Chapter 123 - Title: "Team Rocket Can Do It, But I Can't?"

With Gary joining, the Kanto Division had gained another member.

To celebrate, Asahi even hosted a small banquet.

As a gift for Gary's induction, Asahi gave him a box of energy cubes he had made himself.

They weren't particularly valuable—just a token of appreciation.

Green, on the other hand, gave him a notebook filled with insights on Pokémon evolution and tips for quickly mastering moves post-evolution.

After a hearty dinner, Asahi sat in the living room, giving Gary a rundown of things to keep in mind as a Kanto Division member:

"This is a secure communicator. Any confidential information should be discussed through this… Hold on, let me add you to the action group chat first."

Holding the communicator, Gary quickly noticed that he had been added to a group chat named "Team Rocket Special Task Force."

Aside from him, there were only three other members.

The group owner, "Gardevoir is the Best," was obviously Asahi.

The member "Jigglypuff is the Cutest"… Gary glanced at Green, who was playing cards with her Jigglypuff, and figured that was her.

But the last member, "Psychic User"—who was that?

Did their division have a psychic?

Curious, Gary turned to Asahi and asked.

"Oh, don't worry about her. She won't be showing up in the organization for now. As for her identity… well, the nickname says it all—she's a psychic."

Hearing this, Gary's interest was piqued. He was planning to challenge the Saffron Gym soon and had heard that its Gym Leader, Sabrina, was extremely strong.

He had been struggling to figure out how to win the Marsh Badge.

But now that their division had a psychic, maybe he could get some pointers.

As a fellow psychic, they might have unique strategies for dealing with other psychics—this could boost his chances of winning.

At this moment, Gary felt that joining the Kanto Division had been the right choice.

After chatting about some amusing Ash-related stories, Gary said his goodbyes and left—heading back to Saffron City to meet up with his girlfriends.

Walking down the street, Gary suddenly realized something.

Would joining the International Police mean he had to break up with his girlfriends?

That… would be a real shame.

He had paid them to accompany him through the Indigo League. If he dismissed them now, that money would be wasted.

The next morning, Asahi was woken up by the sound of his phone ringing.

"You recruited a new member yesterday?"

Still groggy, Asahi instinctively replied, "Oh, you mean Gary? Yeah, why?"

"Did you tell him to message me and ask how to defeat 'Sabrina, the Saffron Gym Leader'?"

"Ah… huh!?"

Hearing this, Asahi snapped awake, his expression turning odd.

He hadn't expected Gary to actually ask Sabrina how to beat… Sabrina.

As far as he remembered, he hadn't revealed her identity—just that she was a psychic.

Was that why?

"So, what did you tell him…?" Asahi asked curiously.

"Hmph…"

Sabrina simply snorted.

But that alone was enough for Asahi to understand her response.

Sigh… Gary, you could've just asked me. I could've gotten a badge from Sabrina for you if necessary.

But no—you had to go ask her directly.

All Asahi could do was silently pray for Gary.

Of course, Gary's situation was just a minor incident. Sabrina wouldn't have called just for that.

"What's your plan regarding Articuno?" she asked.

She was calling because of the mission Giovanni had assigned her. Since she had already betrayed Team Rocket, she didn't mind betraying them even more.

Asahi hadn't expected Sabrina to be so proactive. It caught him a little off guard.

Thinking for a moment, he replied, "Since Giovanni wants you to capture Articuno, then go ahead and do it."

"…Huh?"

Sabrina was momentarily stunned. She had expected Asahi to tell her to sabotage the mission.

She didn't expect him to actually let her carry it out.

"Aren't you worried about Articuno falling into Team Rocket's hands?" she asked.

Asahi replied, "Well, considering that the captured Articuno is supposed to be handed over to you… how would that be Team Rocket's possession? Clearly, it'll belong to our Kanto Division."

"Besides, we don't know if the Articuno you're after is one of the Legendary Birds or just a regular Articuno. If it's the latter, that's fine… But if it's the former, I don't think this operation will succeed."

The power displayed by that baby Lugia with the Flight Plate was still fresh in his memory.

If this was a true Legendary Bird, then unless Sakaki himself got involved, Sabrina alone wouldn't be enough.

And even an ordinary adult Articuno wouldn't be easy to deal with.

Sabrina didn't argue.

Even though Team Rocket had various technologies to suppress Pokémon's strength, no one could claim to have a 100% success rate when dealing with Legendary Pokémon.
