Chapter 210: Xu Man’s Change
When they heard her words, the other four people perked up and tightened their hold on the shopping carts they were pushing.
"Okay wife, I will listen to you." The woman's husband agreed immediately which surprised the woman.
They had been married for years and even though they loved each other, her husband was one of those men with a huge ego who didn't like being led by women.
She had half-expected her husband to rebuff her statement but didn't expect him to be the first one to agree with her.
She looked at him with wide eyes out of surprise and the man felt ashamed of himself.
He had always been egoistic and chauvinistic, thinking that women should be beneath men.
Even though he loved his wife, he never allowed her to have the final say in anything because he believed that all the decisions should follow the wishes and the plans of the man.
However, today he had learned various powerful lessons from Lu Zhen.
Lu Zhen as a former CEO of such a large corporation didn't have any qualms leaving heavy decisions such as killing enemies or letting them go to his wife.
Even when they went out, most of the decisions followed Leng Pan's wishes and Lu Zhen as a husband was happy to indulge her. Even though individually the two were very strong, but he had noticed that when they combined their powers, they were practically invincible.
They also had a tacit understanding that went beyond couples who had been married for many years like his wife and him.
After thinking about all that he had witnessed, he realized that the difference between Lu Zhen and him was that Lu Zhen never fought with his wife about who was the man, who would lead, and who should listen.
They both listened to each other and he didn't think any other couple was living better in the apocalypse than them.
This had changed his view of life and made him realize that he and his wife were a team not opponents. Working together would take them further than working against each other or just having one person take on everything because he wanted the prestige of being a man.
Xu Man watched as his wife's face morphed from surprise to a delightful smile.
He hadn't seen his wife smile from the bottom of her heart like that since they got married. The last time he saw such a genuine smile was when they were still dating.
Thinking about what changed such a heartfelt smile to a mechanical one, he realized that it was when he started telling her that as a woman, she had to listen to him and follow his lead.
Only at this moment did he realize that he had clipped his wife's wings and locked her into a cage that was too small for her to even move.
She had gradually lost herself and become a puppet that was only supposed to listen to him and highlight his achievements and ego.
It was only when the apocalypse started that his wife had unraveled a little of herself so that she could protect their family, even daring to go out to kill zombies.
Now, with only a few words of support from him, she was so happy that she couldn't wipe the smile off her face. Just how much had he suppressed her?
He vowed to follow Lu Zhen's example. After all, if such a powerful man like Lu Zhen didn't mind following his wife's lead, who was he to have such an inflated ego?
The instincts of a woman were much better than thißeof a man. He believed that if he followed his wife, their lives would improve.
Hence, Xu Man went after his wife to ask for advice on what he should collect and put in his cart.
Mrs. Xu looked at her husband who seemed to have been possessed by a ghost and listed the things he should pick out calmly.
"Focus on collecting flour, don't mind what type of flour you find, take all the varieties you can see, just make sure that wheat flour takes the bigger share.
Also, take cooking oil, rice, and sugar. I will focus on taking the smaller items because there are too many and you might not know what to take and what not to bother with."
Xu Man listened to everything his wife said and realized that his decision was correct because if he led his wife, they would have taken way fewer items and he wouldn't even have known that there were smaller items to take.
As long as he got rice, flour, and oil, he would have been content and probably went home.
The others weren't very adept with what to take, so they also listened to Mrs. Xu and took the things she listed out and also followed her example when collecting the smaller items such as seasonings, hygiene products, ready-to-eat meals, self-healing meals, noodles, and snacks.
Mrs. Xu knew which snacks were healthy and which would just waste space. She also understood what was nutritious and could be used universally such as milk powder.
Since they couldn't get fresh milk anymore and still needed to supplement calcium in the body, Mrs. Xu advised them to take milk powder and collagen powder to ensure a constant supply of calcium and protein even when they run out of meat later.
They also visited the aisle holding canned foods and found that not much of the stick was left. It looked like the survivors who had been staying in the supermarket had eaten a lot of those.
But they still filled a cart with canned foods each. Even though it was less than anticipated, it was still better than nothing.
Leng Pan and Lu Zhen found the warehouse filled with supplies to the brim. Except for some space near the entrance that had human skeletons piled to a small hill.
It looked like those were the people the zombie they just burned had eaten.
However, the pile was larger than anticipated. It looked like there had been more people locked in the warehouse when the apocalypse started and we're unable to leave because of those who had mutated.
