Chapter 143: Death Crown
Chu Wuyao walked calmly with her hands behind her back, while there was a large river with a transparent liquid on her left.
The river was turbulent and many waves were rushing forward, rushing towards the direction that Chu Wuyao was walking towards.
Chu Wuyao didn't look at the river but stared expressionlessly at the small fish that was floating in her hand.
This fish was black in color and had many white lines on its surface, and although it was out of the water, it was still quite "lively".
It was said to be "lively" because its eyes were lifeless, while there was a lack of vitality in its body.
This fish was one of the test subjects of Chu Wuyao, which she summoned in order to experiment with the white river.
By now, she had understood that this river's effects would depend on the state of the creature that was thrown in.
If the creature was dead, then they would turn into mindless puppets that only know how to kill everything around them.
On the other hand, if the creature was alive, the river would gradually wash away their memories while they are soaking in it until they completely forget who they are.
The second effect didn't seem to be scary on its own, but when coupled with the fact that it was almost impossible for the creatures that got in the river to get out, it meant that it was a death sentence.
Granted, Chu Wuyao suspected that the river would only affect creatures that were not too strong and it was likely that it would not be able to affect her.
Of course, since she wasn't in a hurry to die yet, she didn't dare to jump in.
"Let's see where this river leads.", Chu Wuyao muttered and clenched her fist, crushing the fist that was swimming in her palm.
Then, she followed the direction that the waves were rushing towards.
She had a hunch that doing so would lead her to the core of the formation, or at the very least, she would be able to find clues about its location.
Perhaps she was unlucky, as Chu Wuyao didn't meet any "normal" creature throughout her journey.
Instead, she met many creatures that had been washed up by the river.
These creatures were mostly humans that had turned into puppets or had lost their memories and forgotten who they truly were.
But there were still a few demons among these creatures, confirming Chu Wuyao's guess that the members of the Demon Cult had been transported to this place too.
However, Chu Wuyao didn't care whether they were humans or demons and just let Li Ruoshi take care of them.
In her eyes, no matter whether they had been turned into puppets or had lost their memories, these people were completely dead.
While cleaning this place up, Chu Wuyao continued walking forward slowly.
Just when she thought that everything would continue going on like this, a loud noise rang in her ears, while in her perception, she noticed two strong auras coming from in front of her.
These auras had obviously reached the Holy Realm, but they were still weaker than the aura of the two Popes in the distance.
The two Holy Realm auras collided with each other and it was clear that they were fighting.
Although one of these auras was unfamiliar to her, Chu Wuyao could recognize the owner of the other aura and knew that she was a High Priest of the Holy Church, Irene.
At the same time, Chu Wuyao knew that to be able to fight against her, the other person should also be a Holy Realm practitioner.
Feeling the two auras, she didn't rush forward to help Irene, but pushed her Camouflage ability to the limit, before walking forward.
Soon, she arrived at the place where the fight was taking place and discovered two figures that were fighting against each other.
One of these two figures was a middle-aged woman who wore the golden robe of the Holy Church, while on the opposite side stood a humanoid creature.
This creature had a human face and body, but two large wings extended from its back, revealing its identity as a demon.
The demon wore a long black robe and it flapped its wings to float in the air, while it continuously attacked Irene who stood on the ground.
The demon continuously cast spells that fell towards Irene, while from time to time, it would use its giant black wings to attack her. Discover exclusive tales on My Virtual Library Empire
Irene had trouble dealing with the demon, and she could only create shields made out of light in front of her to defend against its attacks.
Chu Wuyao found a place to hide herself and calmly observed the battle.
She could see that the demon was much stronger than Irene, but because of its ability to fly in the air, it was able to steadily suppress her.
Of course, as a Holy Realm practitioner, Irene could also fly in the air, but clearly, she was afraid of the formation and didn't.
Seeing this, Chu Wuyao made a quick judgment: if nothing changed, Irene would be seriously injured, if not die.
"Bang! Boom!"
The red land below the two figures shook violently, but the demon didn't stop its attacks, as if it wouldn't rest if it didn't kill its opponents.
Its efforts seemed to yield results and soon, Irene's aura started fluctuating, while her ability to cast spells was compromised.
Slowly, she fell into a disadvantage and she was no longer able to keep up with the demon's speed.
If anyone were to look at this scene, they would think that Irene was bound to die soon, but Chu Wuyao thought otherwise.
She believed that as the High Priest of the Holy Church, Irene should have a trump card to deal with the current situation.
Even if she wasn't able to turn the fight around, she should at least be able to escape in exchange for a few injuries.
With this in mind, she still didn't step out of her hiding place but raised her head to see what would happen next.
Indeed, not long after, Chu Wuyao's guess proved to be correct.
Facing the manic attacks of the demon, Irene realized that she could no longer waste time.
A look of hesitation flashed on her face, but soon, this look turned into determination and she waved her hand.
In response to her movements, a crown appeared in front of her.
The crown was black in color and shone with an ominous dark light, while it exuded a majestic, high-level aura.
The images of many creatures were engraved on its surface and its jagged edges were extremely sharp.
The moment this crown appeared, the surrounding light seemed to gather towards it and got absorbed.
Irene grabbed this ominous crown with her hands and gently placed it on her head.
As she did, her face turned pale and she had to grit her teeth to bear the pain, while the dark light on the crown shone even brighter.
Despite this, however, Irene's aura stopped fluctuating and she not only recovered but even got stronger.
In the blink of an eye, Chu Wuyao could sense that her aura had almost surpassed the Holy Realm, roughly matching the aura of the two Popes in the distance.
On the other side, the demon in the sky seemed to recognize this ominous crown and a horrified expression appeared on its human face.
It immediately flapped its wings and turned around to escape, but it was already too late.
With a painful expression on her face, Irene waved her hand casually, and in response, black light gathered in front of her.
This black light twisted at an extremely fast speed and seemed to create a large hole in this space, causing the area around it to tremble.
The red land below cracked and pieces of red rocks flew everywhere, before flying towards the black hole in front of Irene.
The dark light didn't stop there but continued spinning and attracting everything towards it.
In the distance, the demon had just turned around, when it felt that it had lost control of its body.
The next moment, it could no longer control itself and flew towards the black hole.
"Bang!"
A sound of explosion sounded as it fell inside, followed by a rain of blood that fell to the ground.
This rain of blood seemed to signify this demon's death, as its aura soon disappeared.
Unfortunately, even though she killed her opponent, Irene wasn't in the mood to celebrate.
After she used the ominous crown, she seemed to have suffered a backlash, as most of her hair turned white, while the skin on her face squirmed and many wrinkles appeared on it.
Her body trembled, and soon, she was no longer able to support herself and fell to the ground.
With her fall, the black crown on her head also dropped to the ground, causing the black hole in the air to disappear.
"Is it finally over?", Chu Wuyao couldn't help but think and was about to step forward, when a change occurred.
The crown on the ground suddenly shook and the next moment, it rushed towards her direction.
Before she could react, the dark crown had fallen in her hands.
