Reverend Insanity: The Goody Two-Shoes System

Paradise Earth led Fang Yuan to the same table they had set up before. Given how little the Blessed Land had changed, it felt as though they had sat there just yesterday. Of course, this had not been yesterday, and quite a bit had happened since the last time the two of them had spoken to each other.

"This is a slightly different variety of tea," Paradise Earth said. "Rather than going for sweet, like last time, I decided to change things to a bit more bitter and darker flavor by adding coffee beans to it, creating a slight mix of tea and coffee. If I were to add some special Earth Path ingredients I could even have it give you a few Earth Path dao marks, but I sense that will be a hinderance to you right now. How do you like it?"

Fang Yuan took a sip. Being prepared by an immortal, it undoubtedly tasted excellent. However, neither the driest of wines, nor the most gorgeous of jade beauties, nor the tastiest of food, could deter Fang Yuan's mind from his goal. He was as fixed to his path of attaining eternal life as the North Star was back in Earth's sky - the other stars might dance about it, but it alone remained true to itself.

"Is that all you have to say, Paradise Earth?" Fang Yuan asked. "I didn't think that the man renowned as one of the most generous and most righteous Immortal Venerables in all of history would be this shameless!"

"Shameless, me?" Paradise Earth asked with feigned surprise. "Oh, Gu Yue Fang Yuan, what makes you think that?"

"Last time I was here, your compatriot Genesis Lotus Immortal Venerable attacked me," Fang Yuan said. "Not only were you unable to do anything about it, but now that I come back, you don't give me any words of apology or even ask how I'm doing. Instead, you act as if nothing happened. Shouldn't you be compensating me for what I had to go through, Paradise Earth? It is only right that I demand such given what I was forced to go through at your hands and due to your negligence. You can start by handing me control over this Blessed Land."

Paradise Earth laughed. "Oh, Fang Yuan, why are you in such a rush? Don't you know? The most beautiful things in nature cannot be sped up, no matter how much humanity wishes. Nine women cannot create a baby in one month, no matter how much you urge them. This Blessed Land will eventually belong to you. The keyword there, of course, is 'eventually.' When the time is right, I will hand over this Blessed Land. But that is only after you become an Immortal. Coming to that, how has your time been since we last parted?"

"I suspect that you're already aware of what happened," Fang Yuan said. "However, in case you want me to tell you, we were attacked, and my clan has nearly been wiped out."

"Hmm, yes," Paradise Earth said.

"Think about it this way, Paradise Earth," Fang Yuan continued. "Their deaths could have been prevented if only you had given me more help in the past. However, now they're dead. Their blood is on your hands. How can you, the most Peaceful Venerable in history, so-called, sit there and so relaxingly drink tea while knowing this? It is not without reason that I just called you shameless."

Paradise Earth shook his head. "Oh, Fang Yuan, they might be dead, but death is certainly not the end of the line, not when it comes to the Human Path. As you will soon see, they might be dead now, but who says that they cannot come back and ask for suffering? Even if I wanted to, I could not alleviate the entire world's suffering."

"No," Fang Yuan said. "However, there are things that you can do right now. Such as by handing me over this Blessed Land, or some Immortal Gu, or helping me ascend to become an Immortal myself."

"Regarding that, actually," Paradise Earth said. "Have you been able to obtain the Righteous Virtue Physique? I had told you that it was quite important that you do so."

Fang Yuan shook his head. "I've not reached Rank 5 yet." Although he had Rank 5 Charity Gu and had enough Human Path dao marks to fulfil the refinement conditions, he had not reached Rank 5 itself and so could not move forward with that refinement.

"And yet I see that you have several of the ingredients needed already," Paradise Earth said. "I can give you a hint when it comes to refining the Righteous Virtue Physique. Like I said earlier, the aid of one of the Ten Extreme Physiques would help you in obtaining the same. You have a gu worm within your system which you can use with your ally Bai Ning Bing in order to make things easier on yourself."

"Well in that case," Fang Yuan continued, "I would like to move the people of Gu Yue village to this Blessed Land."

"That, I'm afraid, is not possible," Paradise Earth said.

"Why not?" Fang Yuan asked.

"Because, Fang Yuan," Paradise Earth said. "Part of your journey is learning how to care for your fellow man. I have a feeling that, despite everything you've done up till now, your inner nature has not changed. It is only by becoming a true clan head that you will be able to advance and learn."

"I am trying to be a true Clan Head," Fang Yuan retorted. "My clan can only remain safe and away from danger if they were in a place like this. Why wouldn't I want them to experience one of the paradises that you had created?"

Paradise Earth smirked. "There are a number of additional reasons why I cannot accommodate humans in this Blessed Land for now. However, I know that that what you are saying is without a doubt not true. I know that you, with your ingenuity, can indeed find a way for your clan to survive. Continue to follow the Goody Two-Shoes System, and you will soon find success. When it's time for you to ascend to Immortality, that is when I will be lending you more aid."

By now, he had finished his tea. The flavor had been so enrapturing that the two of them had actually sat there for four hours without Fang Yuan even fully realizing it. Of course, within the Blessed Land, with its accelerated rate of time, this was not as apparent as it otherwise would have been.

"So then, what is next?" Fang Yuan asked.

"What is next is that you will continue to lead your clan," Paradise Earth said, "and you will try to refine the Righteous Virtue Physique. Only once you have refined it should you attempt to ascend to immortality. Fang Yuan, with your foundation increased like that, the gains you will be able to obtain upon becoming an immortal will be all the greater. That is all that I have to say to you right now. However, there's someone else who wishes to speak to you, of course. Genesis Lotus Immortal Venerable."

Fang Yuan scoffed. "You want me to speak with him? Why would I willingly put my head in the lion's mouth?"

Paradise Earth shook his head. "While what had happened earlier was indeed... unforeseen, Fang Yuan, I'm sure that you already know that he wishes to see you succeed. He also has a heavy hand when it comes to the construction of the Goody Two-Shoes System. Even if he had tried to achieve them through means I would not approve of. He still cannot harm you directly in this Blessed Land, and won't be pulling any tricks like last time - that I will assure you."
