Chapter 87: Death door
Hades had sensed it ever since his meeting with Samarella.
Why would a Primordial Being carry such deep hatred for him? Hatred so strong she was willing to throw away her own life just to see him dead. Whoever Hades had been in the past, he must have left her with a wound too great to forget.
He had heard the ancient tale—the one spoken in whispers. The war of a thousand years ago. The war between dragons that nearly wiped out every race.
And at the center of it all stood the one who bore the greatest sin.
The Primordial Dragon of Chaos.
Pieces clicked together in Hades's mind, and the truth became clear.
"The Primordial who brought ruin greater than anyone had ever imagined. A calamity no one foresaw. A being who lived for chaos itself. That's who I was…isn't it?" Hades asked, his voice steady.
The woman before him lowered her head. "You are correct, Young Master. You are the reincarnation of the deity we serve. Please accept my greetings."
Hades exhaled slowly. "You said my mother sent you here. Did she know where I was all this time?"
The woman raised her head and gave an answer that caught him off guard. "She never lost sight of you, Young Master. From afar, she has watched you grow."
Hades frowned. 'What?'
Luna's brows furrowed, her voice sharp. "Why from afar? Why did she abandon him?"
The woman's tone was polite, yet heavy. "The Matriarch was always under watch. The Young Master's birth shook the world—every dragon knew their deity had returned. To protect you, she had no choice but to send you away."
Hades had suspected as much. From the day of his awakening, the voice inside told him the truth—thousands out there viewed him as a threat, and they would do anything to erase him. Naturally, every eye had remained fixed on his mother, waiting for a chance to seize him.
"So…" Hades murmured, "she stayed away to keep me safe. But what changed now? Did they give up?"
The woman's eyes lowered to the floor. "The Matriarch believes it is time. Time for you to face the threats that await you."
Luna's breath caught. "You don't mean—"
The woman raised her gaze and confirmed her fear. "I am here to take the Young Lord back…to the world where he truly belongs."
Hades's face darkened. He had expected this moment—but not so soon.
Hades glanced at the girl beside him and caught her uneasy gaze.
Pushing himself up, he said quietly, "Give me a minute."
He led Luna outside, where Beatrice was already waiting.
"Hades," she called softly, worry in her tone, "...what does she want? I couldn't hear a single word."
Hades gave a faint, wry smile. A barrier, most likely. That woman hadn't wanted anyone else to overhear.
"It's nothing dangerous," he assured her. "You can rest, Beatrice."
But the Queen shook her head. "She seems… important. I should—"
"Beatrice." Hades gently placed his hand on her shoulder, giving it a reassuring squeeze. "Peri needs you more right now. I promise, this guest won't mind if you don't greet her. Please, get some rest."
Beatrice hesitated, then lowered her head with a soft nod. "...Alright."
Ralph, watching from nearby, could hardly believe it. The Queen of all people—so composed, so unyielding—was acting docile before this human.
Luna noticed it too. The shift between them was subtle, but unmistakable. They had grown closer.
Still, the silver-haired girl pushed aside her thoughts. Now wasn't the time. There were far heavier matters at hand.
When they had put enough distance between themselves and the tent, Luna finally spoke, her voice sharp with concern. "Please don't tell me you're actually considering going with her."
Hades let out a long sigh. He placed his hands gently on her shoulders, steadying her. "Luna… I've hidden nothing from you. You know the dangers tied to me. But this isn't a path I can avoid. That doesn't mean I'll ever force you to follow me."
Luna bit her lip hard. His answer was already clear. He was going with that woman.
Her next words came out quieter, almost pleading. "Can't you train here? Can't you stay in the human realm?"
Hades drew in a deep breath and exhaled slowly. "I could… but it wouldn't be enough. Not at the pace I need. I still know so little about myself—about how to awaken and strengthen my core. In that realm, I'll have the means to grow faster. Stronger."
His brows furrowed as he added, almost to himself, "And… I want to know my real family. There are questions only they can answer."
Luna's shoulders slumped, her voice trembling. "So… you're not going to change your mind, huh?"
Hades met her downcast eyes, the weight in them heavier than words could carry.
"Luna," he whispered, cupping her cheeks gently, "sooner or later, everyone will learn who I truly am. And when that happens… they'll abandon the Pact with the Sage and come for me. I'll have nowhere left to run."
Luna's throat tightened. She understood. She always did. But still—"That place is crawling with people who want you dead. It's like you're walking straight through death's door."
Hades gave a small nod. "You're right… which is why I need you to think about whether you want to come—"
"There's nothing to think about, Hades." Luna cut him off, her voice firm despite the tears welling in her eyes. She placed her hand over his, pressing his palm against her cheek as if to anchor herself. "Where Hades goes… Luna follows."
The resolve in her words silenced him.
Hades stared at her for a long moment, torn between love and anxiety. She wasn't just choosing to stand beside him—she was choosing to risk everything.
He embraced her in his arms, and whispered, "Thank you."
Luna hummed, enjoying the warmth as she said, "But before leaving, I want to meet grandma."
Hades nodded, "Let's do that. We will get her blessings as well."
