Pokémon: Rebron as Red, The Strongest Champion

Chapter 85: Chapter 85: The Silver Prodigy

After a half-hour rest, Alakazam once again enveloped Pikachu in its psychic power, continuing their training to resist telekinetic control.

To truly understand what his partner was going through, Ash had insisted that Alakazam use its power on him as well, so they could overcome the psychic control together.

"That's just like him," Red thought with a smile. "Reckless, but his desire to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with his Pokémon is one of his greatest strengths." He praised his brother softly, careful not to make him too conceited.

"Young Red, while Alakazam is still training Ash and Pikachu, I'll take you to receive your Pokémon," Sabrina's father said.

"Alright," Red nodded in agreement.

"Chan!" Hitmonchan, standing by, also waved its fists, eager to see what kind of Pokémon would be considered so important.

Pushing open the door and entering the Saffron Gym, they saw some staff members still diligently practicing their own psychic abilities, though most had not made significant progress.

Sabrina's father led Red to a room. Pushing the door open, he revealed the usually aloof Sabrina, completely absorbed in a book titled The Beginner's Guide to 100% Successful Romance. A strange, soft smile would occasionally grace her lips as she read, entirely unaware of their arrival.

"Ahem!"

It was her father who couldn't bear it first, knocking on the door to announce their presence.

"Ah—Dad! When did you and Red get here?!"

Sabrina frantically put away the book, her face suddenly turning crimson, her previous cold aura completely vanishing.

"Didn't I bring Red to receive his Pokémon? If you hadn't insisted on giving it to him personally, I would have given the Pokémon to Red ages ago!" her father said helplessly.

"Didn't we agree to keep it a secret!" Sabrina pouted.

"You've changed a lot," Red mused aloud. Perhaps this was the life Sabrina was meant to have, instead of sealing her heart away with psychic powers.

"This is all thanks to your help…" Sabrina's father couldn't help but shed tears of gratitude for Red's intervention; otherwise, the heartwarming scene before them now might have forever remained just a beautiful dream.

"Alright, alright, don't be so sad anymore. Everything has turned out for the better, hasn't it?" At this moment, Sabrina's mother stepped forward, urging her husband to quickly leave and give Red and Sabrina some space. Even Hitmonchan, who was following Red, was reluctantly dragged away by Sabrina's parents.

"Long time no see…" Sabrina said awkwardly, unsure how to start a conversation.

"Not bad, although we just met last night," Red said leisurely.

The conversation instantly died, and an awkward atmosphere permeated every corner of the room. Sabrina's parents, who had left earlier, were secretly hiding in the shadows, quietly watching their daughter's performance.

The atmosphere remained tense for a moment until Sabrina proactively broke the silence. She took out an exquisite gift box and handed it to Red. The bow on top seemed to have been tied by Sabrina herself, making it slightly messy, but Red sensed her goodwill from the small detail and offered a slight, kind smile in return.

"This is a Pokémon for you. I hope you like it," Sabrina said softly.

Red quietly said, "Thank you," unwrapped the gift box, and took out the Poké Ball placed inside.

"Come out, my new partner!"

Red threw the Poké Ball. As the white light dispersed, a Shiny silver Abra appeared in his arms. It seemed to have just woken up, yawning and rubbing its hazy eyes. Just as Red was about to caress its forehead, the Abra's eyes suddenly glowed blue. He used his telekinesis to stop Red's hand, preventing him from touching his forehead. Immediately afterward, he used Teleport, vanishing from Red's embrace.

"This one is a problem child, too," Sabrina explained. "As a Shiny Pokémon, this Abra possessed an extremely strong mind from birth, so unlike typical Abra, it doesn't need to sleep eighteen hours a day. Sometimes it just stays in a corner, muttering to itself, and we don't know what it's saying."

"It seems this one's parents must be at least Kadabra," Red pondered for a moment. "No, with such outstanding talent, its parents must be powerful Alakazam."

"According to my guess, its parents might have abandoned it early on due to its different color. Although its dazzling silver is rare in human eyes, in the eyes of ordinary Pokémon, Shinies are often seen as unnatural, like monsters possessed by some strange power; no Pokémon dares to approach them."

Sabrina told Red about Abra's origins. Her father had accidentally encountered it rummaging through a trash can in an alley. Unable to bear it, he had tried to give Abra some food, but the proud Pokémon refused his offer. Feeling helpless, her father had no choice but to leave.

A few days later, he met Abra again. This time, it was so emaciated that it lay weakly in the alley, having collapsed from hunger. Unable to stand it, her father decided to take it to the Pokémon Center for treatment, but he was met with fierce resistance. Helpless, he had no choice but to send out his Alakazam to battle, forcibly catching the proud Abra in a Poké Ball just so he could get it treatment.

After that, Abra stayed by her father's side, and he meticulously cared for it, but he has never earned its recognition as a trainer. To Abra, he is more of a father figure.

Through Sabrina's story, Red understood the timeline. When her father met Abra, Red had not yet arrived in Saffron City, which meant Sabrina was still in her rampaging phase. It was no wonder the Abra was raised solely by her father.

"This Abra has good talent, but it also indirectly led to its proud personality. If you can't demonstrate strength worthy of its loyalty, it won't acknowledge anyone as its trainer," Sabrina explained.

"Chan!"

Upon hearing this, Hitmonchan could no longer contain its excitement. It burst through the door, waving its fists, and looked at Abra with a gaze full of fighting spirit, intending to test the small Pokémon's strength.

"There's no need to be so nervous, Hitmonchan," Red said, covering his face helplessly. "Abra's current strength isn't enough to battle you. Don't be so excited."

"Chan…"

Hitmonchan, upon hearing this, showed a disappointed expression. It had thought it could show off its skills, but it turned out to be like this.

Abra ignored everyone, muttering to itself in the corner. Hitmonchan, however, stiffened, its eyes widening in disbelief. It could understand the telepathic whispers, and the sheer arrogance was stunning.

'Hmph, foolish mortals,' the thought echoed from the small Pokémon. 'Do you think you can gain my loyalty merely by your appearance? How foolish!'

Abra thought with disdain. If it weren't for Sabrina's father saving its life, it would have run away long ago. Why would it stay in this tiny Saffron Gym?
