Chapter 66: Chapter 66: Son Of Roger.
"Brother Ace! Wake up!"
The bold, urgent voice pierced through the fog of drowsiness, jarring Ace's mind back to awareness. Slowly, he opened his eyes to see Jinbe's usually calm expression now filled with worry.
A man who had weathered countless storms, Jinbe rarely showed anxiety—so what could be so dire that he was this panicked?
As confusion swelled in Ace's chest, he suddenly realized the air around him was growing colder—bitterly cold, like he'd been plunged into a frozen tundra.
Shivering violently, he snapped out of his daze. Beside him stood Crocodile, and in the distance, a familiar figure approached at high speed.
"Admiral Aokiji!"
It turned out that after Iggy left, Jinbe had carried Ace and the others toward the edge of the battlefield.
They'd finally reached the shore, only to find that the Whitebeard Pirates' ship had drifted far from the coast—and the sea itself had been completely frozen.
With no way to regroup or flee, Admiral Kuzan had caught up to them.
"Ice Age… Partisan!"
Midair, cold vapor surged from Aokiji's right arm. The freezing air condensed rapidly, forming solid ice in an instant—an enormous icicle shaped into a massive, flying phoenix that soared straight toward the trio.
Wherever the ice phoenix flew, it left a wide, straight path of frozen terrain behind it, bearing down on them with terrifying speed.
"Mirror Flame!"
Breaking free from Jinbe's hold, Ace charged forward, his entire body igniting into flames.
He clenched his fist and launched a roaring column of fire toward the incoming ice phoenix.
Boom! The two forces collided with a thunderous crash. Steam exploded outward, and a towering wall of fire rose to meet the incoming frost.
The massive blast created a mushroom cloud of steam, soaring into the air. A shockwave swept through the battlefield.
Fortunately, the elemental advantage of fire over ice tipped the scales in Ace's favor—barely deflecting the admiral's powerful attack.
"Desert Spada!"
Crocodile swung his arm, slicing the air with a blade of sand that shot toward the distant pirate ship.
Golden sand surged and coiled, forming a massive arched bridge stretching from the shore to the ship.
Even 100 meters away, Crocodile's mastery over his Devil Fruit let him manipulate the sand into a floating structure—though it was draining enough to bring sweat to his brow.
"You two—get to the ship! Now!"
But before they could move, the frost creeping along the ground raced forward, overtaking the shore and reaching the sand bridge with a loud crack.
In the blink of an eye, the bridge was coated in solid ice—transformed into a frozen death trap.
Amidst the billowing steam, Aokiji hurled two three-pronged ice spears through the air. They sliced toward the bridge with chilling precision.
"Damn it!"
Crash! The icy spears smashed into the structure, shattering it into glimmering shards of frozen crystal.
Their escape route was destroyed once more. Admiral Kuzan now stood alone, ready to face Ace, Jinbe, and Crocodile on the shore.
As the two sides stared each other down, the ground beneath their feet began to rumble, a low quake shaking the earth.
"…That's the power of the Quake-Quake Fruit," Ace muttered.
He turned toward the epicenter. From that direction, screams and cries rang out—an unstoppable force cutting down everything in its path.
It could only mean one thing: his father was still out there, facing the Navy alone.
Ace clenched his jaw.
"I'm going back to save Dad!"
The dread swelling in his chest had grown too powerful to ignore. His instincts screamed at him—something terrible was about to happen.
As soon as he spoke, Jinbe and Crocodile both turned to him with disbelief and frustration. After all the lives sacrificed to bring him this far, he now wanted to go back?
"Brother Ace, listen to me—!"
Back in Impel Down, they'd shared the same cell. Jinbe was one of the few people Ace could confide in.
But this time, Ace turned to face him with a look Jinbe had never seen before—an unwavering fire in his eyes.
"I have to go… even if it means dying with my father!"
His voice trembled with emotion. This wasn't recklessness—it was loyalty. Ace had already decided.
Jinbe went quiet. In truth, this was the man he knew—one who would give everything to protect those he loved.
"…Then I'll go with you."
Jinbe's heart was firm. Without hesitation, the proud Fish-Man pledged to stand beside his brother once more.
Both of them turned to Crocodile.
They needed one more.
The former Warlord stood still, cigar between his lips. For a moment, he looked conflicted. Then he sighed, covering half his face with one hand.
"…The flame of the new era can't be extinguished. I'll hold Kuzan off."
With that, the trio turned their backs on the safe route, sprinting once more toward Admiral Aokiji.
As they closed the gap, Ace raised his arm and unleashed a massive Fire Fist, the blazing inferno surging toward Aokiji.
Running alongside the flames, Aokiji emerged from the blaze in his elemental form, frost coating his arms as he reached for Ace.
"Seven-Thousand Tile Roundhouse Kick!"
Jinbe dove overhead, twisting his body mid-air. Using his momentum, he slammed his foot downward like a falling star.
Boom! The force shattered Kuzan's body, sending shards of ice and rock exploding across the battlefield.
In the same motion, Jinbe landed on a scattering ice crystal, casting Fish-Man Karate: Spear Wave as he rushed after Ace.
"Sables!"
Before Aokiji could reform and counterattack, Crocodile unleashed a sandstorm that ripped across the ground.
The swirling storm engulfed the admiral, stretching for kilometers and hiding the trio's escape.
Half of Aokiji's body reformed in the sandstorm. He scowled through the grit and wind at the grinning Crocodile.
The three fugitives sprinted toward the source of the earthquake, but the heat around them was growing unbearable—as if they were walking into a furnace.
Boom!
The earth erupted. A geyser of magma exploded skyward between them.
Flaming pillars of molten rock shot toward the sky, cutting off their path.
The magma twisted mid-air, coiling like a serpent before slamming into the ground and taking shape.
A crimson figure emerged from the smoke—his bloodied mouth set in a grim frown, smoke billowing from his arms.
A red suit. A justice coat fluttering behind him.
Fleet Admiral Akainu had arrived.
He glared at Ace, his voice cold and filled with rage.
"Son of Roger… Let's see where you run to this time."
