Chapter 125: Sakazuki’s Fury
"Jon, you're back too?"
As soon as his ship docked, Jon stepped onto the port, ready to head straight for the Staff Department.
But before he could go far, a voice called out to him.
Turning his head, he saw none other than Sakazuki.
"Sakazuki, you just got back too?"
Sakazuki nodded. "Yeah. With everything that's happened, of course, I had to return."
He had originally been leading a fleet to hunt pirates, but the moment he received the news, he rushed back at full speed.
Jon frowned. "I've been handling some personal matters lately. Vice Admiral Tsuru called me back urgently, but I still don't know exactly what happened."
Sakazuki looked surprised.
He had assumed Jon already knew—after all, the news about Roger becoming Pirate King had been circulating for days.
"It's the Roger Pirates. They've conquered the Grand Line. And that bastard Roger… people are actually calling him 'Pirate King.'"
At the mention of this title, Sakazuki's expression twisted with rage.
For someone who despised pirates to his core, the existence of a Pirate King was an unacceptable insult—a direct challenge to his sense of justice.
Jon's eyes flashed with understanding.
"So, my guess was right."
He wasn't shocked.
Ever since the Battle of Edd War, he had known this day was inevitable.
And more importantly—
Roger's time was running out.
"Sakazuki, don't worry. Roger won't be around much longer."
Sakazuki's tone was grim. "Of course not. We will never allow a Pirate King to exist. That's why the Fleet Admiral has recalled us—he's planning our next move against the Roger Pirates. When the time comes, I'll be the first to charge in."
Even though the Roger Pirates were feared across the seas, Sakazuki was completely unfazed.
If Roger himself stood right in front of him, Sakazuki would probably punch him with magma without hesitation—no discussion needed.
"I'm heading to the Staff Department. Where are you going?" Jon asked.
"I need to report to Admiral Sengoku."
"Alright. We'll catch up later."
With that, Jon and Sakazuki parted ways, heading toward their respective destinations.
Meeting with Tsuru
Back at Marine Headquarters, Jon headed straight for Tsuru's office.
Knock, knock.
"Come in."
Jon stepped inside, saluted sharply, and said, "Vice Admiral, I've returned."
Tsuru glanced up. "You made good time. Have a seat."
As Jon sat down, she narrowed her eyes slightly.
"I gave you two months of leave, and you still didn't make it back on time. Where did you go—hunting for those plant islands?"
Jon felt a little awkward.
If Tsuru hadn't summoned him, he might have taken his time returning.
"Yeah, things were a bit unexpected. Those islands had a lot of unique plants, so I ended up staying longer than planned. I didn't even have time to visit the South Blue."
Tsuru raised an eyebrow. "I see. If it kept you occupied that long, you must have found something useful."
She knew Jon's abilities well.
For him to be delayed like this, he must have discovered some valuable plants.
But she didn't press further.
"Since you're back, I assume you already know why I recalled you?"
Jon asked, "Because of Roger?"
"Exactly."
At the mention of Roger, Tsuru's expression darkened.
Roger's rise as Pirate King had humiliated the Marines.
As a Vice Admiral, she naturally couldn't stand him.
"He conquered the Grand Line, reached the final island, and is now being called Pirate King. This is something we absolutely cannot allow."
"Fleet Admiral Kong has ordered an all-out hunt for the Roger Pirates. We must track them down as soon as possible. Kill those who resist, capture the rest. Both Sengoku and Garp will be personally involved."
"I called you back because I want you to represent the Staff Department in this operation. After all, you're one of the few Marines who has interacted with the Roger Pirates before."
Jon didn't hesitate. "Understood."
He already knew that Roger's crew would disband soon—but obviously, he couldn't say that.
"Also…"
Tsuru's sharp gaze landed on Jon.
"You spent time aboard Roger's ship. This conquest of his wasn't planned overnight. Did you hear anything about the final island while you were with them?"
Jon's heart clenched for a moment.
Roger's ability to find Laugh Tale so quickly was partially because of him.
But he could never admit that.
Otherwise, people might suspect him of being connected to Roger.
"I honestly don't know."
Tsuru didn't question him further.
She had no reason to doubt him.
After all, so many people had searched for Laugh Tale in vain—there was no way a young Marine from the South Blue would just happen to know its secrets.
And Roger was smart. He wouldn't have let Jon overhear anything important.
The True Impact of the Pirate King
Jon was curious.
"Vice Admiral, is Roger's title as Pirate King really that big of a deal?"
As someone who had watched One Piece, Jon had a different perspective.
Roger's title was significant, but at this point in history, its impact was mostly within the pirate world.
The real turning point would come after Roger's execution—when he revealed the existence of One Piece to the world.
That was what truly started the Great Pirate Era.
Roger's death would immortalize his legend.
Tsuru's expression turned grim.
"Pirate King. A name that shakes the world. If Roger were as ambitious as Shiki, he could cause catastrophic damage."
"The consequences are worse than you think."
She continued, "From now on, the Marine's full attention will be on the Roger Pirates. Jon, you've stayed in the background for three years. In these chaotic times, this might be your chance."
Jon immediately understood her meaning.
With Roger's ascension, pirate activity would explode.
Tracking down the Roger Pirates wouldn't be easy.
But other pirates would also rise up, creating opportunities for ambitious Marines to make a name for themselves.
"I understand."
Jon nodded.
This would be a prolonged battle.
Hunting Roger directly wouldn't be easy.
But if he could take down other pirates during the chaos, he could still rise in the ranks.
"This will be a long war. Starting today, you won't have any more vacations for a long time."
Jon grinned. "That's fine. I've had plenty of rest—time to get to work."
Of course, he knew the truth.
Roger wouldn't last much longer.
Soon, he would disband his crew, settle down, have a kid—then turn himself in.
Once Roger surrendered, there would be a break in the action.
Plenty of time to relax later.
"I've already spoken to Garp. Report to him directly—he'll handle your assignment. But be careful. Garp will be leading the main assault against Roger."
Since Sengoku and Garp were both leading the search, Garp would likely be on the front lines.
And as part of Garp's team, Jon would be in the thick of the fight.
"Understood, Vice Admiral."
To Jon, this was perfect.
He was familiar with Garp—working under him would be comfortable.
If he had been assigned to Sengoku, it would have been a nightmare.
