Chapter 86: Chapter 86: The Lonely Prince
(Could its personality be…)
Red looked at the Shiny Abra in surprise, feeling like he was starting to understand. His mind automatically called up its information.
Pokémon: Abra (Shiny: Silver)
Type: Psychic
Ability: Magic Guard (Prevents all indirect damage, such as from status conditions or entry hazards.)
Known Moves: Teleport, Confusion
Personality: Optimistic and positive, with an aloof nature that hides a whimsical, fantastical worldview.
Experience Introduction: Its parents were powerful Alakazam. Its outstanding psychic potential intimidated its peers, and its shiny silver color led to it being seen as a strange, unnatural creature. Under pressure from their clan, its parents chose to abandon it. But Abra was not sad; instead, it told itself that this was just a trial on its path to becoming stronger, always holding the naive belief that strength would make its family accept it. After accidentally witnessing the dramatic flair of a street performer, it became infatuated with the fantasy of a more beautiful world.
Red shook his head with pity. In his opinion, it wasn't always that Shiny Pokémon were born with exceptional talent, but rather that after being abandoned, they were forced to become strong just to survive. According to his guess, even if Shiny Pokémon were rare, they wouldn't be as rare as one in ten thousand. Most were probably "forgotten" by the world because they couldn't survive alone in the wild.
While Red was still considering how to handle his new Pokémon, Hitmonchan, who was standing behind him, had already had enough of Abra's continuous telepathic taunts. It rushed forward, intending to use Comet Punch to show this newcomer the prowess of a senior. Although Hitmonchan had only just joined Red's team, in terms of seniority, it had only been about three hours…
'Foolish creature, do you not understand the gap between us?' Abra mocked, using Teleport to evade Hitmonchan's attack.
Although the room was not small, the furniture restricted Hitmonchan's movement. In contrast, Abra could use its familiarity with the terrain to teleport to any corner, easily teasing the fighter.
"Alright. You two will be good partners from now on; don't make the relationship so tense," Red said, stopping them.
Upon hearing his command, Hitmonchan wisely stopped its attack. Abra still wanted to continue teasing the fighter, but Red directly used his own psychic power to forcefully control it in place.
(This immense psychic power… could this man be the legendary Sorcerer King?)
Abra, controlled by Red's power, tried to struggle but found that its own mind could not resist. It looked at Red in shock, its eyes revealing surprise and longing, already imagining Red as a powerful character from one of its fantasies.
'Please allow me to offer my fealty to you, great Sorcerer King!'
Seeing Abra had calmed down, Red released the restraint. Unexpectedly, the small Pokémon walked directly in front of him and knelt on one knee, performing a perfect knight's salute.
"It seems you have already gained his recognition, Red," Sabrina congratulated, seeming happier than if she had earned Abra's loyalty herself.
"It seems my choice was correct!" Seeing that Sabrina and Red weren't developing their conversation further, her father simply reappeared in front of them with his wife. "Our family only partners with one Abra in our lifetime. Even if we are accidentally separated, we will never look for a new partner. Fortunately, you appeared in time, Red. Otherwise, I would still be very conflicted about this child's future," he explained.
"Don't worry. Although this one's personality is unexpectedly… whimsical, I will train Abra well," Red promised.
Late that night, to soothe Abra's inner loneliness, Red let the small Pokémon out of its Poké Ball. He held Abra as they both went to sleep. The small Pokémon, held in Red's arms, did not struggle, appearing unexpectedly quiet and obedient.
(Such a warm feeling… Dad… Mom… I miss you so much…)
And so, Red and Abra gradually fell into a dream, and there was no sound for the rest of the night.
The next day, a high-spirited Ash and Pikachu, along with their traveling companions Misty and Brock, arrived confidently at the Saffron Gym.
After two days of training, Ash and Pikachu had figured out Alakazam's general weaknesses and planned to successfully obtain the Marsh Badge from Sabrina's father today.
"Ash's confident look is definitely the most familiar," Brock smiled.
"Yes, although he's usually a bit reckless, he's surprisingly confident in battle," Misty praised.
"Hey, Misty, are you praising me or putting me down?" Ash said with a helpless expression.
The trio arrived at the Saffron Gym's arena. What greeted their eyes was a silver Abra being pressured by the Millennium Gengar's psychic power, with Red standing by, providing training guidance.
"Are these all my brother's Pokémon?" Ash asked in surprise, quickly pulling out his trusted Pokédex and scanning Abra and Gengar.
"Abra, the Psi Pokémon. It sleeps for eighteen hours a day. Even when asleep, it uses various psychic powers."
"Gengar, the Shadow Pokémon. If you suddenly feel a chill, it means Gengar is near you, and it might have already placed a curse on you."
"Wow, it can even place a curse?!" Ash said, a little unnerved. Pikachu, on his shoulder, shivered as well.
"Don't worry, this guy doesn't have that many bad intentions," Red explained.
"Exactly! Who writes these Pokédex entries? It's pure slander! I've always been an easygoing Pokémon. How could I secretly curse people?!" the Millennium Gengar said angrily. It was just helping train Abra, so why was it being inexplicably slandered by Ash?
(At most, I'd curse them openly, hehehe…)
"It can even talk!" Ash, Misty, and Brock exclaimed in surprise simultaneously.
"Aren't you used to Team Rocket's Meowth by now?" Red said speechlessly. "It's just talking, is there really a need to be so excited?"
"By the way, we haven't encountered Team Rocket these past two days," Ash said doubtfully, his tone inexplicably showing a bit of nostalgia. After all, Team Rocket usually appeared daily; not seeing them for two days felt quite strange.
The reason Team Rocket had disappeared was thanks to Red. Once he appeared in Ash's travel party, the trio wisely took a day off for themselves, enjoying a rare, well-funded holiday. Sometimes, they even wished Red would appear by Ash's side every day. It gave them a perfect excuse for a comfortable vacation where they could actually have a good meal, instead of racking up another debt from a failed plan. It was, simply put, a joy.
