Chapter 266: Mental Integrity Absorption, And Evolution
Alene let out a chuckle.
"Do you think this is some questionnaire? Just get it over with," she said flatly. "You dealt how much? 2.63 trillion soul damage to Jashin?"
She scoffed. "That's nothing. The only reason he was even hurt at all was because that idiot was too lazy to reinforce his soul. On the other hand... I won't take as much damage, so just do it."
"And how are you so sure I'm not just going to kill your daughters straight after I kill this avatar of yours?" Rael asked.
"Because you won't," Alene replied flatly. "If you do, then I'm going to do everything in my power to hunt your wife. I won't stop until I kill them, and even if my soul is extinguished, I will make sure my remnants finish her off. That is a promise."
His brows furrowed since he noticed she wasn't lying.
I could just erase her memory of Zafira though...
At the same time, his eyes slightly lit up in a golden light, then faded back to the regular crimson.
He didn't notice it at all, so he decided to try out the idea he had.
Rael's fingers rested on her forehead, and in the next moment, he imagined her mental integrity traveling into him.
To his surprise, it worked.
<Alene Grandeur's Mental Integrity: 277% → 177%>
<Mental Integrity: 1,911% → 2,011%>
<Ding!>
<Alene Grandeur's Mental Integrity has fallen drastically!>
<You may overtake her body, or trap her in an endless nightmare to harvest her stats!>
<Choose...>
His smile widened as he reached for the endless nightmare option, but when he pressed it, nothing happened.
The mind realm suddenly turned darker, so much so that it seemed like every single Chop-E that had been surrounding them vanished.
He wasn't sure what was going on, except for the fact that with each passing moment, Alene's movements slowed down until eventually, she vanished just like the Chop-Es.
Hmm...? Did I do some stupid shit again? Rael thought, looking around.
He wasn't expecting to see anything of interest, and yet, a distant eyeball surprised him.
It was completely black, and it resembled the Beast's eye that he had eaten before he was thrust into this world.
Soon, a couple more eyes spawned, covering the entire mindscape as though they were stars.
He was puzzled by what was happening, but before he could ponder further, a single pop-up descended right in front of him.
<Congratulations!>
<Primordial Sight (Mythic+) has reached the MAX level!>
<Do you wish to evolve the skill? Yes / No>
<Warning!>
<The following item will be consumed...>
—Fragment of the Beast's Eye (Rare) (Soulbound)
A fragment of the [Supreme Beast Set.] Once all fragments are collected, you shall receive the item: Core of ### (Supreme) (Soulbound).
Current Progress: 1/10 Fragments Collected.
<Ding!>
<Evolution altered...>
<You will no longer consume the item upon evolving the skill!>
A loading bar appeared in the sky, puzzling Rael further.
That eye was something he kept inside his inventory for a while, but he never had a use for it.
Heck, he'd expected to only use it once he collected 9 other parts, but even after all this time, he'd only managed to get one, and that was at the start.
And when the loading bar finally filled up, he saw another bout of pop-ups, except these ones were a bit more surprising.
<Skill evolution has been fully altered!>
<Upon evolving the skill, you will absorb [Fragment of the Beast's Eye (Rare)] into your body, enhancing your abilities and unlocking a latent bloodline. The fragment gathering process will not be interrupted, and whenever a new fragment is found, it may be absorbed into the Primordial Sight skill. Once all 10 fragments are collected, the user will undergo a drastic transformation.>
<Do you wish to proceed with such an upgrade? Yes / No>
He read through it a couple of times, and only then did he make his decision.
However, one thing did confuse him.
Latent bloodline? I had a bloodline? And this eye thingy is going to unlock it? Huh...
He certainly didn't mind a power-up, but he just wondered if right now was a good time—
<You are currently in a static realm. Time does not pass. Proceed or deny the upgrade at your discretion.>
"You can hear me?" Rael asked, startled. "Wait... I do remember you responding to me from time to time... I thought I was just imagining it. So who are you, anyways?"
The moment he finished his words, silence ensued, and it only lasted a few moments as another pop-up appeared.
<You have insufficient authority to request that information.>
"Alright... then how about... how long have you been with me?"
<You have insufficient authority to request that information.>
"..." Rael rubbed his temples. Let's try something a bit simpler.
"The latent bloodline bit... did it belong to this body? Before I took it over, I mean."
An empty pop-up appeared, but it soon began to fill with information.
<That body and its bloodline have always been yours.>
"Haa? And how does that work exactly?"
<You have insufficient authority to request that information.>
"Tsk..." Rael rolled his eyes, then he asked another question.
"How do I find the other fragments?"
<...>
<You must explore the Inner Void Realm. Minimum Recommended level: Grade 4 | King Class.>
Rael tilted his head. "Do you mean the Depths?"
<The Depths are only a fraction of the Inner Void.>
He let out a sigh. "But there are other fragments in the Depths, right?"
<You have insufficient authority to request that information.>
"...How do I increase my authority?"
<Absorb the fragments.>
Rael felt a headache forming, but for his own sake, he put it aside and wrapped it up.
"Why was the first fragment given to me so soon?"
It was one of the few questions he figured the system might actually answer, and, unsurprisingly, it only gave him more vagueness in return.
<That fragment was meant to be given to you the moment you arrived in this world, but because of external interference, we were only able to give it to you through a memory remn—>
<You have insufficient authority to request that information.>
"Hmm...?"
We were only able to give it to you through a memory remnant? Is that what it was trying to say? Rael thought, conflicted.
That meant the memory had always existed inside his mind, as did the bloodline, and apparently this body too.
It was always his.
He wanted to think about it more, but before he could, he suddenly lost vision in his right eye.
At the same time, his body grew groggy as his consciousness slowly faded.
<Primordial Sight (Mythic+) is being forcefully evolved!>
<Warning!>
<The user will temporarily enter a slumber...>
