vol. 5 chapter 17 - Copy Hero 2.0
Within the independent space, thunder roared and lightning flashed, illuminating the vast arena as Leon and Odin clashed. The space was expansive enough to accommodate their explosive battle without being restrictive.
Leon stuck to his usual strategy, opening with Thousand Birds to test Odin’s reactions. His enhanced body allowed him to execute this technique with precision, speed, and a devastating impact that had left many opponents stunned in past battles.
Yet, this opponent was different.
Odin started with basic techniques, engaging Leon in close combat with remarkable ease. As the fight progressed, Odin shifted to a passive strategy, relying on deft dodges and minimal defensive maneuvers.
What truly unnerved Leon was how Odin managed to keep up with his speed and evade each strike of the Thousand Birds with precise timing.
Even as lightning arced dangerously close to Odin’s robes, burning them in places, he remained unscathed.
Despite his admiration for Odin’s skill, frustration began to creep into Leon’s mind.
“Your attacks are sharp,” Odin remarked calmly, dodging another arc of lightning. “If I weren’t so nimble, I would’ve been taken out by that Thousand Birds of yours.”
“Come on, old man,” Leon retorted with a grin. “Give me a little credit! This move has been the nightmare of dragon kings for years.”
“True,” Odin replied, sidestepping effortlessly. “But don’t forget—while offense can be the best defense, neglecting the fundamentals can leave you vulnerable.”
As he spoke, Odin suddenly stopped, sidestepping another attack and countering with a simple but devastating Iron Mountain Lean.
The force of the impact sent Leon flying across the arena. He crashed into the wall of the arena with enough power to create cracks radiating outward.
The audience erupted in astonishment.
“I thought the Thousand Birds was one of Leon’s signature moves,” one observer said. “Didn’t he use it to take down several dragon lords in previous battles?”
“Yeah, but he couldn’t land a single hit on Odin,” another chimed in. “And then he got countered by something as basic as an Iron Mountain Lean!”
“Do you think this fight will end in under ten minutes? It’s looking less exciting than we thought…”
“Impossible. This is just the beginning.”
In the VIP viewing area of the Twilight Tower, the dragon kings remained composed, unimpressed by what they considered a warm-up.
It was clear to those familiar with high-level combat that both Leon and Odin were still testing each other.
Even Leon’s crash into the wall seemed to be part of his plan.
On the recording stone, Leon could be seen prying himself out of the fractured wall. The dragon horns on his head were heavily cracked, and the stone around him crumbled away as he moved.
Jumping down from the wall, Leon dusted off the debris and stretched his arm experimentally. His expression was calm, as though the hit hadn’t fazed him at all.
Odin, observing Leon’s demeanor, immediately understood what had happened.
“So you weren’t neglecting your defense—you deliberately created an opening, didn’t you?”
Leon smiled, not bothering to deny it. “That’s right, old man.”
Odin chuckled softly. “And how did you find the strength of my strike?”
“Very strong!” Leon replied. “If I hadn’t prepared myself on the pillar beforehand, I’d probably still be spinning through the air. Your attack was so fast, I almost didn’t react in time.”
The first part of Leon’s response was an honest compliment, but the latter half was a polite exaggeration. Odin could tell that Leon had been fully prepared to counter the attack if needed.
“I figured that if my attacks couldn’t land, I might as well change tactics,” Leon said as he began to walk toward Odin.
“I’m not great at defense, so I decided to bait you into attacking. It also gave me a chance to gauge your strength.”
As he closed the distance, Leon stopped and drew a short dagger from his waist.
“Now, old man… no hard feelings about earlier,” he said with a grin.
The moment the words left his mouth, Leon leaped into the air with incredible speed.
Odin barely had time to register the movement. Leon vanished from sight, his jump so sudden that even the shockwave from his takeoff left the ground slightly sunken.
Looking up, Odin saw Leon above him, his right hand glowing with a heavily charged Thousand Birds. This ✪ Nоvеlіgһt ✪ (Official version) version was significantly more potent, the crackling of the magic sharper and more intense.
Leon was going all out.
But Odin remained calm.
“Attacking from the air means you’re relying entirely on the momentum of your fall for impact,” Odin observed. “Even if I stand here and defend, you won’t be able to deal significant damage.”
Still, Odin decided to test Leon. Channeling his own magic, he summoned a lightning armor that covered his body in crackling electricity.
As Leon’s dive grew closer, Odin thought, If this is just a straightforward plunge, it really is nothing more than throwing eggs against a rock, boy.
But Leon wasn’t one to let any opponent down—especially not Odin.
As he neared Odin, Leon’s left hand also began to glow.
“Two-handed Thousand Birds? No… that’s not the starting stance…”
Odin’s eyes widened. “That’s… Thunder Wolf Breakthrough!”
In mid-air, Leon unleashed the Thunder Wolf Breakthrough with his left hand, sending a massive surge of energy downward. The force of the magic propelled Leon’s body even faster, drastically increasing his speed and the potential impact of his next attack.
Then he fired a second Thunder Wolf Breakthrough, accelerating even further.
The repeated bursts of energy made Leon appear like a blue meteor streaking toward Odin.
With a deafening roar, Leon collided with Odin’s position, sending up a massive plume of dust and debris. The shockwave from the impact rippled through the arena, leaving everyone watching in stunned silence.
As the dust settled, the recording stone revealed the aftermath. Leon and Odin had separated, standing at a distance from each other.
Leon appeared calm, his gaze steady as he studied Odin.
Odin, meanwhile, showed no visible injuries, but his arms shimmered faintly with lightning, revealing cracks in his previously flawless armor.
It was clear that Odin had concentrated his lightning armor on his arms to absorb the brunt of Leon’s attack. Without it, he likely wouldn’t have emerged unscathed.
“Using the recoil from the Thunder Wolf Breakthrough to accelerate multiple times… a very creative approach. I wouldn’t have thought of it,” Odin said, nodding in approval.
Leon chuckled modestly. “It wasn’t entirely my idea.”
“Oh? Then whose was it?”
“My eldest daughter. She gave me the inspiration.”
Odin’s approval deepened. “Impressive. Well then… it seems I’ll have to get serious now. Be ready, Leon.”
Hearing this, Leon steadied his stance, gripping his dagger tightly.
“Bring it on, old man.”
