Chapter 38: CHAPTER 37
037 Pit The Principal! One-Year Vacation
"Unlimited vacation?"
Serena's voice carried a hint of suspicion.
Su Leyan's expression stiffened this was something she couldn't approve. Last time, when she casually promised Qin Yun a long vacation, she never imagined he would actually win the championship.
At the time, Qin Yun's strength was decent, but nothing extraordinary. Su Leyan believed that making it to the top sixteen was already an impressive goal for him.
Winning the whole tournament? She hadn't even considered the possibility.
Yet here they were Qin Yun as the champion and Serena as the runner-up. The reality of their achievements hit her like a well-aimed Hyper Beam, leaving her stunned.
"Cough… That…"
"Could it be that Teacher Su can't approve the vacation?" Qin Yun asked, feigning surprise.
His words left Su Leyan visibly uncomfortable.
"Qin Yun, I really can't approve unlimited vacation," she admitted.
"In that case… was Teacher Su lying to me last time?"
Qin Yun's disappointed expression made her wince. It wasn't that she didn't want to grant his request, but giving a student an entire year off was beyond her authority.
"Qin Yun, there are still about ten months until the final exams. Even after deducting winter break, there are nine months left. That's far too long. I can't agree to that."
She looked genuinely troubled, and Qin Yun knew he was pushing his luck.
His real goal wasn't a full year off he just wanted to maximize his break. His bottom line was securing at least three months.
Seeing Su Leyan's reaction, he decided to push a little further.
"You're a teacher, and you said those words," he continued, watching her hesitate.
She bit her lip, clearly torn.
"Qin Yun, Teacher won't let you down. I'll do my best to get you that vacation… even if I have to pay a price."
That last part caught Qin Yun off guard.
Su Leyan was serious. If the principal refused, she was willing to risk her promotion to make it happen.
She wasn't a professional trainer, but she was a teacher who honored her promises.
Seeing her sincerity, Qin Yun sighed inwardly.
This isn't fun anymore. Teacher Su is too genuine. I was just messing around.
"Teacher Su, forget it," he finally said. "I don't need a whole year. Just grant me three months of vacation, and that's enough."
"Three months?" Su Leyan repeated, relieved. "That's more reasonable. But tell me, why do you need such a long vacation?"
Serena was also curious.
"I want to travel and train," Qin Yun answered simply.
Silence.
Su Leyan and Serena stared at him in shock.
Going on a journey wasn't just difficult it was dangerous. The wild was unpredictable, filled with aggressive Pokémon, rogue trainers, and even criminal organizations like Team Rocket or Team Aqua.
"I don't agree!" Su Leyan said immediately. "It's too dangerous!"
"Teacher Su, every great trainer from the Dragon Kingdom has faced danger," Qin Yun countered.
"Cynthia, Lance, Steven Stone, Lorelei… They all left their homes during their final school year to train."
"But"
"No buts. Becoming a strong trainer isn't easy. It's better to prepare now than to walk into a secret realm unprepared and end up dead."
His words were sharp, but true.
"Qin Yun"
"Well said!"
A hearty voice interrupted them.
Qin Yun didn't even need to look to know who it was.
"Principal Ma!"
Qin Yun, Serena, and Su Leyan turned to greet him respectfully.
Principal Ma was a well-respected educator. He wasn't just an administrator he cared about his students.
"Qin Yun, you're absolutely right. You have my approval!"
"Principal?"
"If you want to be strong, you can't grow in a greenhouse," he said. "Norman once applied for an extended leave for training. It's a path all great trainers take."
He turned to Su Leyan.
"Qin Yun is different from the average student. He requires a different approach. Teaching should be adapted to fit the student."
"The principal is wise," Qin Yun said smoothly, sensing victory.
Principal Ma chuckled. "You little rascal."
Truthfully, he had been impressed with Qin Yun for a while. Even Norman had taken notice of him.
Su Leyan sighed in resignation. It was clear she had lost this argument.
The principal folded his arms. "So, how long are we talking about?"
Qin Yun grinned and held up a single finger.
"A month?"
Principal Ma considered it. "That's a bit long, but reasonable." He turned to Su Leyan. "You're a generous teacher, aren't you? Surely you can approve a month off for our champion?"
He was already halfway convinced.
Qin Yun quickly corrected him.
"Principal, not a month a school year."
The room fell silent.
"…A year?!"
Principal Ma nearly choked.
"Absolutely not!" he snapped. "That's ridiculous!"
"Principal, you did just say you approved my vacation."
"I !"
Principal Ma's face twitched. He had walked right into that one.
Now he was stuck.
Backing down now would make him look weak. His reputation was on the line.
After a long pause, he sighed.
"Fine," he said at last. "You can have your year off. But"
Qin Yun's eyes lit up.
"There's a condition."
"What condition?"
"You'll represent Jiang Cheng No. 3 Middle School in the Petalburg City Spring High School Tournament."
His tone was serious.
Qin Yun smirked.
"Deal."
