Chapter 649 - 623: Boss Qian is Tricking People Again at Bird Qiao
Chapter 649: Chapter 623: Boss Qian is Tricking People Again at Bird Qiao
“I don’t have Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder!” Ye Xiaoyu’s defenses were weakening. She had never before thought of herself as sick, but after Xiao Qian repeatedly emphasized it, she began to suspect that she might indeed be different from others.
“I express my dissatisfaction with someone’s actions directly and never hold it inside. In my eyes, the world doesn’t hold that many people for me to secretly resent. I shouldn’t have to change who I am to satisfy the world, so I am living comfortably. Consider this lesson on your superb cooking skills as recompense for your actions. Go and ponder on it.”
Xiao Qian was in a good mood that morning and decided to offer a lesson for her friend suffering from Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder.
“Surely there are other alternatives to resenting people in secret?” Xiao Qian’s words struck a chord deep inside Ye Xiaoyu.
“Of course, Ye Xiaoyu, you don’t have a good relationship with your parents, do you? I feel like you treat Weiwei better than your own parents.” After discussing Ye Xiaoyu’s Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, Xiao Qian subtly steered the conversation back on track.
“I don’t want to talk about it.”
Xiao Qian shrugged. She knew Ye Xiaoyu was on high alert – any attempts at extracting information from her through conversation would be futile. However, Boss Qian wasn’t the type to be daunted by difficulties. She always had a solution.
After finishing their meal, Xiao Qian stood up and turned on some music, simultaneously lighting her oil diffuser.
Ye Xiaoyu initially meant to clear the table, but she was captivated by the soothing music.
“What’s this song? It sounds nice. It would probably fit well with my show.”
“My therapy plan involves musical therapy. Music can be used to treat many mental illnesses. Don’t believe me? Close your eyes and listen, laying back on the couch~”
With an alluring smile, Xiao Qian took on the personality of a spiritual guru.
Without suspicion, Ye Xiaoyu closed her eyes and leaned against the sofa. The aroma from the essential oils filled the room, immediately instilling a sense of relaxation. Xiao Qian then started the process of hypnotic induction.
“Do you feel relaxed?”
“Yes, very much.”
“Clear your mind. Imagine yourself in a lush green forest, encompassed by the sweet fragrance of grass…” The first step in hypnosis is to stimulate one’s imagination.
Ye Xiaoyu had never undergone hypnosis before. She was unaware of Xiao Qian’s deceptive nature, making her an easy subject.
Once Ye Xiaoyu entered a semi-hypnotic state, with her entire body relaxed, Xiao Qian started asking her questions.
“Tell me, what’s your honest opinion of your parents? Don’t hold back.”
“My mom is the type who hates being taken advantage of. She always thinks she’s in control and values money highly. She always thought I wasn’t pretty nor perfect enough. As for my dad, he wasn’t home often when I was younger, leaving my mother to care for me. However, I always felt that she loved herself more than she loved me—her regard for money always trumped her feelings towards me.”
“And what does your father do?”
“Now he’s a manager at a private company. When I was little, he worked at a state-owned enterprise. He would come home late from entertaining colleagues with lots of drinking. When the enterprise went bankrupt, he started his own business but failed and had to find employment in a private company.”
“What’s Weiwei’s relationship with your parents like?”
“Weiwei doesn’t get along well with my mom. My mom is kind of stingy and always wants to send Weiwei to my uncle’s, but my dad disagrees. They often argue about this. I think my dad really cares about Weiwei—he’s always buying her clothes.”
“Does your father have a violent tendency?”
“No, my dad never hits anyone. But he has his own issues. When he worked at the state-owned enterprise, he would often get into fights with my mom due to his complicated relationships with female coworkers. After he lost his job and my mom started to earn money, their positions in the family switched. My mom would constantly berate my dad.”
Under hypnosis, Ye Xiaoyu, who wouldn’t usually share these aspects of her life, poured out her deepest secrets to Xiao Qian—including embarrassing family details.
“Are you sure Weiwei and your father get along well?”
“Yes, they get along incredibly well. A few years ago, when the first KFC opened in our city, my dad took Weiwei there for a meal. At the time, I was still in university and worked in a Western restaurant. Behind the glass window, while I was serving diners, I saw my dad and Weiwei eating in the restaurant opposite. It made me feel happy but also sad. It hurt me to see my dad laugh in a way he never did at home, yet I was happy that he treated Weiwei well.”
Xiao Qian quietly noted down this information.
“Your mother dislikes Weiwei, and your father treats Weiwei better than you. Then why do you feel differently about this younger sister?” Xiao Qian asked.
“She has been in my family since she was very little. Whenever I was upset, she would always comfort me with her smiles. I admit I didn’t always do the right things. But if I were a dark mire, then Weiwei would be my only beam of light. I felt that if society hadn’t shaped me into who I am now, I would have been like Weiwei—a naive little girl.”
Xiao Qian now had all the information she needed. She should have ended the session but when she saw Ye Xiaoyu express her feelings for Weiwei under semi-hypnosis, a familiar saying came to mind.
Underneath a hateful exterior often lies much pain. Because of Ye Xiaoyu’s pain, Xiao Qian decided to ask one more question.
“When did you start becoming fascinated with makeup?”
“I was still in university and working part-time. The better jobs almost always demanded higher physical attractiveness, so after failing a few interviews, I learned how to apply makeup. Gradually, I realized that I become a different person when I put on makeup—I became more confident.”
Ye Xiaoyu would never have said these words if she wasn’t under Xiao Qian’s hypnosis, and she certainly wouldn’t have confided in anyone.
“From now on, your confidence will not come from cosmetics, but from sincere compliments from others. Change a bit every day when you wake up, you will only have a vague memory of our conversation.”
Xiao Qian snapped her fingers, waking Ye Xiaoyu from her semi-hypnotic state.
“What just happened?” Ye Xiaoyu only felt a little dizzy. She vaguely remembered having a conversation with Xiao Qian but couldn’t recall the specifics.
“You were tired and fell asleep.” Xiao Qian smiled sweetly, not appearing at all like someone who had just tricked another.
Just as Xiao Qian was preparing to send Ye Xiaoyu home, Liu Mei’s anxious voice echoed from outside the door.
“Sister-in-law, please open the door!”
Xiao Qian hastily opened the door to see Liu Mei carrying Weiwei on her back.
“What happened to my sister?” Ye Xiaoyu rushed over to take the pale-looking Weiwei from Liu Mei.
Together, they helped Weiwei onto the couch.
“I have no idea. I took her out for a walk, and we ended up in a small alley where a new fried chicken shop had opened. I treated her to ice cream and French fries, but she started acting weird once the food arrived. She didn’t seem interested in eating, so I decided to take her home. But her behavior became increasingly sluggish on the way back. She was almost hit by a car…”
Liu Mei was still a little terrified thinking back to the sight. Luckily, she had reacted swiftly. Up to this moment, she still couldn’t comprehend how Weiwei could be so slow to react to an oncoming car. She had also stopped responding to what Liu Mei said.
“French fries? Ice cream?” Xiao Qian understood immediately.
