Chapter 135: Chapter 135: Dumb Snorlax
"Next, you." Teacher Jane pointed towards Kalia, having taken note of her due to her impressive written test score.
Kalia stepped forward, surprised that she was second in line, but it worked out well for her. Finishing early would be easy, as enduring thirty seconds against Snorlax seemed quite manageable.
Snorlax is known for its slow speed and extreme laziness, rarely moving due to its cumbersome size, akin to a snail's pace. Its massive body, while distinctive, also serves as a burden.
"Go, Charmeleon! Go, Grovyle!" Kalia tossed two Poké Balls, releasing both Pokémon with a pair of thuds onto the ground.
As Lian landed, he gazed at the towering and obese Snorlax before him, feeling somewhat astonished by its sheer size. This was his first encounter with a Snorlax, and it truly dwarfed him. Despite being tall himself, this Snorlax stood at least one meter taller than him.
Typically, a standing Snorlax reaches just over six feet, but this particular one approached nearly ten feet in height.
However, larger size often means slower movement. To Lian and Grovyle, the Snorlax appeared clumsy and sluggish, making it difficult for it to even touch them.
"Grovyle, run swiftly and use Giga Drain! Charmeleon, charge forward and employ Dragon Rage!" Kalia issued her commands.
Facing off against Snorlax required constant movement, capitalizing on its attack gaps to strike back. With Snorlax's sluggish nature, it would struggle immensely to hit any opponent.
Lian quickly sprinted, surprised to encounter a Snorlax during this assessment - truly an unexpected delight. Known for exceptionally high Stamina, defeating a Snorlax yields substantial Combat Points.
Initially, he thought leaving the Battle Tower would result in fewer Combat Points opportunities, but encountering a Snorlax on his first day was indeed fortuitous.
Snorlax has very high Special Defense, making Special Attack moves less effective; hence, Kalia instructed him to use Dragon Rage for more consistent damage.
At full speed, Lian moved astonishingly fast. Even if given a hundred years, the Snorlax wouldn't have stood a chance of reaching him at that pace.
Although currently struggling to stand, without proper training, Snorlax typically prefers battling while lying down. Normal Snorlaxes are incredibly lethargic, even lazier than Lian used to be.
In the wild, Snorlax primarily ate and slept, with their favorite food being berries. They loved lying beneath fruit trees, waiting for ripe berries to fall within reach.
It was evident that even turning its body was challenging for Snorlax; it could only slightly move its head to spot Lian momentarily before losing sight of him as he swiftly ran behind it.
Dealing with these slow and clumsy Pokemon like Snorlax was incredibly easy. Lian maintained a consistent distance, constantly circling around it, leaving Snorlax disoriented and confused.
On the sidelines, Grovyle also kept running tirelessly. Although not as fast as Lian, it was still swift enough, rendering Snorlax seemingly helpless against them both.
Finally, Snorlax unleashed its attack. With few rocks nearby, it concentrated rock energy to create boulders, hurling them towards Lian—a classic Rock-type move, Rock Slide.
However, given Lian's current speed, there was no way Snorlax could hit him. Most projectiles missed, as Lian had already moved far ahead by then.
Once Snorlax finished its assault, Lian promptly responded with Dragon Rage, unleashing a powerful shockwave that effortlessly struck the Snorlax.
Seizing the opportunity, Grovyle unleashed Giga Drain. With Snorlax's sluggish movement speed, it couldn't dodge and had its energy drained.
Snorlax grew furious.
These two Pokemon were truly infuriating; however, just managing to stand up showcased its training discipline. Its cumbersome body made it nearly impossible to contend against agile, speed-focused Pokemon.
Watching from the sidelines, several Trainers immediately realized how to effectively counter Snorlax: simply keep circling around it.
Teacher Jane was also taken aback by the remarkable speed of this Trainer's Pokemon, especially his Charmeleon. For a new Trainer to possess such a swift Charmeleon was almost unbelievable.
Even if a novice Trainer had a Swellow, it likely wouldn't match this level of swiftness. The Snorlax could barely track its opponents, losing sight of them in the blink of an eye.
"Intriguing." Teacher Jane smiled, confident that this Trainer would easily become a beginner-level Trainer with such prowess. It seemed virtually impossible for him not to succeed with this strength.
However, she wanted to see if these two Pokemon could collectively defeat Snorlax. Despite its bulkiness, her Snorlax boasted formidable offensive capabilities. While her Snorlax could afford multiple missteps, its opponent could only make one mistake.
One successful hit would end the battle, as neither Charmeleon nor Grovyle could withstand Snorlax's attack.
Since Teacher Jane had instructed Snorlax to fight freely, she remained silent, allowing the Pokemon to take control of the battle. As a mid-level Trainer, her Pokemon possessed a certain degree of autonomy.
The stronger the Trainer, the greater the independence their Pokemon exhibit. Beyond following commands, these Pokemon also develop their own strategies during battles.
After Lian struck Snorlax with Dragon Rage, he noticed it barely affected the Pokemon, except for increasing its anger and agitation.
With a Stamina base stat of 160, Snorlax was no joke. Moreover, as Lian's level increased, the effectiveness of Dragon Rage diminished.
Based on his estimation, Snorlax's Stamina ability value must have been at least above 1,800 points. With such high stamina, Dragon Rage would likely require five or six hits to defeat Snorlax.
In reality, if this Snorlax didn't possess the Thick Fat Ability, Lian's Flamethrower would have dealt more damage than Dragon Rage, given his high Special Attack power.
Currently, Lian had reached Level 28, and his Special Attack ability value had already surpassed 1,000. A single Flamethrower would consume at least one-quarter of this Snorlax's total Stamina.
After executing his move, Lian continued sprinting and circled around Snorlax. The slow-witted creature had no effective countermeasure; it could only wildly pound the ground, venting its fury.
Shortly after, Lian landed a second attack on Snorlax. This time, Kalia didn't issue any commands, allowing Lian to act freely. Thirty seconds had long passed, so from now on, anything goes without penalty.
Since Teacher Jane hadn't called for a stop, Kalia let Charmeleon continue unleashing moves at will. Winning or losing against a mid-level Trainer's Pokemon wasn't crucial; their Pokémon were naturally strong, making defeat quite expected.
However, if they won, it would significantly boost their confidence. A mid-level Trainer's Snorlax is formidable, capable of reaching the seventh floor of the Battle Tower—a pinnacle achievement.
Whether due to frustration or exhaustion, the Snorlax suddenly collapsed onto the ground with a loud thud, causing slight tremors beneath their feet.
Lying down, the Snorlax clearly showed no intention of getting back up, instead starting to snore peacefully.
