Chapter 132: Chapter 132: So Weak?
"Great! I'll inform the supervisor here, and we can head to a private battlefield for our Pokemon battle."
Seeing Julian's enthusiastic agreement, Moka smiled but didn't underestimate him. As Kalia's friend, Julian must be quite skilled, although Moka remained skeptical that he could surpass Kalia.
As long as Julian wasn't stronger than Kalia, Moka was confident in his victory. His Pokemon were formidable, and on the sixth floor, he considered himself a mid-tier Trainer.
The Battle Tower had dedicated arenas for challengers to engage in battles against each other, typically not used unless specifically requested by participants.
Since Moka and Julian initiated a challenge, the supervisor of the sixth floor opened up the seldom-used Battlefield 7.
Battlefield 7 was similar to others, and both Moka and Julian followed the staff member inside.
"Woah, it's huge!"
Julian marveled at the expansive, earth-toned battlefield. Initially, he wondered how they would fight in such a small room, only to discover the surprising vastness upon entering.
Having originated from a small town and obtaining his Charmeleon by sheer coincidence, Moka had never encountered such advanced spatial technology before.
At that moment, only they were present on the battlefield. Moka walked to one side and said, "Whenever you're ready, we can begin."
Julian moved to the opposite end, picked up a Poké Ball from his belt, and nodded, "Let's start, I'm ready."
"Please release your Pokémon, Trainers," announced the referee droid's mechanical voice, startling Julian momentarily.
"Come out, Umbreon!"
Moka sent out Umbreon first, as it was his usual strategy. Regardless of the opponent's Pokémon, Umbreon could effectively counteract them.
If he started with Honchkrow and faced a Pokémon that countered it, things would become challenging. Even switching to Umbreon would expose it to unnecessary attacks.
The cold tone of the referee droid startled Julian initially, causing a brief hesitation before quickly releasing his Pokémon.
"Go, Charmeleon!"
This being Julian's first battle in the Battle Tower, he naturally went all-out, deploying his strongest Pokémon, Charmeleon.
The vibrant orange Charmeleon landed on the battlefield, quickly regaining its composure and displaying its aggressive nature.
Upon emerging, Charmeleon let out a fierce roar towards Umbreon, appearing highly agitated, with the flames on its tail intensifying.
"Charmeleon!"
Moka's expression changed; he now harbored a deep unease around Charmeleons. Whenever he saw one, he couldn't help but recall Kalia's Charmeleon, fearing any false sense of security.
"Eee!" Even Umbreon emitted a determined cry, sharing Moka's apprehension towards Charmeleons even more intensely. The sight of a Charmeleon ignited within it an urge to defeat them fiercely.
This reaction stemmed from the overwhelming despair experienced during recent battles against Lian. Despite Umbreon's relentless efforts and high spirits, each encounter ended swiftly in defeat.
Moka found it peculiar that even Kalia's friend had a Charmeleon. Was there a sudden surge in Charmeleons across the Sebas region?
His expression turned serious, realizing that since Julian's Pokemon was a Charmeleon, he needed to approach this battle with utmost focus and dedication.
"Umbreon, use Quick Attack and Bite." Moka's commands during battles with Kalia had become concise and swift, ensuring rapid execution.
Although Umbreon couldn't yet chain moves as swiftly as Kalia's Charmeleon, its transitions were still remarkably quick.
"Charmeleon, unleash Flamethrower!" Julian spoke, his pace somewhat slow and unremarkable.
Umbreon rapidly sprinted, enveloped in a layer of white light, charging like an arrow released from a bow towards the Charmeleon.
With Quick Attack, Umbreon moved exceptionally fast, while Charmeleon, seemingly unaware of closing the distance, stood in place like a fool, directly launching Flamethrower.
Umbreon effortlessly closed the gap, slamming headfirst into Charmeleon, sending it flying and abruptly halting its Flamethrower attack.
Once Charmeleon regained its balance, it opened its mouth to release Flamethrower again. However, at that moment, Umbreon lunged forward, mouth agape, completely disregarding the incoming Flamethrower.
Umbreon was incredibly excited because during its battles with Lian, it couldn't even touch him, let alone get close despite using Quick Attack.
Now facing a similar Charmeleon, although not Lian himself, allowed Umbreon to vent its pent-up frustration by attacking this opponent.
Umbreon fully endured the Flamethrower without any concern, as it managed to bite firmly onto Charmeleon's shoulder, holding on tightly.
The damage from Flamethrower wasn't as severe as expected, thanks to Umbreon's high Special Defense. Although the Charmeleon had learned Flamethrower prematurely, its Special Attack stat was low, unable to surpass its base stat limit.
As a result, Umbreon sustained minimal injuries, while Charmeleon displayed clear signs of pain once bitten.
"Charmeleon, break free! Use Flamethrower!" Julian urgently commanded.
"So weak?" Moka found it peculiar; it seemed too easy, with just one command leading to Charmeleon enduring the entire move effortlessly.
Accustomed to Kalia's Charmeleon, which always seemed invulnerable and impossible to approach, Moka suddenly felt out of his element with this weaker performance.
Despite being the same species, Kalia's Charmeleon could instantly shove off Umbreon even when bitten. In contrast, Julian's Charmeleon remained trapped, displaying agony as if helpless against its opponent.
After several futile attempts to break free from Umbreon's grip, the intense pain caused by Bite rendered the Charmeleon incapable of retaliating.
"Charmeleon, resist! Get away from it!" Julian was frantic; why couldn't his Charmeleon escape? This predicament prevented him from focusing on executing any moves.
The battle ended unexpectedly quickly. In the next moment, Charmeleon collapsed, unconscious and unable to continue fighting.
"That's it?" Moka was stunned. With just one Quick Attack followed by Bite—strictly speaking, only two moves—the Charmeleon had been defeated.
This scenario eerily resembled Umbreon's earlier battle against Grovyle, where the same combo proved victorious.
"Charmeleon?" Julian was equally bewildered. How did his Charmeleon lose without even launching a counterattack?
Julian now realized that Moka's strength likely surpassed his expectations. Defeating such a powerful Charmeleon so effortlessly made him question how he could possibly compete.
"Your Charmeleon is too weak. Despite being of the same species, Kalia's Charmeleon is ten times stronger!" Moka finally understood that Julian's Charmeleon represented the typical standard for this Pokémon, as most Charmeleons he had encountered were similar to this one.
"Is Kalia truly that strong?" Julian murmured softly. His defeat was swift; he had initially believed his Charmeleon could easily overcome Moka's Pokemon. However, after witnessing Flamethrower have no effect and seeing his Charmeleon knocked out by Umbreon's Bite, he felt disheartened.
"Certainly. Kalia is considered the strongest among the sixth-floor guardians. Send out your second Pokemon." As someone who challenged Kalia daily, Moka knew her capabilities better than anyone else.
"Go, Teddiursa!" With little choice, Julian summoned his second Pokemon, still a Teddiursa, not yet evolved into Ursaring.
"What kind of move is that?" Moka thought he might have misheard. Choosing a Charmeleon made sense due to Kalia's formidable Charmeleon, leading many in the Battle Tower to respect any Charmeleon they faced.
But sending out a Teddiursa? What was the strategy behind that?
