Chapter 203: Spiritual Zombie
Janna could feel some kind of energy running through her body every time she killed a zombie. She didn't understand what it was, but it gave her courage and strength.
The more zombies she killed, the stronger she became. Even though the strength wasn't shooting up like a rocket, she could feel a difference between the time she started the fight and that moment.
Leng Pan, who had been fighting closer to her and protecting her, also noticed this change. However, now wasn't the time to ask questions.
The others were also doing everything they could to kill zombies and assist each other.
Leng Pan and Lu Zhen observed how these people fought and found that even though they didn't have rich experience, they had strong survival instincts.
They could always dodge a deadly attack from zombies at critical moments. Even though it was done without any strategy, the most important thing was that their sense of danger was off the charts.
Moreover, even though everyone was fighting for their lives and it was the first time to fight together, they had a sense of teamwork and would give each other a hand in critical situations.
These were people worth befriending in the apocalypse. Even though the team won't be large, if Lu Zhen's friends were added, it would become an unstoppable force.
One hour after the fight began, the number of zombies had gone down from about two thousand to one thousand. Killing over a thousand zombies in one hour wasn't easy.
The team had been swinging their swords and killing zombies while watching out for seal attacks constantly.
For those who were not used to such intense activities like the wife of the first neighbor, she was on the verge of collapse and was only fighting with pure will power.
Janna had also started to get tired. It felt as if the energy that had been accumulating in her body while fighting zombies was either used up and no more was gathering, or her body couldn't take it.
Leng Pan also noticed this and also knew that the men were also nearing their breaking point.
If this continued, they would be surrounded and killed. Having a group of seven people kill so many zombies was already a miracle.
Seeing that the neighbor's wife was about to be captured by a zombie and she didn't have time to react or dodge, Leng Pan covered her with a mist barrier.
The zombie that touched the barrier from the momentum of its attack was instantly turned into mist as well.
This scene shocked the few members of the team so much that they paused their attacks.
That small pause nearly cost them their lives. If Leng Pan hadn't reacted quickly and covered the two people closest to her with the purification mist and Lu Zhen covered the other three with his mutated fire that would turn any zombie that came close to ashes, then they few people would be a goner.
"No matter what happens in a fight, you can never be distracted. If you want to stay alive, you better develop strong shock absorbers.
Otherwise, you will hand over your lives to zombies one of these days because you were too shocked to move and defend yourself." Leng Pan reprimanded the people inside the barrier.
"Sorry." They apologized in unison.
They knew that what they had done was dangerous. If Leng Pan and Lu Zhen hadn't reacted in time to protect them, then they would have died.
Leng Pan was right, they might see even more shocking things in the future. Were they going to put their lives in danger every time something unusual happened?
"You better remember that even though we are teammates and won't abandon our comrades, you are responsible for your life.
If a situation like today occurred and something else happened at the same time forcing us to use our abilities and undivided attention to combat it, we would have to ignore you.
Then what? Wouldn't you have turned into a meal for the zombies by the time we are done? You can't expect anyone to protect you." Leng Pan emphasized again the importance of being self-reliant.
"We understand." They replied again.
The few members indeed understood that a situation like today could not be repeated, otherwise, they would be in big trouble.
Just as Lu Zhen was about to say something, a loud growl came from the direction of the staff building.
Soon after, more zombies appeared from all directions and started attacking.
The number of zombies that had just reduced soared again.
Seeing this, Leng Pan finally understood.
"There is a zombie with spiritual superpowers here. We have to find a way to kill it, otherwise, we will never end this fight.
Moreover, it looks like the new zombies include a few mutated ones among them." Leng Pan said as she resumed killing.
Lu Zhen was the same. His Miao saber moved at a speed almost invisible to the naked eye as he harvested zombie heads.
"Have them retreat to the truck. Let's deal with that spiritual zombie first." Lu Zhen suggested while still fighting.
"Alright. I'll listen to you." Leng Pan agreed immediately.
She also knew that with the others so tired, having them keep fighting was just asking for death.
Therefore, she used her purification mist and formed a path that led from the spot they were fighting at to the truck.
"Janna, you and the others go back to the truck and don't come out no matter what. We'll deal with the zombie summoning others first." Leng Pan instructed.
"Okay." Janna replied and took the lead to walk through the mist path towards the truck.
The others also knew that if they continued to stay, they would be holding Leng Pan and Lu Zhen back.
From how zombies were turning into mist and ashes whenever they touched the barriers made by the two, the new team members were aware that the two could have wiped out those thousands of zombies long ago, but we're giving them a chance to train.
