Chapter 7 - The Beginning of Misunderstanding
Rewinding time a little, just before the professor had dinner with Aisha.
“Ugh…”
A beastperson woke up in the room.
It was the wolf who had briefly fainted, falling victim to the professor’s sudden frenzy.
“Damn that crazy bastard…”
Those eyes were filled with burning hatred.
Not content with forcibly feeding her unidentified meat that was likely abnormal, he had toyed with her entire body.
She could still feel his disgusting breath on her nape.
“Damn it! This damn… son of a bitch!”
Strictly speaking, she was closer to a dog herself.
But swearing isn’t something you do while considering such things.
Since there wasn’t much else she could do besides expressing her anger.
Her mind actively encouraged her to be angry.
“Grr… I’ll bite, tear. I’ll rip him apart… Definitely, my teeth on his neck…?”
While expressing her anger towards the professor, something caught her eye.
The open door of the cage.
“…..”
She quietly got up and lightly touched it.
The cage swung open without any resistance, granting her the freedom to roam outside.
‘What? Why is it open?’
Even she looked a bit dazed, not expecting it to actually open.
But that was only for a moment.
Her expression was soon dyed with anger again.
She remembered the existence of the slave imprint.
Thinking it was opened to mock her who couldn’t leave anyway, her anger boiled even more.
“Aaargh! That damned bastard!”
She imagined a future of being violated by him day after day, waiting to be sacrificed.
She vividly remembered the touch of hands caressing her ears and tail.
Recalling that gentle yet rough touch again made her nauseous.
But, as they say, extremes meet.
When her anger reached its limit, paradoxically, she was able to calm down.
‘Wait… If I use this situation well, couldn’t I trick the imprint?’
The fact that the order he gave her was presumably ‘Don’t go out of the cage.’
And the situation where he left the cage open.
She thought she could circumvent the order by reasoning ‘This outing is allowed by the master, so it’s okay.’
Of course, it could fail.
But it might be a chance to escape.
‘If I succeed in escaping, it’s fine, but if I fail…’
Her remaining life would become so miserable and painful that it would be better to die.
Should she struggle and die?
Or obey quietly and live miserably a little longer?
Naturally, she chose to struggle.
It’s just a difference of sooner or later, if she’s going to die anyway.
Shouldn’t she bet on the side with even a small chance of survival?
—Creak…
The cage opened completely.
However, from now on is important.
There was no guarantee that he had been idle while she was unconscious.
‘I don’t know what will happen the moment I step out of the cage.’
An alarm might go to him.
She might die as soon as she steps out, or something even more terrible than death might happen.
Of course, she was already prepared.
-Tap
Finally, her foot that she stretched out with utmost caution touched the floor.
‘…What? Nothing happened?’
Nothing happened.
Of course, this was natural since the professor hadn’t installed anything in the first place.
But the wolf, not knowing this, once again fueled her anger towards the professor, thinking he had underestimated her.
‘Did he think I would just quietly wait for him to come back in the cage? Ha, not funny at all.’
After looking around the room for a moment and confirming there were no traps, she moved her steps towards the only exit of the room.
She didn’t let her guard down.
Rather, she tensed up even more and put strength into her body.
This was natural since the imprint had activated just before opening the door earlier.
She carefully grabbed the doorknob.
‘Did I succeed?!’
As if her plan to circumvent the order had worked, the imprint remained quiet.
Encouraged by this, she applied force to her arm and opened the door—
“@#…%%#…”
“@%₩#^#”
“…!”
At the sound of voices coming through the opened door, her tail stood on end.
‘Damn, did he notice and post a guard…!’
The wolf, frozen in the position of opening the door.
Quietly, she listened to the sounds.
One was a woman’s voice she had never heard before.
The other was… the damn enemy who had just shamed her.
‘Am I caught? No.’
At first, she thought they were waiting in anticipation of her escape because she heard the professor’s voice.
But even as time passed, they didn’t approach the door.
Rather, they seemed not to care at all.
‘It’s fortunate I wasn’t discovered, but escape seems impossible with that bastard there.’
Even so, it seemed difficult to slip out quietly even if she wasn’t discovered, as long as the professor was there.
With the mindset of at least gathering information, she started eavesdropping on their conversation.
“……about to fall off…”
The wolf, who was about to start eavesdropping in earnest, felt something strange.
She had thought it was just her imagination earlier, but the sound was definitely odd.
There was no way a beastperson’s ears couldn’t pick up sounds from such a short distance.
Her worry that her ears might have been affected by long confinement was short-lived.
“This… This is…!”
“Professors… room… soundproofed…”
‘Tsk, it was a soundproofing spell.’
Looking around the room again after hearing their words, indeed, she could see the flow of mana enveloping the entire room.
Focusing only on finding traps, she had been late in noticing the magic cast on the room itself.
The reason she could hear even a little was probably because she had opened the door slightly.
If she could see with her eyes, she might be able to read their lip movements.
But if she opened the door any more, they would notice her too.
Inevitably, she decided to listen, filling in the inaudible parts as best she could.
The fact that they were having a conversation in a soundproofed place.
It also meant that it was talk that shouldn’t be heard by others.
If she was lucky, she might be able to learn about their numbers or weaknesses.
‘By the way, professors…’
Dark magician.
A soundproofed room.
Professors.
As various pieces of information came together in her head, the outline of their plan emerged.
‘This is indeed an academy, and dark magicians have infiltrated as professors… But why?’
It felt like she could reach the truth if she dug a little deeper.
But one piece was missing.
Just as she was about to sink into thought, clutching her head to find the missing piece.
Strange sounds started to be heard from outside.
-Sizzle!!!
The terrible sound like flesh being seared by fire and the smell that wafted in…
Was exactly the same as the meat that had been placed in front of her just before.
‘Why on earth are they doing that directly… Could it be?’
The two words ‘ritual’ popped into her head.
Rituals basically need to be done formally with an altar set up.
But for highly skilled dark magicians, it’s possible to do them in a simplified manner.
‘Dark magicians gathering to eat the flesh of humans they’ve killed could also be considered a simple ritual.’
Which means, the woman participating in that disgusting act must also be a dark magician.
One with skills good enough to participate in a simple ritual.
‘No, maybe…’
Judging by the expression ‘professors’, the possibility that this entire academy might be a den of dark magicians couldn’t be ruled out.
“From now on… will be busy… academy…”
They kept talking while putting the blood and flesh of victims into their disgusting mouths.
Although most of the words were inaudible due to the soundproofing spell, fortunately, all the important words were heard.
Through this, she could guess their purpose.
‘Dark magicians are targeting this academy.’
They are preparing a plan to sacrifice me, a cursed child, and then use that as a starting point to sacrifice everyone here.
An unprecedented large-scale ritual using numerous people as sacrifices in a huge place like an academy.
Although she didn’t know what results it would bring, she could at least guess that it wouldn’t be beneficial to this world.
It’s not that she had any lingering attachment to this world, but she didn’t want to die as a sacrifice for dark magicians.
‘I must stop this somehow.’
Many dark magicians would have already infiltrated the academy.
But.
As much as they were preparing for a large-scale ritual here, there must also be many who are not in cahoots with them.
‘Somehow, I need to contact them and inform them of this fact.’
It won’t be easy.
If caught by them, there’s no telling what would happen.
Nevertheless, it must be done.
For me to live.
…And as a bonus, I wanted to see the face of that damn bastard when his plan gets royally screwed up.
‘For now, the first priority is to make them let their guard down. If I somehow act like a harmless sacrifice, an opportunity will surely come.’
With the slave imprint, it should be easy to make them lower their guard like today.
Then, when they’re not watching due to that lowered guard, I’ll sneak out.
And inform someone who’s not a dark magician about their plan.
She closed the door and went back into the cage.
After making the cage look exactly the same as before, as if she had never left.
She quietly steeled her resolve.
‘The humiliation I suffered today, I’ll definitely pay it back. I’ll make you regret not killing me then…’
I’ll strangle you while watching your face despair as your plan comes to nothing.
How much time had passed?
He opened the door and entered the room.
“…..”
“The smell of blood is overwhelming. Did you come back after disposing of someone?”
Thinking that a sudden change in attitude would raise suspicion, she acted similarly to before.
“…..”
“What are you looking at? If it weren’t for the imprint, you—”
“Whitey.”
“What?”
“From now on, you’re Whitey.”
“?”
What does he mean by ‘from now on, you’re Whitey’…
“Hey, you son of a—!”
“Heck! Heck!”
-Swish swish
“As I thought, I knew you’d like it.”
I look forward to our future together.
Whitey.
