Chapter 234: Living Feast
Zod knew that he couldn't escape this, only slow it down. He had already expended most of his energy defending himself from Kael, all he had left was barely enough for anything.
The pale-yellow wind barrier around him began to waver and fade in and out of existence.
The wolves, bears, and foxes pushed in harder, they could already taste the sweet flesh, the delicious blood, and the power up they would get from feasting on this body.
"Please…" Zod pleaded one last time as he felt the last bits of his energy vanishing as the wind barrier dispersed.
Alas, Kael ignored his pleas, keeping his back turned and staring at the sun setting over the forest horizon.
"AAARGH!"
The very instant the barrier vanished, a wolf bit the side of his abdomen, dragging and tearing on the skin.
Another fox went for his pelvis, sinking her fangs into his penis. She shook her head aggressively, trying to rip the member away from Zod's body.
A bear had bit into his shoulder, hooking his long teeth to Zod's strong bones and piercing deeper and deeper into his flesh.
All this was naturally very painful for Zod, it was agonizing, the pain was heart-stopping, and it was absolutely dreadful.
More and more carnivorous creatures descended upon him without mercy, biting at whatever flesh they could find.
This was where Zod found his tough body to be a curse.
Compared to the likes of Kael and others of the same tier, Zod's body was relatively weaker, just the average standard.
But for many creatures comparable to tier 2 and tier 3, his body was very hard and tough to bite through.
This didn't mean they couldn't bite through the flesh, it just meant that they would have to try very hard and wouldn't succeed in the first few tries.
If Zod was constantly moving around, this wouldn't be a problem, he could just tank as many bites as he wanted while being mobile.
But now, Zod was strapped to the ground as these beasts tried to tear him to pieces. His skin was tough, yes, but this just made it harder for them to kill him, it didn't stop him from feeling the pain.
Multiple fangs jammed into his bones and flesh repeatedly, doing serious damage and causing him to feel extreme pain.
Blood had started to flow by now, Zod's body was completely covered by the beastly creatures and no part of him could be seen.
Even his face was being chewed on ferociously. Although he closed his eyes instinctively, he couldn't do anything about his ears which were starting to be torn off from his head.
His blood started to slip into the ground, soaking the sand and dying the ground red. The blood flowed down the slope and into the seawater.
"Aaaaaaaaaaaaaagh, stop!"
That fox had finally managed to rip his penis away. She ran away with the bleeding member, chased by other foxes who wanted to have a taste of it.
The moment Zod opened his mouth to scream uncontrollably from the pain, a wolf jammed his snout into his open mouth and bit his tongue.
Zod's screams were cut short as the wolf easily ripped out his tongue, causing blood to spray out of his mouth and splash all over his face.
Zod's mind went blank as he screamed again, this time, his scream came out as a ghostly shriek. He was starting to sound like a soul being tortured in the deepest pit of hell.
His belly was eventually shredded and his intestines were pulled out, shared, cut, eaten, and rough-handled.
Zod was being eaten while he was still alive and there was nothing he could do to stop it.
Was there a fate worse than death? Yes.
Zod was currently experiencing it.
If only they could eat faster to end his misery. This was what Zod found himself praying for.
Things escalated with different creatures climbing on top of each other, trying to get a piece of meat from this opportunity. Just a piece might increase their powers significantly.
They formed a pile of fur and muscle over themselves, fighting for a piece of meat that would change their life.
Even the birds flying above who had hoped to find something were completely blocked. There was no way to get close to Zod without injuring themselves.
Still, some birds dived down, pushing and squeezing their way until they found access to the living feast.
Kael stood on top of a bone hut, eyeing all his with an indifferent gaze.
'When did I become so…wicked,' Kael asked himself with genuine curiosity. He was ruthless but this was the most amount of suffering he had ever condemned one creature to.
He didn't feel any happiness or ecstasy at the idea of causing such suffering, nor did he feel bad or guilty about it.
He just felt…indifferent. Like it was a normal thing to order for someone to be eaten alive.
'Is it my beastly side becoming more apparent?'
Indeed, all the creatures did not flinch or feel guilt about what was happening to Zod, they even saw it as an opportunity to increase their chances of survival.
Survival of the fittest.
Kael was the only one thinking about the ethical aspects of what he had just done, his whole mentality was seemingly out of place in this world.
*Sigh!*
A sigh escaped Kael's lips, he put the useless thoughts at the back of his mind and returned his focus to other important things.
With what he had done, he had ensured that another enemy wouldn't stab him from behind in the future, another future threat had been eliminated.
Through his connection to the binding runes, Kael could feel Zod's now non-existent struggle. By now, he was so gone that his body had naturally transformed back into its true cheetah form.
Zod was dead, finally.
Kael raised his hand to hold up the ripped-off limb of the now-dead Zod. The limb had already transformed into a Cheetah's front limb at some point.
Kael flung the spotted limb away without care. The flying limb caught the attention of a few creatures who immediately rushed the limb.
One bear jumped and caught the limb in his mouth before it reached the ground. Before he could process his gain, other creatures rushed him and started fighting him for the limb.
Looking at this, Kael could not help but let out a dark chuckle. These creatures were so simple, they could be controlled easily as long as they were fed and he had enough power to dominate them.
And he found it slightly funny…slightly.
The pair of golden wings behind Kael shrank into Kael's back along with his regal aura.
Space twisted and distorted around his body before he disappeared.
He appeared again at the settlement's border that was closest to the forest.
Commander Bibi, Chloe, and Diane were still here. They had seen almost everything that had happened, from Kael teleporting away to fight Zod, to him feeding the cheetah man to the hungry beasts.
"That was a glorious fight, Your Majesty." Commander Bibi could not help but flatter. He was not saying it for anything else other than the fact that the fight had been blood-pumping for him.
"Indeed," Chloe agreed with a smile.
None of them were disturbed by the distant sight of Zod being eaten alive, it didn't bother them at all, Kael noticed.
"Your Majesty, I have a suggestion," Diane said.
Kael looked at her, signaling for her to go on.
"Why don't we use this as a future method of execution? Anyone caught committing treason to the lion regime would be sentenced to death by being eaten alive,"
Diane spoke with unfiltered glee, she truly thought of her idea as a great thing.
"King Kael, that is a good idea, it would definitely deter most creatures from having any treacherous thoughts toward your authority," Chloe chimed in, agreeing to Diane's suggestion.
Diane looked at Chloe, slightly surprised that this lioness would support her idea.
Diane was a simple person, since Chloe was clearly no longer an enemy according to Kael, and she just supported Diane's idea, Diane felt obligated to treat this her new pride sister better.
As for whether Chloe had done this intentionally knowing how simple-minded a War Lioness like Diane could be, no one knew.
Commander Bibi did not say anything to this, after all, this type of punishment was meant for people like him, vassals of the lion royalty.
"It is a fascinating idea, but we'll talk about it at a later date," Kael stated.
"For now…" Kael then waved his hand at Diane, causing a stream of power to alter the consort contract between her and Kael.
The golden crown tattoo on Diane's forehead appeared and glowed brightly, surprising her. Diane could feel the mysterious Conquering Essence starting to accumulate within her body and muscles.
Meanwhile, Kael turned away from Diane and faced the sea. The whole settlement was reflected in his eyes, as well as the faint amount of Conquering Essence lingering in the atmosphere.
'Absorb…'
