Chapter 140: Chapter 94: The Final Chapter of War and Voldemort
Chapter 94: The Final Chapter of War and Voldemort
Unlike the rough corridor outside, the chamber's stone pathway was intricately polished, flanked by exquisitely eerie statues of basilisk serpents.
Beneath the statues were flowing water channels resembling twin moats, trickling slowly. The damp, chilly air provided the perfect environment for serpents.
Chu Yang walked forward step by step. At the center of the chamber stood a massive stone carving of a human face. Without a doubt, the face belonged to the legendary Salazar Slytherin.
Behind the statue lay the basilisk's lair.
The mechanism to open it, like the one in the bathroom above, required Parseltongue to activate. However, Chu Yang opted for a more direct approach.
He formed hand seals.
Earth Release: Earth Splitting Palm.
Placing both hands on the ground, Chu Yang caused sections of the floor to collapse. The Salazar Slytherin statue shattered with a thunderous crash. Behind the rubble, a dark crevice was revealed.
Hissssss...
The sound of a serpent slithering and hissing reached Chu Yang's ears.
Moments later, a massive creature silently emerged from the darkness.
The basilisk was enormous, with a girth of nearly two meters. Coiled and towering, it gazed down at Chu Yang with an air of menace.
Chu Yang kept his eyes closed, avoiding direct eye contact. The basilisk's eyes, like the mythical Medusa's, could kill with a direct stare and petrify indirectly.
A hint of mocking humanity flickered deep within the basilisk's pupils as it slowly slithered toward Chu Yang.
Though his eyes were shut, Chu Yang's Observation Haki was fully active, perceiving the basilisk's every movement. A faint smile appeared on his lips.
Suddenly!
The ground surged upward.
Emerald vines burst from the earth, wrapping around the basilisk like chains, pinning it in place.
The enraged basilisk twisted and thrashed, attempting to free itself from the encroaching vines. Its furious roars echoed through the chamber.
Yet...
The more the basilisk struggled, the more vines emerged, tightening their grip.
After its fierce resistance, the basilisk opened its massive jaws and began spewing venom.
A pungent stench filled the air, making Chu Yang slightly dizzy. He stepped back a few paces.
The venom began corroding the vines coiled around the basilisk.
Seeing this, Chu Yang smiled. He had intentionally delayed killing the basilisk to extract as much venom as possible.
Aside from destroying Horcruxes, the basilisk's venom had numerous other uses, and Chu Yang planned to collect a large amount.
Moments later, the basilisk realized something was amiss. No matter how much venom it released to dissolve the vines, more would sprout in their place.
Abandoning its venom, it used its last strength to thrash wildly.
"Smart, but still too late..."
Chu Yang muttered. He increased his chakra output, causing the vines to grow into massive trees that pinned the basilisk to the ground. The trees grew larger and larger until they completely engulfed the basilisk's body, breaking through the chamber's ceiling.
Chu Yang collected most of the venom the basilisk had released in its final moments, while the rest trickled into the chamber's water channels.
Concerned the water might circulate to the school, Chu Yang decided to destroy the entire chamber.
The resulting tremors reached even the Slytherin dormitory.
Snape, mistaking it for an earthquake, quickly ordered students to evacuate to the courtyard.
Midway through their evacuation, the tremors ceased, leaving the students standing in the corridor, puzzled.
Snape frowned deeply.
Meanwhile, Chu Yang had returned to the small hut. Shortly afterward, Dumbledore and Sirius arrived, bringing with them the last Horcrux—Slytherin's locket.
"All the Horcruxes are gathered," Dumbledore said with relief, finally setting down the heavy burden on his heart.
"Headmaster Dumbledore, I found this in the Forbidden Forest. It might be useful against the Horcruxes."
Chu Yang handed a bottle of basilisk venom to Dumbledore.
Dumbledore examined the venom closely before pouring it onto an ornate silver artifact.
The artifact melted instantly.
Eyes lighting up, Dumbledore nodded. "Such potent venom can indeed damage Horcruxes."
A Horcrux, once damaged beyond repair, would completely destroy the soul fragment housed within.
"So, as long as we deal with Harry's situation, all of Voldemort's Horcruxes can be destroyed?" Sirius asked, astonished. Despite Dumbledore's earlier explanations, it was still hard for him to believe.
"I feel like I'm dreaming too," Dumbledore said meaningfully, glancing at Chu Yang.
"With Voldemort in his current state, it's impossible for him to create new Horcruxes anytime soon," Dumbledore continued.
Sirius frowned. "Then he's just a mortal now, a single life. But how do we kill him again?"
If Voldemort chose to hide, no one might find him, as had been the case for the past decade.
Dumbledore smiled. "My actions aren't entirely secret. Someone in the Ministry must have guessed my intentions. Voldemort will soon hear of this."
Dumbledore implied that certain individuals in the Ministry were remnants of the Death Eaters.
Chu Yang frowned. "You let them find out on purpose? That's too dangerous, even if it's to lure out Voldemort."
"It is indeed dangerous. Without your help, this could have been the worst decision of my life," Dumbledore admitted, grateful. "But fortunately, everything went smoothly."
"How many in the Ministry are connected to Voldemort?" Sirius asked.
Dumbledore shook his head. "Perhaps one or two, perhaps more..."
With the Horcruxes as Voldemort's final trump card, he would stop at nothing once he confirmed their destruction. The hidden Death Eaters would also become increasingly desperate and unhinged.
They might even target all of Hogwarts' students and staff.
To protect Harry, Dumbledore had sent him to the Forbidden Forest, avoiding any potential distractions.
Taking a bottle of venom, Dumbledore returned to the school to focus entirely on refining his spellwork.
Sirius stayed behind at the hut.
A week later, the Ministry unexpectedly sent inspectors to Hogwarts, spending an entire day there, lingering longest in the headmaster's office as though searching for something.
After they left, Dumbledore convened the faculty, explaining the situation and declaring a state of emergency at Hogwarts.
Soon after, reports emerged of a mass breakout from Azkaban.
"Don't worry, Harry. Close your eyes and take a deep breath."
"It might be uncomfortable, but you must endure until the ritual is complete."
Nervously, Harry closed his eyes.
Dumbledore stood opposite him, guiding him step by step. He had perfected the spell, and today was the day to eliminate Voldemort's soul fragment within Harry.
From afar, Sirius watched, looking more anxious than Harry himself.
Hagrid kept Hermione and Ron in the hut, fearing they might disrupt the ritual.
Peeking through the window, Ron grumbled, "Why does Yang get to be outside?"
"Because he passed the OWL exams," Hermione said enviously.
"What exams?" Ron asked, confused.
Hermione rolled her eyes, turning away in exasperation.
In reality, Chu Yang not only passed the OWL exams but had also taken and passed the NEWT exams under Dumbledore's special permission. However, Chu Yang only admitted to passing the former to avoid unnecessary attention.
Dumbledore began casting the spell. Blue streams of magic flowed from his wand, circling in the air before gradually entering Harry's body.
Suddenly, Harry's entire body erupted with a blinding light.
Painful groans escaped his lips, followed by a series of muffled grunts.
The process of tearing apart the soul fragment was far more agonizing than Harry had imagined—it was nothing like the "mild discomfort" Dumbledore had mentioned earlier.
Yet in his current state, Harry had no capacity to hold Dumbledore accountable. All that escaped his mouth were meaningless murmurs.
Despite the pain, the results were undeniable.
Chu Yang could already see a smoke-like, amorphous entity gradually emerging from Harry's body—the soul fragment of Voldemort.
Once the fragment lost its host, it would dissipate rapidly.
Throughout the process, Harry's soul itself remained unaffected, though his body endured significant suffering.
Dumbledore raised his wand high, his voice rising sharply as if his magic formed a pair of enormous hands, forcefully dragging out the soul fragment.
In a flash, the remaining fragment was yanked out in one decisive move.
The light vanished.
Harry collapsed to the ground, eyes closing as he fell unconscious.
Sirius rushed forward in a flash, checking Harry's body.
Fortunately, Harry's breathing was steady, and he appeared as though he were merely asleep.
Dumbledore wiped the sweat from his forehead, suddenly noticing something at his feet. Turning, he saw Chu Yang had brought over a chair.
"Thank you." Dumbledore sat down slowly, taking a few deep breaths before explaining, "Most Horcruxes are now almost completely disconnected from Voldemort due to the passage of time, but the soul fragment in Harry was different."
Chu Yang asked, "Did Voldemort sense what happened here?"
Dumbledore nodded. "He will likely come soon. Before that, we must deal with the remaining Horcruxes."
With that, he placed all the Horcruxes on the ground and poured basilisk venom over them.
Hiss…
The sound of corrosion filled the air, followed by piercing, wailing screams from the Horcruxes. Like living creatures, their cries were full of terror.
As the venom ran out, the screams gradually stopped. All the Horcruxes deformed under the corrosive liquid, oozing a bright red substance resembling blood.
Chu Yang waved his wand, and the ground caved in.
He buried the Horcruxes, the soil closing over them and restoring the ground to its original state.
