Rebirth: Leading Families to Survive in the Apocalypse

Chapter 189: Chance Encounter

Jian Zongzheng looked at the juniors who had already resigned themselves to their fate and helplessly shook his head. He didn’t want to run anymore either, and there might be even more zombies ahead. If death was inevitable, it might as well be a bit easier.

But before he died, he wanted to take a few zombies down with him, as his contribution to humanity.

“Alright, since you all have decided, then let’s make our last stand together and fight until our last breath!”

The guy wearing the safety helmet pulled a blood-stained baseball bat from his backpack and stood next to Jian Zongzheng and Yin Qiu.

Seeing this, Anna also put away her compact mirror and pushed Xiaoai next to everyone.

The guy in the orange hoodie smiled too, picked up the axe in his hand, and stood over.

Having comrades by your side before dying meant the journey wasn’t lonely.

At that moment, a small horde of zombies had already traced the smell of blood and living humans and was coming their way. They hadn’t eaten for many days and seemed exceptionally excited, their running speed noticeably faster.

“It’s over, we won’t even get the chance to turn into zombies, they’ll probably just tear us into pieces,” Anna said dazedly as she watched the zombies.

“If only we had some explosives. You could just push me in there, and I’d detonate the bomb, wiping us all out together,”

After Zhang Xiaoai finished speaking, he sighed, remembering those heroes he had learned about in textbooks who sacrificed themselves for justice. They were luckier than he was, at least they had some explosives to use, much better equipment than what these people had.

“Silly Xiaoai, with your slow movements, you’d be torn apart before you even set it off,” the guy in the hoodie said with a laugh.

“Jian Zongzheng”

Anna called out to the tall guy standing in the middle.

“Hmm?”

“I’ve liked you for a long time,”

“…”

Before he could respond, the zombies had already started climbing over the makeshift wall built from old cars.

“Oh, a love confession,”

The hoodie guy joked as he chopped off the head of a zombie crawling through a gap with his axe.

“Fine, I’ll be your boyfriend,”

Jian Zongzheng said with a smile, then used his Metal Element Ability to stab a metal rod through a zombie’s mouth.

Anna wiped the tears off her face, lifted her proud head, and let out a laugh, feeling that Jian Zongzheng really got a bargain—it was his good looks that did it, after all. ℞ÀℕO𝐛ЁS

“Get lost, ah ah, don’t make me jealous,”

Yin Qiu almost died of jealousy, messing up his own abilities, but managed to knock down a street billboard, crushing four or five zombies.

“There you go, Yin Qiu, thumbs up for you,”

Xiaoai, hiding inside a shopping cart, extended her thumb up. Although she was injured and crouching inside the cart, her hands were relentlessly stabbing at the zombies trying to crawl in with a fruit knife.

Everyone laughed, Yin Qiu’s move had bought them a few more seconds.

But soon they were not laughing anymore—the sound of the falling billboard attracted zombies from all around, and even a Fire Element Zombie came running out from a left alley.

“Yin Qiu, watch out!”

Jian Zongzheng tore off a car door and used it to block the flames sprayed by the Fire Element Zombie.

“Thanks,”

Yin Qiu thanked him and then sent a Wind Blade towards the Fire Element Zombie!

Zombies from all directions enclosed the group in the middle of the street, everyone standing back to back with Zhang Xiaoai sitting in the shopping cart at the center.

Already resigned to their fate, the trapped group did not lose hope but fought valiantly with everything they could find against the zombies.

At that moment, a Fire Element Zombie conjured a massive fireball, attempting to scatter the group!

Suddenly, a green vine, coming from nowhere, caught the fireball mid-air and successfully blocked this deadly attack for them!

Following the vine’s path, they were stunned to see an impressive armored vehicle with a man and a woman standing on top, the vine clearly controlled by the beautiful young woman.

“She’s so beautiful!”

Anna stared at the girl on the car roof, utterly spellbound.

Although the young woman simply tied her hair into a ponytail, her skin was as pale as snow, her eyes clear as pools of water, radiating an aura of ethereal purity. At that moment, her pale face was expressionless as she controlled several long vines that whipped towards the Fire Element Zombie!

Then, the Fire Element Zombie shifted its focus from Yin Qiu and Jian Zongzheng to the two on the vehicle, drawn more towards the brains of these Advanced Special Ability Users.

“Su Jin, leave this one to me—you guys go rescue the others!” Lin Xiuyuan blocked the Fire Element Zombie’s path and punched it in the face.

“Roar!”

The Fire Element Zombie was knocked to the ground by Lin Xiuyuan’s punch but quickly got up and launched an attack!

Meanwhile, Su Jin, Lu Hao, Su Xiangzhe, and Huang Yunxiang had plunged into combat.

Jian Zongzheng and the others, witnessing the Special Ability Users evidently poised in a protective formation in front of them, felt a mix of shock and gratitude. Despite their initial readiness to die, now a strong desire to live surged through them.

Seeing that they had helpers, they didn’t run away or wait passively. Instead, they joined the fight alongside the others, confirming to Su Jin and company that their rescue had not been in vain.

They had decided to come back to rescue these people because Mao Qiqi mentioned that these individuals had been surrounded by zombies for a while and were still persistently fighting. It was only after passing by that they decided to turn the vehicle around and come back.

Now, it seemed that their decision was indeed the right one.

“Beautiful, what’s your name?”

Anna flirted, stabbing a zombie with a steel pipe as she spoke.

“Su Jin”

“Nice to meet you, I’m Anna”

Seeing this, Lu Hao used a fireball to knock down a group of zombies, then pulled Su Jin to his side.

Anna: …

At that moment, Mao Qiqi, along with Nie Qing and Lu Guanhai, also came down from the vehicle and joined the battle.

While Nie Qing and Lu Guanhai had been watching TV in the Space Element, Mao Qiqi rushed in to update them on the outside situation. The two immediately left the Space Element and saw the ongoing fight outside.

Jian Zongzheng and Yin Qiu were even more shocked; how were even the elderly and children joining in?!

But a few minutes later, they realized these elderly and children were extraordinarily capable.

Hovering mid-air, Nie Qing effortlessly unleashed Wind Balls and Wind Blades, each move striking directly at the zombies’ heads.

Though Mao Qiqi was not tall, she handled the Watermelon Knife with exceptional agility against adult zombies, leveraging her momentum to leap and decapitate a zombie in one swing.

What dazzled them most was the Special Abilities of Su Jin and Lu Hao. Lu Hao drew his Tang Sword, which instantly enveloped in dark flames, slashing forward at the zombies!

Boom!

Ten or so zombies had their heads cleaved by the fiery sword wind and fell at the sound.

Su Jin’s Wood Element Ability was also awe-inspiring. It was their first time seeing someone use the Wood Element to kill zombies; each move was deadly, good for defense, and allowed for long-range attacks.

Wasn’t this too useful?

Su Xiangzhe’s Thunder Element Ability was also quite spectacular, a Thunder Ball for each zombie, and when combined with the Water Arrows fired by Huang Yunxiang, they eliminated several more advancing zombies!
