Chapter 118: Holy Church
"Ellie, are you sure that it's here?"
In the middle of the night, a bunch of people were standing just outside a large mansion, hiding themselves in the darkness.
The man in the lead, a bearded middle aged man turned his head and looked behind him, his eyes landing on a young woman with long brown hair.
This woman, Ellie, was holding a golden compass in one of her hands, with its pointer turning around seemingly at random.
"Priest, even though the demon's traces have disappeared, according to the headquarters, it is in this area that they were last spotted.", Ellie said and unconsciously glanced at the people around her.
Most of these people were wearing thick metal armor, while they held cold weapons in their hands.
Droplets of blood slowly dripped down these cold weapons and fell to the ground, dying the earth below them red.
"Huh, I don't know why the headquarters put so much importance on the so-called demons."
"So far, every demon we have met has been a weakling.", one of these people, a young man holding a spear, muttered in a low voice, but since everyone here was a strong person, they were able to hear his words.
"Shush! Marcus, do you want to be receive the Holy Church's punishment?", the Priest couldn't help but scold him in an angry voice, causing Marcus to quickly shut up.
Although the Priest wanted to continue reprimanding him, he knew that there were better things to do and he couldn't waste his time on this.
Turning his head, the Priest looked at the large mansion in the distance, his eyes flashing with clear hesitation.
Although the headquarters had ordered them to wipe out all the extraterrestrial demons no matter what, if it was possible, he didn't want to clash with the nobles of the Sun Kingdom.
For them, killing a few ordinary people was fine, but if they killed nobles, there was bound to be turmoil.
If they were to take action, the Priest didn't have any doubt that all the nobles in the Sun Kingdom would immediately severely criticize the Holy Church.
After all, no noble would be fine with letting the Priests of the Holy Church search their territory and investigate their crimes.
To be honest, just like Marcus, the Priest also felt that the headquarters' orders were somewhat excessive.
So far, they had killed a few demons, but they were unable to see any difference between them and the common, ordinary people.
Hesitation flashed in the Priest's eyes, but in the end, he strengthened his resolve and made a tough decision.
"Now that the Earl is not here, it is the best opportunity we have to take action.", he said and with a serious expression, he looked at the people around him.
"We'll separate and each of us will go in secretly.."
"You are only allowed to take action if you are 100% certain that you've found the target, otherwise, you'll receive the Holy Church's punishment!", the Priest spoke and he brought his hands together, making a prayer gesture.
"For our Lord!", he whispered.
The other people saw this and repeated his actions, muttering a few words in a low voice and praising the Lord.
Then, their expression became solemn and they raised their head, ready to jump over the high wall and sneak into the mansion.
However, just then, a change occurred.
"Be careful! There is an ambush!", the Priest yelled to remind his companions, as he saw something moving from the corner of his eyes.
Unfortunately, it was too late.
"Swoosh!"
A sharp sound was heard and from the darkness, an extremely fast creature poked out and pounced on one of of them with no hesitation.
Before anyone could react, the creature had appeared in front of the man and waved its paws, its claws flashing with a dazzling light under the shining moon.
"Bang!"
The claws landed on the man's neck and penetrated through it as if it was made out of paper, causing his body to fall to the ground and bring up dust.
Then, the black creature didn't stay any longer, but hurriedly escaped.
"How dare you?!"
Staring at the escaping little black cat that killed their companion, the eyes of everyone flashed with a red light, filled with ferocity and containing boundless murderous intent. Find adventures on My Virtual Library Empire
In anger, they brandished their weapons and wanted to step forward to stop it.
However, it was clear that this murderer had accomplices with it!
Just when they were about to stop it from escaping, a red flag flashed out of the darkness and arrived right in front of them.
With a flutter, a strange red liquid flew out out of the flag and wrapped most of these people up, creating a cage made out of blood and trapping them inside.
Then, the red flag flew inside the cage.
When the Priest saw this, he waved the golden scepter that he held in his right hand and muttered a few words in a low voice, wanting to break this cage and free his companions.
Unfortunately, the ambush seemed to have been premeditated and didn't give him any chance.
"Roar!", the growling of an animal was heard and many black tentacles covered in a strange liquid flew out of the darkness, falling towards him.
In response, the Priest could only step back and dodge the incoming tentacles.
"Bang!"
The tentacles hit the ground and made many small depressions on it, while the owner of these tentacles finally showed themselves.
It was a woman that walked on all fours, with black tentacles instead of hair and sharp, long nails coming out of her hands.
The woman's eyes were filled with madness and cruelty, and as if the Priest was her mortal enemy, she stepped on the ground and pounced on him.
Seeing this, the Priest waved the scepter in his hand and created a golden, semi-transparent shield in front of him, while a golden light appeared on his feet and he ran away, wanting to open some distance with this humanoid monster.
But this action also served to separate him from his remaining companions.
