Chapter 151: Disgusting Truth? (Please Subscribe)
Hearing Captain Fan's question, Ye Jiumu and Pei Yan exchanged a glance. Captain Fan saw their troubled expressions and coughed softly, saying, "Ah, if it's inconvenient to say, there's no need to. I understand there are rules from above."
Ye Jiumu adjusted his cap, took off his police hat, brushed his hair, and said with a smile, "Ah, there's nothing inconvenient to say. Actually, Captain Fan, we're not as mysterious as you imagine, more like semi-supernatural individuals. Take my colleague for instance, he has an extraordinary memory, photographic recall, and computational skills rivaling a computer. If you don't believe it, just throw some random multiplication or division problems at him."
"Huh?" Pei Yan, who was lazing around nearby, was stunned by these words. Seeing Ye Jiumu glare at him, he suddenly realized and nodded, "Ah, right, no problem at all, Captain Fan, you can test me on anything."
Hearing this, Captain Fan got interested. He took out his phone, randomly thought of a few large numbers, and read them to Pei Yan while calculating on his phone. Before he could finish inputting the numbers, Pei Yan had already blurted out the answers.
Looking at the final result on his phone, Captain Fan looked up in surprise at Pei Yan, "Wow, young man, you're impressive! You could compete in The Brain."
"Just average, just average!" Pei Yan responded modestly.
Ye Jiumu put his cap back on and interjected, "So, Captain Fan, we're just a group of people with special skills, gathered by the state for special assignments."
"Oh, what about the dogs that came down from the building?" Captain Fan skeptically pursed his lips and then asked his biggest question. He had led people upstairs and secured the building; the sudden appearance of a dozen fierce wolves was shocking to him.
"Oh, some things can't be easily explained, Captain Fan. Our country has its share of extraordinary individuals. Some things are better left a mystery, don't you think? Can you tell us about the case now?" Ye Jiumu said awkwardly, rubbing his neck.
Captain Fan immediately understood, nodding with a knowing look, and changed the topic, "Got it, got it! Let's talk about the case. We received the report at five in the morning. A university student in the next-door dorm got up to use the bathroom and couldn't stand the strange smell from the crime scene. Out of curiosity, he pushed the door open for a glance and was so shocked that he collapsed. Other students woke up from the noise and reported to the police."
Saying this, Captain Fan took out a cigarette pack and handed two cigarettes to the young men in the back. After they accepted, he took one himself, lit it, and continued, "We immediately secured the scene upon arrival. This case is unprecedented in our city, even rare in our province. We reported it upwards to request aid because the scene was bizarre and there were many unreasonable aspects."
He turned sideways and looked at the two behind him, "First, besides the fatal wounds, the prime concern is their burns. We found no combustibles or residue at the scene. The coroner's preliminary judgment suggests the burns might be from electrocution."
"But the problem arises here. The dormitory voltage can't simultaneously inflict this kind of electrocution on three people. Forcing it to happen would cause a short circuit, but according to the records of the other students and the administrator, there was no voltage instability that night. Everything was normal. The coroner's initial assessment placed the time of death around midnight, and the wounds appeared shortly after the deaths."
"After they were dead? Even after they're dead, Song Mingyuan still went crazy?" Pei Yan mumbled, recalling the bodies and their wounds sent shivers down his spine. What kind of grudge was this!
"Moreover, the issue is today is a day off. The school doesn't usually cut off the power on such nights, so students tend to stay up late. Based on the death state, the earliest time of death wouldn't be before one o'clock, yet no unusual noise was reported from surrounding rooms."
Ye Jiumu muttered, lowering his head, "That suggests the killer subdued the victims instantly during the act."
"Yes, but can one person subdue three big guys at once without a sound? Could a normal person do that?" Captain Fan said as he deeply inhaled his cigarette and shook his head helplessly.
A normal person couldn't, but a person with abilities could! At least Pei Yan could. Realizing he couldn't pursue this line of questioning any further, since he couldn't offer a reasonable answer, he shifted the topic, "Captain Fan, can you tell us about Song Mingyuan? Do you know anything about him?"
"Song Mingyuan, twenty years old, a sophomore at the XXX Agricultural University's Water Conservancy Department. Hails from XX City, XX Province. Academically average. According to classmates, he was well-mannered and initially had good relations, got along well with his roommates, and no deep grudges or grievances were known. Initial background checks showed a well-off family; no financial troubles were present, and no large financial disputes were found on him."
After snuffing out the cigarette, Captain Fan continued, "Initial inquiries didn't find any romantic relations on campus, which aligns with Song Mingyuan's personality. Some female classmates had expressed interest, but he turned them down. Since the second semester of his freshman year, he became reclusive, reluctant to interact with others, declining many invitations to gatherings, often disappearing on days off, with no one knowing his whereabouts."
After Captain Fan's account, a brief silence filled the car. All three understood that during this period, he had already awakened his powers, spending his off days either honing his skills in secret or seeking knowledge in libraries and online.
Though they understood, none dared to say it aloud. Just as the car's tense atmosphere reached its peak, it stopped abruptly, finally arriving at the destination.
The four in the car exhaled in relief. Pei Yan jumped out of the police car as if escaping. Just as Captain Fan led the two towards the municipal bureau, Ye Jiumu tugged at his sleeve and softly asked, "Captain Fan, when I did a brief check at the scene, I found the victims' hearts were missing. Do you know what's going on?"
Captain Fan turned to signal the driver to go ahead, then turned back to Ye Jiumu, clicking his tongue, "The hearts were taken back to the bureau by the coroner. Besides forensic analysis, we found that there are….."
"What is it?" Pei Yan stepped forward and asked, seeing the other hesitate.
"The cardiac area is incomplete, with bite marks from a human on it."
"Ugh, ugh!"
