Chapter 119: Meeting the Vampires
"It's really amazing! As expected of my grandson."
"Thank you, Grandma. Glad that you liked it."
I thanked Seraphina as I took a piece of the cake using a fork and ate it.
I was sitting between Aria and Seraphina. Silas was beside Seraphina while Selene was alone at the other side of the table.
Oh, and Selene was in her Draconian form… they only had to sniff her to know that she had dragon blood.
I understood now why Zephyr had called me a dog when I found him by his scent.
Fortunately, they didn't talk or ask about her and just acted normally.
'This is really awkward…'
I didn't know any of them, yet they were strangely showing us much love as if they knew us for years.
While silently eating the cake, Seraphina put her hand all of a sudden on my head and began to move it through my hair.
'Yeah this is really awkward. I'm an adult!'
Though I said that inwardly, it actually felt strangely comfortable…
[Huaaahaa… Auntie is really the best~] Glutton's voice echoed in my head, his emotions showing happiness.
My gaze landed on him. He was making happy noises while in Aria's embrace. She was scratching his neck, feeding cake to him, and patting his head with a wide smile.
"Ray, your spirit is so cute!" Aria shouted excitingly, hugging Glutton tighter.
[I'm cute~!]
"Y-yeah, cute…"
Seeing his beak opening in a smile, I had the urge to describe how he ate 2 people when they were alive.
'Why are you overreacting for just a hug?' I asked inwardly, confused by his behaviour.
[Just a hug? JUST A HUG?!!] Glutton yelled loudly in my head, [That's my first time getting a hug since my birth! Damn you! Auntie is my only family now!!]
"...."
Maybe I was really too harsh on him…
[I wonder if she will give me all her mana crystals and potions, hehehe.]
'Nevermind, I'm cooking that fucking bird!'
"So… ah," Seraphina broke the silence, "How were you doing in the past years since… his death. Ahem, I mean, I'd like to hear how your lives were going."
At her words, I raised an eyebrow but I didn't think too much.
I began to say a few things to her like how I met Zephyr, about my talents and just a few random topics.
The mood lightened up immediately, everyone talking about a different topic to make our conversation flow naturally, and I had learnt many things about them.
The vampires chose their rulers by voting system, not inheritance. And Seraphina was the former queen! She retired after falling in love with a human and giving birth to 2 children before his death.
They were Silas and Crimson.
Later on, Crimson fell in love with my mother, and after she was crippled, he decided to leave the vampire kingdom and go live with her in the elf kingdom.
He worked under a guild, and kept contacting the vampires from time to time. They had something similar to my bracelet but without the defensive and healing abilities.
But someday… they lost all connections with him.
It was about an accident related to a demon called the Sin of Oblivion. But they closed the topic and didn't continue.
I was planning to see if I could read about it in the library, hoping I would find anything related to it.
"Ah… Raylin," Silas suddenly called, hesitation was clear in his voice as he continued, "I noticed something strange. Have you killed someone… in the past week…?"
Seraphina's hand suddenly froze while Aria and Selene looked at me with wide eyes.
[Pat me moooore….]
I laughed softly. "Yes, just a few monsters in the forest — I wasn't patient enough to wait a week. But don't worry, I took Selene with me."
"Haha, I really forgot about that place!" Silas scratched his head, "It's just strange that your internal bloodlust increased significantly in just a week. Sorry for this question."
'Internal bloodlust? Can he see my bloodlust without releasing it?!'
I shook my head. "It's okay, uncle. Just make your questions clear in front of Aria, I felt her clenching her fist to punch me again."
Everyone laughed lightly as we returned to talking about different topics, but my thoughts were different.
'I don't know how, but he knows.'
[Yeah…]
There was no way he forgot about the forest. To ask this question and specifically talking about this week — he obviously knew.
But there was nothing I could do but hint to talk about that without Aria.
She would know about this inevitably, but not today.
After a few minutes, I finally asked the question that interrupted me the most.
"So, where were you all this time? You didn't even send us a message. Didn't you know?"
Seraphina and Silas' heads fell instantly. Seraphina gritted her teeth and hissed.
"We knew, but we couldn't even enter that damn kingdom!" Seraphina took a deep breath, then continued: "We were supposed to take you when you turn 18, but the government didn't let us even enter Elyndra, and when you too became 18, they just used more excuses!"
Hearing her, my eyes widened instantly, 'Why would they go this far just to keep us?'
Yes, we were talented, and both of us won on that gamble, but there were many like us.
And don't forget, when Aria turned 18, she was just a normal Exalted! No aether or 2 artifacts, just an alchemist swordmage that barely entered the top 5 in both alchemy and combat.
'Something feels off…'
Offending the former vampire queen just for us wasn't logical at all. Was there something hidden, or were they doing the same with every other student?
'Wait, they didn't know about my reincarnation… right?'
That was terrifyingly possible. Maybe I was the problem here, not Aria. Maybe they somehow knew that I wasn't from this world.
'Damn! I hope not. That would be a real problem.'
I read a novel before where the world was advanced enough to know about reincarnation and transmigration. If I wasn't the only reincarnator, then it was possible!
As I was struggling with my inner thoughts, hiding them under an emotionless face, Seraphina suddenly clapped.
"Anyway, I think it's the time to start our second reason for coming here." Seraphina left her plate, stood up and smiled at me, but I saw some hesitation beneath her smile.
"So, what now?" I asked curiously as I stood up as well, looking directly at her.
All of a sudden, out of thin air, something big appeared behind her.
I looked at it in daze, 'What the hell?!'
It was a fucking coffin!
A big coffin clad in black chains. It seemed to be made of deep red wood and had the word "Awakening" carved on it.
Seraphina's smile widened, laying the coffin on the ground as she said: "If you were a pure vampire, you would have awakened your blood naturally at the age of 18, but because you are just a hybrid, you need to use a special method."
Silas stood beside her then cleared his throat and continued.
"This coffin is made specifically to awaken the vampiric blood in your body. All you have to do is sleep there and endure some pain. Your sister did that already, so only you remained."
I nodded excitedly. "Okay, I'm ready! Open it now."
Like a metallic door, the coffin was opened easily under Seraphina's force before she moved aside for me to enter.
"Oh," Seraphina added, "And you have to take off all what you are wearing."
She then glanced at Selene — whose face turned red immediately — as if asking her to leave.
"It's okay," I stopped her, "It's actually my soul-bound artifact. I just have to dismiss it when I enter."
Seraphina put her hand at her chin, thinking deeply, before giving me a nod.
As I took off my bracelet and ring, and got ready to lay in the coffin, Aria suddenly grabbed my hand.
Hugging Glutton's with one hand and holding a potion in the other, she handed me the colourless potion.
"What is this?"
"Pain resistance — it will help you."
I shook my head and gave it back to her. "Don't worry, I don't need it."
She looked at me with confusion, but then it turned into sadness as she nodded and moved away.
'What's wrong with her? I simply drank one before their arrival. Drinking more would be harmful.'
I shook my head and entered the coffin, sleeping in a pharaoh position and watching Seraphina closing the coffin.
"Just endure it for a few minutes!" Silas said while waving at me.
Seeing the last rays of light vanish, the coffin closed completely, leaving me in absolute darkness.
Of course, I could see perfectly in darkness.
'So what now…' I wondered as I dismissed my mask and prepared my mind for what was coming.
[Ahaha… yes, feed me more cake. Feed me the entire cake, Autnie.]
"...."
All of a sudden, a type of thick liquid began to form under me.
The feeling was familiar, and with the scent, I knew exactly what that liquid was.
'Blood!'
[Blood?]
'You shut up!'
The blood in the coffin was increasing gradually, and after a few moments, it filled the entire coffin.
I didn't know if I could breathe inside the blood or not, because I didn't need air, but I didn't pay it much mind.
Then all of a sudden.
My eyes widened as one of the feelings I hated the most pierced every piece in my entire body.
Immense pain.
