growing on islands that were already plants.

A world full of wonders.

"From today onward, I'm going to explore every single island here."

Jon's excitement grew.

He knew that fully exploring these islands would bring far greater rewards than he could imagine.

Before heading further, he informed his crew to explore freely and come pick him up later.

Then, without hesitation, he dove headfirst into the archipelago, beginning his journey of discovery.

One Month Later

Jon had spent an entire month exploring the islands.

When he finally returned to the ship, the captain and crew immediately noticed something different about him.

But what exactly had changed, they couldn't say.

Only Jon himself knew.

This one-month journey had granted him unimaginable gains, and his strength had skyrocketed.

Above all, he had discovered and acquired a tremendous variety of useful plants.

By now, he was absolutely certain—

This archipelago was indeed the same place that Usopp had landed on in the anime.

"How long until we reach our final destination?"

Jon asked the captain.

It had been fifty days since he left Marine Headquarters, meaning his two-month leave was almost over.

"Sir Jon, based on our calculations, if nothing goes wrong, we should arrive in four days."

"Four days? That's enough."

Jon nodded.

He had ten days left before his leave ended—not enough time to travel to the South Blue and back, but enough to reach the last plant island on his list.

Even though he had already gained a lot, he still wanted to see if the final island had any rare, useful plants.

"Set sail. Once we reach that island, we return to headquarters."

"Yes, Sir Jon!"

The ship departed swiftly.

Although they encountered no trouble, their journey took an extra day.

Jon had expected this last island to be a simple exploration.

However, to his surprise, while it wasn't as overgrown as the previous archipelago, it still had far more plant life than the first two islands he had visited.

More importantly—

Jon discovered several plant species that were extremely useful to him.

One of them was so astonishing that he could hardly believe it existed in this world.

Because of this, Jon stayed for five days, causing him to overstay his leave.

Luckily, he was part of the Marine Headquarters Staff Department, directly under Vice Admiral Tsuru.

If he belonged to any other division, he would have been severely reprimanded.

On His Way Back to Marineford

As Jon was returning to Marineford, he suddenly received a call from Vice Admiral Tsuru.

Before he had left, she had given him a Den Den Mushi for emergency contact.

She hadn't used it once in two months, yet now, four days after his leave expired, it suddenly rang.

Riiing…

"Hello, Vice Admiral."

"Jon? Where are you right now?"

"I'm on my way back. I should arrive in Marineford the day after tomorrow."

"Good. Return as fast as possible—a major incident has occurred."

"Understood, Vice Admiral."

"…"
