Chapter 139: The Miserable Dragon
Upon entering the tent, Pei Yan and the others stood firm in front of Yuan Shaoqing. Pei Yan vaguely felt that he had seen this person in the parking lot the night his primal source went berserk. Now, the man was bare-chested, with his left arm and cheek swollen and inflamed. Later, Jiang Feiyang told him that this was after his own abilities and Elder Lin's help were used for restoration. He looked much worse before, almost unrecognizable.
"Sorry, things dragged on, and I couldn't provide support in time. Is your captain alright?" Yuan Shaoqing bowed his head, reaching into an ice bucket at his feet to grab a cold towel, neither wringing it dry nor avoiding the chills as he rubbed it on his face and body, letting the icy water trickle down his swollen skin, dripping onto the ground.
"It's not looking good; Elder Lin is still treating him, but there shouldn't be any life-threatening danger!" Ye Jiumu answered, standing at attention.
Yuan Shaoqing nodded, looked up at Pei Yan, raised his chin at him, and asked, "What happened to your eye?" After he spoke, both Jiang Feiyang and Peng Lang turned their heads to look, having wanted to ask when they first met Pei Yan but didn't dare to speak up for fear of bad luck.
Hearing the question, Pei Yan touched his left eye, "Got injured by a maniac from the Daoist Plane. Whether it will return to normal, I don't know yet."
"Surviving is good enough. Came to see the dragon, right?" Yuan Shaoqing asked, filled with emotion.
"Ah, yes!"
"Go ahead. Once inside the tent, just watch from a distance along the edge. Don't get too close!" After saying that, he fell silent, continuing to apply the ice-cold towel to his wounds.
With permission granted, Pei Yan and the others thanked him and followed Jiang Feiyang into the Jiezhi Space located in one corner of the tent.
When the light flashed and Pei Yan regained his vision, he couldn't help but open his mouth wide in shock at the scene before him. Despite having mentally prepared for this on the way, seeing such a gigantic creature in person left him breathless with excitement.
It really is a dragon! Completely different from the effects seen on a cinema screen, only by facing it directly can one feel the imposing presence of this magical creature.
The massive dragon lay sleeping on the ground, surrounded by dozens of Investigation Department personnel moving busily around. It was wrapped in layer upon layer of thick metal chains, each one as wide as a fist. Even lying down, it was nearly six or seven stories tall, over twenty meters high. Jiang Feiyang explained that if it stood up, its height would reach over thirty meters, as tall as a ten-story building.
"It's too big," Pei Yan marveled sincerely as they moved slowly along the outermost edge, following Yuan Shaoqing's instructions.
Behind him, Jiang Feiyang whispered, "I heard from Elder Lin after the battle that this dragon is not yet mature. If it were fully grown, it would be much larger, and the Dragon King's size is even bigger!"
"Not mature yet, and already this big!" Liang Qian puckered her lips, clicking her tongue in amazement.
At this moment, through observation, Pei Yan finally understood what Jiang Feiyang meant by modifications. Besides the height, which was initially shocking, the rest of it was just ugly!
Too ugly! Completely different from the mighty image described in movies. Although not much different in general shape, the dragon's back was covered in man-sized pustules, making one's scalp tingle. Even Xia Yu, the tough girl, couldn't help but furrow her brow and mutter, "This dragon looks like it has scabies."
"Don't underestimate those pustules; you can't touch them. If they are hit by external force, the skin will rupture and spew out a thick fluid that can dissolve a person, and then they will heal automatically and swell up again. Many of us suffered losses from this," Peng Lang said with lingering fear, looking at the pustules.
Pei Yan turned back to ask, "Are those things something it naturally grows?"
Peng Lang shook his head, "No, Elder Lin said that at least he hadn't seen it before. To be honest, Elder Lin didn't even recognize this dragon at first as the one mentioned in the joint investigation report. If it weren't for…." Speaking, Peng Lang pointed to a large, dull, semi-oval sphere on the dragon's chin, "If it weren't for Elder Lin recognizing the unique royal decoration under its jaw and confirming it after several comparisons, this dragon was almost killed on the spot."
"Oh!" Everyone nodded upon hearing this, continuing to watch the giant dragon. When they reached the dragon's tail, Pei Yan squinted, staring at the tail for a long time, repeatedly confirming before asking, "Am I seeing things, or is there a dragon head on its tail?"
He pointed to the end of the dragon's tail, where a small dragon head with closed eyes hung down. More astonishing was that the small dragon head didn't seem to be a mere ornament, as it continuously emitted fiery gas from its nostrils. The entire tail was peculiar; the dragon scales were nearly invisible, replaced by a hideous bald tail. This bare tail was filled with closed, narrow slits that gently opened and closed in rhythm with the dragon head at the tip's breathing.
"You're not mistaken; that's indeed a dragon head, and during combat, that head sprays acid mist. See those long slits," Jiang Feiyang pointed to the slits on the dragon's tail as he explained.
Everyone nodded in unison, "Yes, we see them!"
"In battle, spikes extend from those slits, each swing potentially piercing anyone who dares approach. Even if you risk getting close, those spikes retract back into the tail, transforming into a gaping maw with soft tongues that try to wrap and pull you in."
Pausing for a moment, Jiang Feiyang continued, "There's more. Since she's lying down, you can't see her claws. Those claws are full of barbs, and the bottom of the claws have similar slits. Once it grabs you, a bite would render you half-dead, if not outright killing you."
Listening to Jiang Feiyang's account, Pei Yan could imagine the ferocity of the battle at that time. Facing an enemy with such bizarre and powerful abilities, unable to fully unleash attacks, the situation here was indeed far more perilous than what he had to face.
"So how did you subdue her?" Liang Qian asked curiously.
"After Director Gu and Elder Lin arrived, we had basically controlled the situation, suppressing this evil dragon. But capturing her alive was still too difficult. Finally, it wasn't until Elder Zuo arrived with reinforcements and they jointly attacked that Elder Zuo seized the opportunity to invade her mind and hypnotize her, calming and controlling her," Peng Lang recalled the recent battle vividly.
Pei Yan stepped forward, squatted to take a closer look at the dragon's claws Jiang Feiyang mentioned but failed to do so, patted the dust off his pants, and turned back to ask, "So what will we do with her? Wait for her dad to come and get her?"
"Right now, it's tricky," Jiang Feiyang scratched his head, appearing troubled. Captain Yuan said that moving such a huge living thing through the Teleportation Array in the Jiezhi Space might trigger a repellent reaction. But whether we leave her here or transport her a long distance through the Jiezhi Space, the risks are enormous. If this dragon awakens in a rampage and escapes the Jiezhi Space, it would cause massive damage and harm to the surrounding populace."
