Chapter 122: First Private Lesson
"Show me a straight punch!"
*Bam!*
"You call this a punch? Fix your posture and punching angle!"
*Bam!*
"Not enough!"
I resisted the urge to kick Butto's butt and clenched my fist before throwing a direct punch at a training dummy.
Before my hand touched the dummy, I enhanced it at the very last moment before the impact.
*BAM!*
The impact was a little stronger than my normal enhanced punches, showing a visible improvement in my aura usage.
"Not enough! Your timing is terrible!"
I sighed and continued punching.
Butto kept moving around the place with inhuman speed that wasn't much different from teleportation, observing around 1000 students at the same time.
He was simply helping us to learn an aura enhancement technique that could change many things.
At the moment of using my aura, the enhanced part would reach its peak before going to a point where it would depend on the aura control.
To make it simple, let's say I enhanced my hand. My hand power would get 5 times the power at the start, then keep lowering rapidly until it reached the 2 times the power that I naturally had.
If my control was that incredible, I could keep it fixed on 5 times the power, but as a first year student, I was too far from that.
So the trick here was enhancing my hand right before the moment of impact to use that fast small moment of perfect enhancement.
It was hard to learn, and even extremely harder to use in a real fight, but the result was worth it.
And of course, it had a big flaw which was the lack of defense against surprise attacks.
And obviously, I was planning to master this shit!
'I will never dare to consider myself a Soulsborne fan again if I didn't master it!'
As a former player I mastered many similar systems like parry, evade, perfect release and more. One more timing system shouldn't be a problem just because it was in real life, right?
[Former no-life.]
For the next 2 hours, we continued punching while taking only small rests and listening to Butto's insults.
Eventually, the class ended and we became free to leave.
I wiped out imaginary sweats.
'Still have a long way to go, but there is improvement.'
As I approached Selene, we began to leave the training grounds together, talking about some random topics.
Until suddenly, a voice whispered beside my ear.
—Sorry, I will have to kidnap you for a moment. It's the time for our first lesson, isn't it?
I turned my head toward Selene, seeing her eyes open wide too.
Before I could open my mouth, my vision changed almost in an instant as I found myself in another place.
'Shit! I couldn't even resist it. I wonder how she teleports me without gates.'
Suddenly, I heard her talking again.
"Give me a second and we will start. I just have to finish these papers. Come and sit until I finish it."
Hearing her voice, I began to scan my surroundings.
I was in what seemed to be a big, wide, luxurious office with a few sofas and chairs here and there.
At the far end of the office, there was a square desk with 2 empty chairs at the front and a big one at the back.
Lunara Solen, the academy's principal, was wearing a simple black shirt, leather black shorts and long black stockings, and was sitting on the chair at the back with a mountain of papers in front of her.
In one hand, she held a pen while writing something rapidly on papers. Whenever she finished one, it would disappear and get replaced by another one.
With her other hand…
"...."
I blinked once, then blinked twice.
Glutton's voice echoed in my head.
[No, you aren't imagining it…]
With her other hand, she was hugging a man who was sitting on her lap like a mother and her child.
Except that the child was the same age as me!
He had short white hair and pale white skin that reminded me of frozen corpses. His scleras and pupils were as black as the darkness itself, and his irises had blackish-blue color on them.
He was a familiar face that I watched for close to 1 year, Yami!
Even though we had never met face to face before, I still felt some happiness to see him doing well. Although I didn't know his relationship with Lunara, I hoped it wasn't the thing in my mind.
[Sugar mommy!]
Wearing a black kimono, Yami was busy eating… Donuts?
Wait, did this world even have donuts?!
I teleported silently to one of the empty chairs and waited for the principal with expressionless face, while noticing the strange donuts on Yami's hands.
'Could this piece of dough even be considered a donut? Whoever made it must be executed!'
I sighed as I made a mental note to make something better for him next time we met.
All of a sudden, Yami turned his head and looked me directly in the eyes.
'Huh? Is there something wrong?'
Without a change in expression — hiding my real emotions under my perfect muscle control — I kept staring at him without flinching.
You may not know, but it was so hard to look at him with a straight face in that position. I was barely holding myself from bursting into laughter!
After a few moments, he finally opened his mouth.
"I wanted to thank Ỳ̡̛̀̕͢͢͡ờ̷͜͟u̸̷͟͜͝ for helping me when… when I was in that place, Night Terror…"
'What the fuck!'
[Oh shit!]
I froze instantly in my place, trying to process what I had just heard and ignoring Lunara who had just chuckled.
How did he know? Did Aria tell him? Or did he simply get the ability to know who gambled on him because he was the winner?
And it wasn't a good feeling when someone thanked you for gambling on him!
Calming myself, I cleared my throat and spoke.
"Ahem… I don't know how you know about this, but no need to thank me — I got rewarded, right? You can say we are equal."
Yami suddenly tried to force a smile, but it turned into a broken one as he said:
"You, your sister, Zephyr, Arthur, Elara and Selene… I'm making a soul-bound artifact for each one of you…"
As she finished talking, he took a donut out of his donut box and handed it to me.
A small smile tugged at my lips as I respectfully took it from him.
An additional soul-bound artifact was always a good thing, wasn't it? I wasn't going to refuse something that could raise my chance of survival.
As I looked at the pink donut on my hand, I ate it immediately in one bite.
'Yeah, it tastes like shit compared to the real donuts, tsk.'
I was ready to pull out a lemon bar from my storage, but just then, Lunara slammed her pen on the desk.
*Bam!*
"I'm finally… DONE!"
Lunara let out a breath of relief as she shamelessly took a donut from Yami's hand and devoured it instantly.
The next moment, she clapped once, a big smile spreading across her features as she looked at me.
"Now, my dear third and fourth students, what about we start quickly? Because your beautiful teacher still has more work that isn't done."
'Wait, third and fourth?'
Before I could say anything, my vision changed again.
'No introduction or anything?'
Then out of nowhere, a sudden pressure hit me.
Not the mental one, but the real physical one!
'What the fuck?!'
As I scanned my situation, I found myself floating in the middle of the depth of water where no light could reach.
There were many different types of fishes swimming around and some of them had the aura pressure of Tier-2 entities.
Then all of a sudden, something silky covered my body, sealing all my senses completely.
Including feeling! I couldn't even feel the vibrations on the water!
'Glutton! What is happening!'
[.... How am I supposed to know?!]
'You useless piece of—!'
All of a sudden, Glutton's presence inside my soul vanished, then the second thing I felt was him floating beside me.
[Ah! I have just lost my senses too! Father, do something!]
"...."
A moment later, Lunara's voice echoed in my head.
—Hehe, so for the first lesson, do you know what is the real foundation of the best spatial Exalted?
"...."
'How am I supposed to answer?'
I had a guess for the answer, and with our current situation, It had a high chance to be right.
And did she just teleport Glutton out of my soul?! Was he the fourth student? But how did she even find and teleport him!
—The answer is: Spatial Awareness!
[Fuck it! I want my vision back!]
—By sharpening your spatial awareness, you would feel more things than just the big objects, like how I could feel simple, unseen things like the sound and teleport them without touching anything else.
'Wait, was this the trick?'
—You can also feel what exists inside the objects! Like how I felt your cute little friend and teleported him without touching your organs.
[Told you I'm cute~!]
'How the hell is that Eldritch creature cute?!'
Lunara paused for a moment before continuing.
—Now about your mission for this lesson — you only have to find the exit of this ocean using only your spatial awareness while hunting 3 golden fish.
—The water and the beasts will interrupt your spatial awareness, and without your eyes, you can't know the color of the fish, so you will have to sharpen it to 'feel' the colors and what exists inside the water. You should thank me that I started with water instead of something solid.
"...."
All that… in the first lesson?
Wasn't that like throwing a child in the water to make them learn how to swim? Yeah, it worked some times, but I didn't like it!
—Oh, by the way, some fishes can bite, so you better improve quickly. But don't worry, I won't allow you to die until you learn it~.
"...."
After that, her voice never returned again.
I kept floating in the water, trying to know what to do after this.
[What now… daddy?]
"...."
'Now… you just stop calling me daddy.'
