Chapter 130: A New Devil Fruit
Charlotte Oven, already powerless to resist, fell into deeper despair upon seeing Borsalino appear beside Jon.
He wasn't even a match for this Marine who could control plants—let alone with Borsalino here as well. Even if his brother, Charlotte Katakuri, showed up, they still wouldn't stand a chance.
Realizing he was doomed, Oven suppressed his fear and instead glared fiercely at Jon and Borsalino.
"Jon, what's with this move of yours? That guy looks weaker by the second," Borsalino asked curiously, eyeing the massive wooden dragon wrapped around Oven.
"It's because my Wood Dragon is absorbing his strength," Jon replied.
Since Borsalino was someone he trusted, Jon didn't bother hiding anything. Besides, Borsalino's abilities provided great support in combat, so knowing how Jon's power worked could improve their coordination.
"There are plants like this?" Borsalino raised an eyebrow in surprise.
A plant that could absorb strength—he had never even considered such a thing.
Back at the Marine training camp, he had once dismissed Jon's ability to create plants as weak and unimpressive.
Yet time and time again, Jon had proven otherwise. Whether it was his Wooden Warriors, the Wood Dragon, or other bizarre plants, every new creation left Borsalino astonished.
"Where do you even find these plants? And seriously, what is your brain made of, to come up with so many weird and creative ways to attack?"
Compared to Jon's ever-expanding arsenal of abilities, Borsalino felt like his own power was overly simple—just light manipulation.
Sure, it was flashy and incredibly strong, but it lacked the sheer variety of techniques Jon possessed.
"I just think and experiment a lot," Jon replied casually.
By now, Oven had turned deathly pale. Seeing that he could no longer resist, Jon gave a command:
"Return."
The massive Wood Dragon uncoiled from Oven's body and slithered back toward Jon, wrapping itself around him instead.
Oven collapsed onto the ship's deck, completely drained. He couldn't even muster the strength to stand.
As the Wood Dragon touched Jon's body, he immediately sensed a surge of energy flowing into him.
It was a familiar sensation—the same as when he absorbed life energy from plants. However, since this time the energy came from Oven's life force, the transfer rate wasn't as efficient.
"So it doesn't fully absorb everything…"
Despite draining Oven to the point of complete exhaustion, Jon had only received a fraction of the energy in return. Clearly, the Wood Dragon's conversion efficiency was much lower than simply drawing energy directly from plants.
Jon dismissed the Wood Dragon and stepped toward the collapsed Oven.
"You're about to die. At least tell me your name, so I know which of Big Mom's sons I've just killed."
"Mom will never forgive you," Oven spat, his gaze filled with hatred.
"That's fine. As long as I know you're Big Mom's son, that's all that matters."
Jon sighed and flicked his finger. A tiny green seed shot into Oven's body.
The next moment, the seed rapidly sprouted, transforming into dozens of bamboo spikes that pierced through Oven's flesh.
His eyes widened in disbelief, filled with rage and defiance. Even in death, he refused to close them.
"You just killed Big Mom's son like it was nothing," Borsalino remarked, raising an eyebrow. "Wouldn't it have been more useful to capture him alive?"
Jon's voice was cold. "That was just interest. I'll be taking more from them soon."
"Well, whatever you say," Borsalino sighed. "I've never seen you this ruthless before. That incident really changed you, huh?"
"Are you done talking?"
"Fine, fine, I'll shut up. Anyway, let's check out the loot. Maybe the Big Mom Pirates left us something good."
As their Marine ship pulled alongside the pirate vessel, Peberton led a group of soldiers aboard.
Jon gave him a look, and Peberton immediately understood—ignoring the dead pirates, he ordered his men to begin searching the ship instead.
Suddenly, Borsalino called out, his tone unusually excited.
"Hey, Jon! Guess what I just found?"
Jon turned toward him. "Something valuable?"
"Oh, way more than just valuable. This is something everyone on the sea dreams of having."
With a grin, Borsalino revealed his left hand, which had been hidden behind his back.
A Devil Fruit.
Jon's eyes widened. The moment he saw the fruit's swirled patterns, he instantly recognized what it was.
"That's right! A Devil Fruit," Borsalino confirmed. "Man, I did not expect this. What a lucky find."
Even though he already had a Devil Fruit power, he was still thrilled. After all, Devil Fruits were incredibly rare and valuable. If this one had a strong ability, it would be worth a fortune.
Jon, however, was skeptical. "The Big Mom Pirates had this and didn't eat it? Why?"
A Devil Fruit was a priceless treasure. Normally, anyone without powers would seize the chance to consume it. Given how many pirates were on this ship, why would they just leave it untouched?
"Maybe they were saving it for Big Mom," Borsalino suggested with a shrug.
Then he chuckled. "But hey, who cares? They didn't eat it, so now it's ours. The real question is—what do we do with it? Do we hand it over to the Marines, or keep it for ourselves?"
Jon shot him a sideways glance. "You're getting bolder, huh?"
Borsalino smirked. "Come on, it's our spoils of war. We have the right to decide what to do with it."
Jon shrugged. "Do whatever you want. I don't need it."
"You serious? This thing is worth over a hundred million berries! Even if you don't use it, you could sell it for a fortune. Aren't you even a little tempted?"
Jon's indifference baffled Borsalino.
He had never thought of Jon as someone who didn't care about money.
What Borsalino didn't know, however, was that Jon had other sources of wealth—far greater than what a single Devil Fruit could bring.
"I already told you, do whatever you want," Jon repeated.
"Alright then." Borsalino continued examining the fruit, a greedy glint in his eye.
After finishing their search, they returned to the Marine ship.
Peberton asked, "Why leave those two alive?"
Jon smirked. "So Big Mom's crew knows exactly who killed them."
"You're just trying to provoke them," Borsalino muttered. "Aren't you worried Big Mom will go berserk?"
Jon crossed his arms. "Actually, I hope she does. If she comes charging into Marine Headquarters, that'd be perfect."
