Chapter 571: 570: Grin
Corey sat on the bed in his room with his legs crossed and his arms folded as he looked at Brandon who sat on the only chair in the room with a small smile on his lips.
"I must apologize." Brandon said as he nudged up his glasses, "I took you for an uncultured barbarian with no bit of courtesy and manners, but I was wrong."
Brandon with a light smile and tone, and though he was apologizing, Corey could sense not an iota of sincerity in the man's voice.
However, Corey did not care about this. What he cared about was the message the messenger had passed to him.
"I'm confused by your message… Mr. Brandon."
Brandon's lips curled up slightly when he heard how Corey addressed him, and Corey also maintained a light smile as he said these words.
'Sometimes the best way to deal with people like him is to inflate their ego, and then they'll willingly spill out what you want with ease.' Corey thought with a calculating and cunning glint hidden in his eyes.
"What exactly are you confused about, Mr. Smile Reaper?" Brandon asked while shifting in his seat slightly to take a more comfortable position.
"Well, first of all, I don't know Prince Zeran Aldric. I've never met him before and I'm quite surprised he'll want to meet me. From the way you speak so highly of him, I'm certain he's a powerful and intelligent man… right?"
Corey paused, and Brandon nodded with a smile as he stroked his beard. "You're absolutely right."
Corey nodded, "I guessed as much… Now, what I don't understand is why somebody as powerful and intelligent as your Lord would choose me to participate in a battle against a great and mighty being of this world."
"As we both know, I'm just a Tier 2 Outsider, and compared to Prince Zeran Aldric… I'm an ant."
Brandon nodded with a soft chuckle he could not contain. He exhaled softly, and then he shrugged.
"I have no idea why my Lord chose you to participate in the Great Battle, but what I do know is that if he chose you, then he has his reasons which are definitely profound and cannot be comprehended by you or anybody." Stay updated through My Virtual Library Empire

'Or your so called Lord wants to use me and you as meat shield or distractions in the battle against this great and mighty being.'
For a moment, Corey almost failed to control himself and wanted to scoff, but he knew doing so would be detrimental to getting the information he wanted. He exhaled deeply, and then he spoke.
"What are the benefits of participating in this battle? We both know that there's no way I'll choose to risk my life for nothing."
Brandon smiled when he heard this, and he stroked his beard as he replied. "My Lord offers a green-grade artifact from the Scorching Sun Kingdom as a reward. He also says that if your performance in the battle is more than satisfactory or beyond his expectations, he'll increase the reward."
When Corey heard this, a slightly surprised expression appeared on his face.
'A green grade artifact? That's quite a generous offer to give a Tier 2. That's an artifact with mystic properties… And he also says it's from the Scorching Sun Kingdom. I don't know if that means anything important, to be honest, but if I'm to guess, it'll have abilities related to fire or the sun?'
'Also, is the prince offering a green-grade artifact to everybody? Or is he a green-grade artifact to me or me, Divine, and Melissa?'
Corey furrowed his brows with a thoughtful expression for a few seconds, and then he asked another question that was on his mind.
"Who or what is this great and mighty being we're going to fight?"
Brandon shrugged slightly, "I have no idea. When Prince Zerac desires, he'll tell us and he'll lead us to an overwhelming victory against his foe."
This time around, Corey could not stop himself and his lips twitched when he heard Brandon's words.
'Okay, what the hell did this Prince Zeran do to this man? What type of mind manipulation skill or power is this? It's too frightening, damn it.'
Corey maintained a calm and stoic expression as he had this thought. A second later, he looked down with a pondering expression.
'Although I wasn't expecting much, I'm still kind of disappointed that he doesn't know what or who this great and mighty being is.'
'Prince Zeran is most likely a Tier 5 or at least a Tier 4, so the great and mighty being is either a Principality, Power, Ascendant, or Dreadkeeper… Hmm… It'd be nice if what he wants to fight has the last Infinity Crystal which is the Fire Infinity Crystal or it's in the vicinity of the Fire Infinity Crystal.'
Although Corey had this thought, a thought suddenly came to his mind, but he shook it off and threw it to the back of his mind.
'Surely, the great and powerful being is not the Throne… right?'
Corey exhaled softly, and then he glanced at Brandon for two seconds before speaking.
"One last question before I give you my answer."
"Ask away."
"Do you know how Prince Zeran got to know of me?" Corey asked, and just as Corey expected, Brandon shook his head.
"I don't. My Lord has his ways." Brandon said with a reverent tone, and Corey leaned back with a pondering expression.
The room became silent for some seconds, and the only sound that could be heard was the sound of Corey's fingers tapping his arm.
Approximately ten seconds later, he spoke.
"I'm interested in meeting Prince Zeran, but I'll have to speak with my companions before coming to a final decision."
Brandon nodded, "I expected much."
After saying this, he removed a sealed envelope from his breast pocket and handed it to Corey.
"There's an invitation card inside. Come to the Mirstone Suite on the fifteenth floor with the invitation card if you still desire to participate in the Great Battle."
Corey glanced at the envelope for a second, and his eyes flashed with a white light for a fraction of a second before he took the envelope from Brandon's hand.
"Alright." Corey nodded slightly, and Brandon smiled in response.
He stood and patted his body to straighten his clothes. "My meeting with you was better than I expected, Mr.Smile Reaper. My Lord would be delighted if you and your companions accept his invitation to the Great Battle."
Corey nodded, and then Brandon walked to the door, opened it, and walked out of the room.
Corey stood by the door and stared at Brandon till he was out of his sight. He remained standing by the door for some seconds with a calculating light in his eyes, and then he turned to enter the room.
However, when he did, he heard the sound of a door opening and he looked at one of the rooms in the hallway.
To his slight surprise, Javier walked out of the room while buttoning his rough shirt and fixing his hair with a happy and proud grin on his face. Corey shook his head when he saw this, and without wanting to see or be involved in any drama, he entered his room.
The moment the door to his room closed, Javier's stomach moved and twisted like a snake, however, Javier seemed to not realize this and he walked to the first floor of the inn with the same grin on his face.
