Percy Jackson: Book Of Random Story

Chapter 3: Story 3: Welcome Back Jason, Part 2

Nico: "And that is how I found Jason back alive."

Nico finished his story, casually leaning against a tree, his arms crossed, and a smirk on his face. Percy, Annabeth, and the others had gathered around, listening in shock as Nico recounted how Jason had somehow ended up being resurrected... and stuck in the middle of a video game session with a bunch of kids. Everyone was trying to make sense of it.

But what no one realized was what was happening in the background.

There, standing in the far corner of the camp, was Chiron, the centaur, giving a very serious lecture to the three young demi-gods who had somehow gotten Jason back.

Chiron (sternly): "So, you see, children, bringing someone back from the Underworld isn't a simple task. It requires extreme caution, and this isn't like any of the ancient rituals you may have read about. It's not a party trick—it's about respecting life, death, and—"

The three girls, who looked barely old enough to be out of elementary school, were sitting on the ground with wide, starry eyes, completely entranced by Chiron's lecture. They were nodding along, but clearly not really understanding the gravity of the situation.

Girl 1 (whispering to Girl 2): "So, like, is he telling us we can't just bring people back for fun? Like, ever?"

Girl 2: "I don't know, but I'm sure he's just talking about the really serious cases... like when someone's dead for a long time, right?"

Girl 3 (squinting at Jason): "I mean, Jason's only been dead for like, what? A few months? We could totally bring him back, no big deal."

Chiron (raising an eyebrow): "This isn't some game where you press a button and hope for the best, young ones. Jason's return came with a lot of unexpected consequences. You have no idea the amount of paperwork that comes with resurrecting someone—"

But the girls weren't paying attention. They were too busy turning their heads toward the real action—Jason.

And where was Jason? Well, Jason was sitting cross-legged on the ground, in front of a very colorful arcade machine the girls had set up. His face was illuminated by flashing lights from the screen, looking completely disoriented.

Jason (mumbling to himself): "I was just fighting gods and now I'm stuck on level one of Super Mario Bros?"

His hands fumbled with the joystick as his character, a plumber with a big red hat, jumped around a pixelated world. The girls were watching him with intense excitement, ready for him to "perform" like some kind of video game savior.

Nico (under his breath): "This... is not how I imagined this going."

Annabeth: "Yeah, I mean... Jason... resurrected for this?"

Percy (chuckling): "Well, it's Jason. Of course this is how it's going down."

Meanwhile, Chiron was still lecturing, but his words were becoming increasingly less impactful as the focus shifted.

Chiron (gritting his teeth, not noticing the growing chaos behind him): "The point is, resurrection should always be a last resort. It's an art. It's a skill. And if you treat it lightly, you risk—"

Suddenly, Jason let out a loud scream as he accidentally jumped straight into a pit of fire in Super Mario Bros.

Jason: "Nooooo!"

Girls: "YES! THAT'S THE SPIRIT!"

Jason put his hands over his face, groaning in frustration.

Jason: "This is worse than fighting giants... I just want to die again."

Girl 1: "Come on, Jason! You can't quit now! We need you to beat this boss!"

Jason glared at the screen, his mind still reeling from being resurrected. As he took a deep breath and gripped the controller once again, he noticed the girls had actually started taking notes.

Girl 2: "Alright, note to self: never try to summon a hero and throw them into a video game they've never played before."

Girl 3: "Wait, he was actually dead? I thought he was just a really good actor."

Chiron (spinning around now, noticing the chaos unfolding): "What in Hades' name is going on here?"

Nico: "Oh, Chiron, you missed the best part. Jason's being resurrected... and now he's a gaming demigod."

Chiron (looking at Jason, who was still failing miserably at the game): "By the gods, I thought I was the one who needed a break from all the chaos around here!"

Jason (muttering to himself while pressing buttons furiously): "Why can't I just die in peace? Is that too much to ask for?"

Chiron: "Jason, do you at least know how to defeat this level?"

Jason (grimacing): "I'm beginning to think that dying was easier."

As Jason continued to flail in front of the screen, another fire pit swallowed him up, and the girls cheered in delight.

Girl 1: "He's getting it! He's getting it!"

Nico (sighing deeply): "You know, I thought I was the one who came back from the dead to cause chaos... but Jason's definitely giving me a run for my money."

Nico: "So, who's going to tell Piper that her boyfriend is back to life?"

The entire group went silent. Percy, Annabeth, Leo, Hazel, and Frank all exchanged glances, like they were mentally debating the most dangerous quest they could embark on—one that involved telling Piper about Jason's return.

Percy, Annabeth, Leo, Hazel (in unison): "Not in."

They all immediately turned their heads away, pretending to examine the surroundings, focusing on random objects—basically anything that could distract them from the obvious task at hand.

Frank: "Damn it, I was slow..." He muttered, realizing everyone else had already made their decision not to tell Piper. The poor guy had hoped he could just accidentally miss the moment.

Nico, meanwhile, was sitting there, arms crossed, a smirk on his face as he watched them squirm. He could practically feel the tension building. The complete avoidance of the subject made it all the more amusing.

Nico: "Alright, well, I guess it's my turn, huh?" He stood up, stretching as if preparing for the challenge ahead. "Someone's gotta break the news."

Annabeth (calling out to him): "Wait, Nico, you're not actually—"

But Nico was already walking toward the cabin door, grinning.

Nico: "Oh, don't worry. It'll be fine. I mean, how bad could it be? Piper's just... gonna have a little emotional moment when she finds out that her boyfriend, who's been dead, is now resurrected... and probably still confused about video games."

Frank: "You really think Piper's gonna be okay with this?" His voice was tinged with concern.

Nico (shrugging): "She's tough. She can handle it. Besides, if anything goes really wrong, I can always blame Leo." He smirked, clearly enjoying the chaos.

Leo immediately opened his mouth to protest, but no one was listening. They were all trying to avoid making eye contact, hoping Nico would handle it.

Nico walked outside, fully aware that the storm was about to hit.

Meanwhile, inside the cabin, Jason was still trying to defeat his digital enemies while the three girls cheered him on. He hadn't noticed the bigger issue unfolding.

A few moments later, Piper walked into camp, humming cheerfully. She froze as she noticed everyone was acting a little... odd. Their nervous looks gave it all away.

Piper: "Hey, guys! What's going on? Is something happening?"

She turned to face Frank first, who gave a small awkward wave, then to Percy, who immediately looked away.

Piper's eyes narrowed. "Why does it feel like someone's hiding something from me?"

Leo, who was desperately trying to look busy with some random gadget, was the first to crack under pressure.

Leo: "Uh, well, it's not exactly... hiding. It's more like... leaving things up to Nico?"

Piper: "What? What is going on?"

Before anyone could stop him, Nico walked in with an unholy grin on his face.

Nico: "Hey, Piper... you might want to sit down for this one."

Piper blinked at him, confused. "What happened?"

Nico: "So, you know how Jason died? Yeah, well... he's alive again."

There was a collective pause. Everyone froze.

Piper blinked again, her brain processing the information at an alarming rate.

Piper: "Wait, what?"

Just as she processed it, Jason, still sitting on the ground, had managed to finally defeat the first boss of Elden Ring 3. He jumped up, pumped his fist into the air in triumph.

Jason: "YES! Finally! This is my true calling."

Piper turned around. Her eyes went wide. "JASON?!"

Jason, who had still been completely absorbed in his game, looked up. He blinked, his expression frozen in utter confusion. "Oh hey, Piper! So... uh, you're not gonna believe this, but... I'm back... and really bad at video games."

The room went absolutely silent, everyone just staring.

Piper: "You're... back?"

Jason: "Yeah. Kinda got resurrected by accident. Long story. Also, I may or may not be trapped in a video game." He gestured vaguely at the screen. "They keep calling me 'the chosen one' or whatever. It's honestly a lot of pressure."

Piper stared at him for a moment, blinked, then burst out laughing. "You've been gone for months... and this is how you come back? Video games?"

Nico, who was just standing there with a smug expression, watched the chaos unfold. "I guess that's one way to break it to her."

Piper, wiping tears of laughter from her eyes, turned to Nico. "Okay, I totally didn't expect this. You owe me big time, Nico."

Nico: "I'm just doing the world a favor by making this completely ridiculous. You're welcome."

And as Jason tried to explain his bizarre resurrection, the camp watched on, trying not to laugh or cry at the absurdity of it all. For once, things had gotten weird even by Camp Half-Blood standards.
