Chapter 570: 569: Messenger
"Good day, Mr. Smile Reaper. My name is Brandon, and I'm here to offer you an invitation and an opportunity."
As Corey heard these words, the first thing he did was to observe the man before him called Brandon once again.
Brandon was a bald man with a long, neatly kept beard that reached down to his chest. Thin glasses rested on his nose, giving him a sharp but approachable look. He wore a dark gray coat over a plain black vest and white shirt.
His shoes were also polished, and in Corey's eyes, the man called Brandon seemed like a butler, however, Corey he was not.
He could sense and see that Brandon was adventurer based on the way he stood, the way he looked at him, and the way he breathed.
Corey could also rune tattoos on his hands and neck, and through his senses, Corey knew that the man before was a Seeker- A Tainted at the third stage of the Rune Tattoo System.
Three seconds passed in silence after Brandon introduced himself, and just as Brandon was beginning to get imaptient, Corey spoke.
"What do you want?" He asked with an indifferent tone and expression, and Brandon's lips twitched.
An expression of disdain appeared on his face, but a second later, it left just as fast as it came. He cleared his throat, and then he spoke.
"I'm a messenger from Prince Zeran Aldric of the great Scorching Sun Kingdom, and at the behest of my Lord, I have come to give you and your companions an invitation to join Prince Zeran in a battle against a great and mighty being of this world." Brandon spoke with a fervent and adoring expression and tone.
Corey had a blank expression, and he could not help but be taken aback by the words of Brandon. Although he didn't know what to expect, his mind never expected Brandon to relay such words to him.
'Prince Zerac Aldric? Scorching Sun Kingdom? Your Lord? A battle against a great and mighty being of… this world?... What the fuck is going on?'
Corey found himself getting truly confused and 'overwhelmed' by what he just heard, and he needed a full second to get himself. When he did, he started pondering on ever single word Brandon said.
'I don't know who Prince Zeran Aldric is, but I've heard of the Scorching Sun Kingdom from Divine. It was one of the many organizations he mentioned… Unfortunately, the only thing I know about them is their name and that they exist.'
'I don't even know how this Prince Zeran Aldric looks like.'
Corey frowned deeply, and then he glanced at Brandon with a suspicious look in his eyes.
'He's a Tainted, but he called this Prince Zeran who is obviously not a Tainted but an Outsider his Lord. There's something really wrong with that.'
'Although I didn't interact much with Tainteds, from what I know, Tainteds don't like Outsiders and 99.9999999% of Tainteds would rather die than call an Outsider their Lord… unless it benefits the Tainteds to a massive degree… or…'
Corey paused in his thoughts, and his eyes flashed with a white light before returning back to normal. The flash was so fast and instantenous that Brandon thought his eyes were playing tricks on him.
'What was that light?' Brandon rubbed his eyes with a baffled expression. Meanwhile, Corey had a frown. 'Hmm. Nothing.'
He had activated his Eyes of Omniscience for a fraction of a second to try and see if he could find anything that was wrong with Brandon, but he saw nothing.
Just as he was about to give up, a sudden thought was brought to his main consciousness by his Stars of Consciousness, and Corey decided to give it a try.
His violet-blue eyes glowed, and Corey's vision changed. His left eye which was sky blue became slightly brighter, and his right eye which was a deep shade of violet became darker.
As the light in Corey's eyes changed, he noticed something different above Brandon, and when he did, Corey came to several conclusions and he felt he was right.
Before the Battle of Chosens commenced, Corey had always been practicing lightly with his Eyes of Dreams and Nightmares.
His Eyes of Dreams and Nightmares allowed him to passively see a cloud of either dreams or nightmares, or a mixture of dreams and nightmares, above the individual he was looking at.
Corey was not fully certain on what he could do with a cloud of dreams and nightmares, although he had some ideas, they were not verified. Also, he was not completely sure what made an individual to have a cloud of dream or a cloud of nightmare or a cloud of both dreams and nightmares above their head.
There could be so many reasons to this, and Corey had not been find any information on Dreams and Nightmares, or anything related to it.
However, what Corey knew was that it was extremely annoying and stressful to be seeing the dreams and nightmares of the people around him, and after practicing for some time, he was able to deactivate this ability.
At the moment, what his Stars of Consciousness came up with was to activate this passive ability and see if the dreams or nightmares of Brandon… or to see if Brandon had dreams or nightmares.
Although this might seem strange and pointless to most, one thing about the passive ability of his Eyes of Dreams and Nightmares was that only living and conscious beings had a cloud of dreams and nightmares above them.
As Corey activated this passive ability back, he saw a black cloud of nightmares hovering and churning above Brandon's head, however, this cloud was engulfed by a golden barrier made of golden flames.
Corey stared at the golden flame barrier and the cloud of nightmares for two seconds, and then the glow in his eyes vanished. His eyes went back to normal as he deactivated this passive ability.
'Although I don't really know what that means, I have a guess… Brandon has been manipulated and his mind is no longer his.'
'This messenger said something about a battle against a great and mighty being of this world. Heh, imagine a Tainted calling their world 'This World', I'm sure if he was in his right senses, he would never refer to his world like that… He even called the Scorching Sun Kingdom, 'The Great Scorching Sun Kingdom.'

'Prince Zeran Aldric right… I wonder what you plan on doing and why you came to me.'
Corey's eyes flashed with a cold and calculating light, and with a light smile, he took a step to the side and gestured for Brandon to enter his room.
He wanted to see if he could get more information out of the brainwashed messenger.
