Pestilence: Rise Of The Pure Undead

Chapter 783: Successful Hunt

In unison, soldiers in white raised their right arms straight above their heads, some sort of stone or mineral forming, hovering above their palms, until it melted and turned into a ball of liquid lava, and once more perfectly coordinated, they all threw it at the same time, the spheres of lava melding together before landing upon the ground, exploding into a shower of flames and heat, leaving behind a puddle that remained at the same temperature and did not lose its liquid state as quickly as normal lava would have.

The living soldiers missed their target however, a swift, copper-coloured blur rushed at them, splitting the skull of one of them, as the rest manifested the same rocks as before, instead fusing them onto their blades, coating the weapons into solid magma as they rushed to pin down the attacker.

Arrows came whistling through the air, impaling them through the neck with deadly precision and power, punching right through their protective gear without any problem, the remaining soldiers in white were struck from behind as their attention were split between the copper blur and archer, a straight sword imbued with light magic swiftly tore right through them, stabbing right through the heart of the last one standing.

The battle ended, and the vicinity, which had been burned and destroyed by the strange spells these soldiers had used rapidly healed back to what it was as the corpses were converted into spirit life, nourishing the realm and allowing it to undo the senseless demolition.

"Was that the last of them?" the one wielding the sword of light asked, sighing heavily as he waited before sheathing his blade.

"Seems like the area is cleared to me" responded the blur, who was armoured in a suit of copper-coloured armour, and wielded a halberd made from the same material, she planted her weapon into the ground and simply leaned against it.

"Clear for me as well- What were those though? That wasn't regular magic at all, nor did it look like sorcery, I am pretty sure it's a way of power I never saw before" the archer stepped closer to the other two, readjusting his glasses as he glanced around.

"Pretty sure? You don't know for certain? Isn't your special system or whatever supposed to come with a built-in appraisal?"

"Not everything is handed to me all willy-nilly, you know? I'll need to see that a few more times to get an answer… But anyways, that was different from what we heard, so they have really brought in a bunch of different sorts of soldiers all at once, and this was just one patrol, I was told that they were packing their troops much further away, I think we can expect them to get more aggressive, they might actually try to break through the barrier" spoke the archer, shaking his head.

"Look at you, you're so confident now, Toby, not even batting an eye after killing a bunch of people" Ilona chuckled.

"Well, I won't claim that it does not bother me, and I certainly do not want to be seen as someone who enjoys killing, like you do, but it's definitely necessary" he replied.

"Necessary… Everyone knows you're doing it for your bunny girlfriend, Toby, or is it bunny wife now?" William waved his eyebrows at the archer, who covered his mouth in response, clearing his throat.

"Rich coming from you when you are here for your Ilazan" Ilona grabbed her halberd and spun it as she began walking away whilst the blond man choked on his words.

"Ah, so it's official between you and the green sun battlemonk? It was about time, how long have you two been flirting together?"

"More like playing around, they've been in a relationship for a while, but she just kept messing with him, that's what happens when you catch feelings for a sun worshipper, they love like how they live, by making jokes and playing pranks, though, judging by such how much she torments him, Ilazan must really be in love"

"Urgh… How do you two know so much when I haven't been saying anything? Ilazan is responsible, right? She's trying to embarrass me so that she can comfort me later, again"

"You don't sound too displeased about that prospect, I guess the lap pillow and kissing on the head while she holds you against her chest are worth it?"

"How the hell do you know this?! She spilled the beans about that too?! Dear… What the hell is she planning to do for the confort this time then?"

"What a lost cause, he got used to the cycle"

"Well, she must be very happy with him since he plays along so well"

Toby and Ilona shook their heads, continuously commenting on William's relationship for the whole way back to the barrier, and the poor guy had gotten so used to Ilazan's jokes and pranks that he barely even reacted to it, he had truly developed a thick skin.

"We haven't been seeing much of the usual soldiers from before though, the regular ones and big guys have been completely absent since the new ones arrived" spoke Toby.

"I noticed that too, it's almost like they were willfully informing us of what the newcomers are capable of, which is just nonsensical to think about" Ilona scratched her cheek, since they had begun fighting for the Emerald Realm, it was like the opposing side had done nothing but blunders and strange decisions.

They doubted that the undeads were not actively receiving reports and giving orders, so such a lack of cunning was incredibly suspicious.

"I heard from Ilazan that every time a soldier in white dies, they seemed to release something, or rather, their death does something to the realm, so I assumed that they were willingly making seemingly poor decisions to get as many of them killed as was possible, they probably don't realise that the sun worshippers are actively undoing any progress they make this way though" William shrugged his shoulders as the three of them passed right through the barrier.

Toby was about to speak again, but he was suddenly struck right in the face by what looked like a cannonball.

"Toby! Was the hunt good? Still got some stamina?"

He rose up from the ground without any sign of a concussion, the 'cannonball' still holding onto him.

"The hunt was pretty good, and don't worry, I am still in top shape! Why don't you wait for me? I'll be there soon" taking Ooaluz off his face and into his arms, he did not resist the urge to pet her ears before putting the beast sorceress down.

"Heheh, I'll be waiting!" she sped away, nowadays, she was looking a lot more like Jokra than she used to, her ears had gotten exceptionally big and she had begun to grow some soft fur over certain parts of her body, although she no longer looked the same, Toby did not mind in the least.

And of course, as her appearance had gotten closer to that of her chosen beast, her libido had also increased further, somehow.

"I have no idea how you are not dead, you two alone have contributed to a surge in population"

"What can I say? I am a man that came from another world and was granted a special system! My skills about stamina and resistance to blunt force trauma have soared right through the roof- Honestly, I think a high-tier undead could box my skull for a few minutes without me feeling anything at this point"

"Aren't system skills not that useful? How high would it need to be for you to be so confident?"

"Pretty damned high- Let me check"

"There are a few skills that help but- Blunt damage resistance, at tier seventy"

"Seventy?! Isn't there like a hundred level to each tier?"

"Yup"

"And don't the requirements for each level get higher every time?"

"Yup"

"How in the hell…"

"God… Stop talking guys, I have the images in my head now…"
