Chapter 140: The Fish That Cannot Be Forgotten
After touring the legendary dragon, Pei Yan and his group left the Jiezhi Space. By this time, Yuan Shaoqing was no longer in the tent. As the group walked out of the tent, Pei Yan noticed that the armed police officers enforcing martial law had already disappeared into the mist, leaving a large cleared area on the street where a group of people was busily drawing something on the ground with strange dyes.
"Are they from the Three Pristine Department? What are they drawing?" Pei Yan recognized these people by their attire as the staff who came to handle the follow-up affairs on the night of Chinese New Year.
Ye Jiumu squinted and stared at the patterns on the ground for a while, then answered, "A one-time use teleportation array, probably for the dragon inside."
"Hey, can't you just use your photo?" Xia Yu interjected.
Ye Jiumu rolled his eyes at Xia Yu, "Please, spare me. This thing is so big, and to teleport such a distance, never mind whether it's successful or not, even if it succeeded, it would cost me half my life."
Pei Yan quietly watched the Three Pristine Department people drawing circles and curiously asked, "Where is this dragon being teleported to? Our bureau? Or the Secret Prison?"
"How could it be teleported back to the bureau? The bureau usually detains species that aren't so dangerous. This dragon is so large and dangerous that if something went wrong, it would be in the capital city. It wouldn't be the Secret Prison, either, as that's a place for handling crimes by those with supernatural abilities. I've heard that there's a place somewhere isolated in the country meant specifically for containing such things, but I don't know the exact location."
Just as Jiang Feiyang finished speaking and Pei Yan hadn't yet responded, a series of cracking sounds came from behind him, soon followed by a nearly tangible mist spreading out and covering the area, causing the staff from the Three Pristine Department to temporarily stop their work and wait for the dense fog to dissipate.
Seeing this, Pei Yan took a few steps to the side and looked behind the tent, where he saw the protective array built by Ye Jiumu, Xia Yu, and others to isolate the pond from the outside world was now breaking up, turning into water mist that scattered and revealed the pond's original appearance.
The dimensional crack that had hung in the air was growing dimmer under the control of five staff members from the Three Pristine Department, and it seemed that it wouldn't be long before it completely closed.
What surprised Pei Yan wasn't these things but rather the fact that the ice shards and blocks scattered by the battle had been cleaned up in such a short time. Although you could clearly see that the pond was far from being filled and restored to its original state, the pond's edge was at least free of large ice blocks and piles of ice shards, and other investigators had begun working on leveling and restoring the ground now.
At this moment, Pei Yan saw four staff members carrying Shangxing on a large stretcher and hurriedly joined the other team members to gather around.
By now, Shangxing was clearly in much better condition than before. The huge wound on his arm had healed into a large, hairless lump, which, though unsightly and even a bit disgusting, was better than having a useless arm. The frown he wore from pain had also smoothed out, and he was now breathing evenly, sleeping soundly on the stretcher.
Ye Jiumu stepped forward on behalf of the group to ask Elder Lin, who was walking out slowly, "Our captain will be okay, right? When will he likely wake up?"
"He'll be fine. As for waking up, it will probably take two to three days. After that, it's all about rest and recuperation. Don't worry, I'll have someone inform you when his condition stabilizes." Elder Lin waved his hand to have the stretcher carried away as he responded.
With these words, everyone sighed in relief. Just as Pei Yan looked over to see the staff covering Captain Shangxing with a sheet to obscure his noticeable appearance and prepare to move him to a vehicle, he suddenly felt his sleeve being gently tugged. He looked down, and his remaining right eye's pupil quickly dilated.
"Where's the fish?" The inexplicable little girl who had knocked him out with a fish was staring at him with what appeared to outsiders to be innocent eyes, yet to Pei Yan, they seemed wicked beyond belief, as she timidly asked.
Momentarily stunned, Pei Yan subconsciously replied, "What?"
"Where's the fish!" The little girl's eyes widened further, and with those words, she suddenly increased her grip on Pei Yan's sleeve, successfully tearing off half of it with a ripping sound as she jerked him around.
Heartbroken at his torn clothes, Pei Yan looked at the girl, who now had her hand on his pant leg and seemed ready to cry.
"The fish is in the tent! Let go, and I'll go get it for you!" Pei Yan hurriedly squatted down, trying to pry open the little girl's tiny hand, but found that her hand seemed more like an iron clamp, refusing to let go.
Gu Shenghui, who had just stepped away from the pond and was walking alongside Yang Xiujin, sighed when he saw this, pointed at Ye Jiumu, and ordered, "Go get it for him!"
Meanwhile, Yang Xiujin, standing next to him, clearly seemed intimidated by the little girl, took a few unconsciously backward steps, stood behind Gu Shenghui, and for the first time, laid his eyes on the young Pei Yan, who he usually wouldn't spare a glance at, wondering who this person really was.
Soon, Ye Jiumu came jogging back, carrying the large fish and handed it directly to Pei Yan's arms, who then gestured to the little girl with the fish.
"Eat it!"
"Ah! Raw?" Hearing this, Pei Yan opened his mouth, somewhat angry. Even if you're very impressive, isn't this a bit too much to ask?
At this point, Elder Lin hurriedly came forward, squatted in front of the little girl, and tried to mediate, "You mean you want him to eat this fish, right?"
"Mm!" The little girl nodded.
"Does it matter how he eats it?"
"Hmm, as long as he eats it himself, eats it all, and doesn't waste any!"
Elder Lin sincerely and patiently asked, "Then I guarantee he will take this fish back and eat it all, is that okay?"
The little girl listened to Elder Lin's promise, looked at Pei Yan, then nodded, released the grip on his pant leg, and turned away. Pei Yan saw two staff members carrying two large bins of frozen fish closely following her.
Once the little girl was far enough away, Yang Xiujin returned to stand beside Gu Shenghui, lowered his head to inquire about what the two had been discussing earlier, and after learning about the fish situation from Gu, his eyes lit up with greed as he stared at the large fish Pei Yan was holding, confused.
After much deliberation, reason and fear of that person won over greed, and he suddenly remembered the fish that had slapped him. He recalled that it was still at the bottom of the pond, left behind by that adult, and quickly turned to whisper to his fellow sect members behind him.
Soon, under Ye Jiumu's stunned gaze, these ten or so otherworldly cultivators chased out all the Three Pristine Department people restoring the ground and turned the once tidy pond inside out, searching through every frozen fish.
Even a fool would understand what was going on by now. Pei Yan looked down at the fish in his arms, realizing it might actually be something good?
