Chapter 205: Devouring The Soul Contract
'Devour!'
The moment Ian gave the command in his mind, he once again felt the strong suction from the cocoon targeting the Sigil on Aurora's soul that he was intently staring at with his colorless pupils.
Swish!
And just like when he had engulfed those essences within Dornar's soul, erasing his existence bit by bit, he saw the Sigil itself being erased from Aurora's soul, although he wasn't sure what he was absorbing this time.
In fact, the moment Ian's gaze landed on that part and he gave the order to devour, he already noticed the black threads coiling around the edges of the sigil becoming restless.
'It is indeed possible to erase it.'
Ian was genuinely surprised, as what he was attempting to devour right now was a Soul contract, that too related to a Monarch-level figure.
Yet, it was being erased just like Dornar's soul in the Ignisia Tower.
'So, it is useful in other cases too, not just the soul.'
Just as Ian was delighted by the discovery and was carefully controlling his power to avoid accidentally touching Aurora's actual soul, he suddenly heard a voice in his mind.
'No, what are you doing?'
The voice was faint and intermittent at first but quickly became clearer until it was practically shouting inside his head.
'Hey, hey... what's going on? How... how is this possible?'
By this time, Ian had already recognized that the voice inside his head belonged to a female, though she sounded confused and anxious by what was unfolding before her.
'No... hey, kid... don't erase the contract.'
'What are you doing?'
'Don't you know it's the basis of our transaction? How else will your girl practice then?'
As the sigil's existence grew fainter, the black threads coiling around it and relying on it for sustenance also began to fade, as if on the verge of vanishing.
The process was slow but there.
Naturally, the voice could no longer remain silent and desperately tried to persuade Ian.
'Heh, you're finally speaking now? What, are you afraid or something?'
Of course, Ian didn't stop just because she told him to. He merely smirked, continuing to erase the soul contract.
In fact, he had been muttering the name Ulthera repeatedly in his mind, hoping she would appear again. But no, unlike before, he had heard nothing.
Yet, her sudden appearance now proved she had been there all along—choosing not to respond or invade his mind like before.
'Hey, kid. Stop your low-level taunting. I'm being serious here.'
'Without this contract, Aurora won't be able to practice at all. VoidBorn is no joke. Do you really want to see her sad again?'
The voice ignored his taunt, trying instead to genuinely dissuade him, as it realized it had no power to stop what was happening.
A Soul Contract was an incredibly strong binding that couldn't simply be violated. Even if someone managed to break free of it, their soul would still suffer damage at the very least.
But what was happening now was so absurd that even Ulthera was astonished. Unfortunately, she was the one being affected, so she had no luxury to marvel at it.
The more the process continued, the more anxious she became.
'HEY... STOP! Didn't you hear what I said?!'
Seeing that Ian refused to acknowledge her and was still staring intently at the sigil, the voice panicked as the black threads suddenly rustled, trying to escape.
However, unfortunately, they couldn't.
Instead, they stopped abruptly, bound by an unseen force—just like Dornar, who had been unable to escape Ian's gaze.
'Found it!'
Suddenly, Ian, who had been silent all along, ignoring the voice in his mind, spoke with a hint of excitement.
He swiftly stopped erasing the sigil midway and shifted his focus to the black threads—particularly a point near the edge of the soul barrier, causing it to flutter a little in response, opening a gap.
'Wha—How did you...? Why?'
As Ian's gaze shifted, the voice, which had been filled with anxiety moments ago, now sounded utterly stunned.
She was so caught off guard that she didn't even know how to respond.
'D-Did you know all along?'
Then, as if realizing something, she hesitated before questioning Ian.
All along, she had assumed he was just trying to erase the Sigil and free Aurora from the Soul contract.
But now... she wasn't sure anymore.
'Why are you guys so interested in Aurora, anyway?'
Finally, the voice wasn't ignored like before as Ian asked her what he wanted to know the most while looking at the specific point of the black threads with his predatory gaze, not allowing it to even move.
'Hmm? This girl? Isn't it because of her physique?'
The voice seemed stunned by Ian's sudden question and answered subconsciously.
'Physique? VoidBorn? What is so special about that?'
Ian asked once again while controlling his power, as it was getting a little unbearable to maintain.
'Heh... kid. Why are you suddenly shifting the topic? Like I said, I am not sure what power you have to erase the Soul Contract, but without it, this girl won't be able to practice. Why don't you stop now?'
The voice seemed to have gained its momentum as she didn't reply to Ian and instead once again asked him to stop what he was doing.
'Oh? You don't seem to be anxious anymore. Aren't you afraid that I will erase its existence too, just like that contract?'
Ian was intrigued by her sudden shift as he questioned her while looking at the tiny bead hidden inside the black threads.

If the threads hadn't moved to escape before, he truly would have had a hard time finding it, as it was too small and blended into the background.
However, once it came into his vision, he could easily distinguish it as, although small, it was lavender in color, with intricate red patterns that seemed chaotic.
'Hmm? What? Erasing it from existence?'
Ian's question didn't scare the voice, but it made her genuinely confused.
Then, as if she had just heard the most ridiculous joke, a restrained chuckle echoed in his mind before growing into a mocking laugh.
'Hehe... Hahaha... kid, do you think it is some kind of weak-ass contract that you can erase with your weird power? Aren't you overestimating yourself?'
