Chapter 301: Section 300 - No Way to Heaven, No Door into the Earth
Vegetable Market, beheading, one kick to the Department Store Building.
"Quiet, everyone be quiet, please calm down, don't panic, don't run around!"
Butler Thompson still maintained his composure, quickly instructing the panicking security and attendants to soothe the guests who were running around like headless chickens within the Manor Main House, yet they could never quite make it outside.
In the midst of the earth shaking, all sorts of things were crashing down.
The large crystal chandelier hanging from the ceiling of the first-floor hall swayed greatly with creaking noises, but thankfully, it hung solidly and showed no sign of falling.
About a minute later, everything gradually returned to calmness. The construction quality of the Manor Main House was pretty decent; aside from a few shattered windowpanes, the main structure remained undamaged, without even noticeable cracks.
Now somewhat reassured, the frightened crowd calmed down a little. Thankfully, no one was seriously injured or lost their life—most injuries were just bruises or minor flesh wounds, easily treated with a spray of iodine and a Band-Aid.
"I can't see anything outside!"
Someone stood by the window, turned on their phone's flashlight to look outside, but all they saw was pitch darkness.
It was as if the world outside the Manor had reached its end, with even the sun vanishing without a trace, plunging the earth into darkness.
A cold, damp wind howled through the broken windows with a mournful sound.
"There's no cell signal!"
Chen Fei took out his phone; before this, despite not being able to make calls, there was at least a signal.
But now, there was not even a signal.
"Mine too, no signal,"
Hanna Gagar took a glance at her own phone. Both her and Chen Fei's phones were customized, durable, reliable, and in addition to connecting to ground signal towers, they could also connect to satellite signals.
Chen Fei, not wanting to waste the satellite data fees and to save battery, always kept the satellite connection off, whereas Hanna Gagar didn't care about such trivial expenses and battery consumption, and usually kept it connected.
However, now there were no signals at all, perhaps some personal hotspots, but they were of no use.
"My phone too..."
Hearing the conversation between Chen Fei and Hanna Gagar, Zuo Gengming took out his own phone to check.
"No signal."
More and more people gradually discovered that their phones had disconnected from the internet.
Not just phones—every communication device that needed a network connection had completely disconnected from the external network, without even the slightest signal.
"Something's not right, this is so wrong!"
Someone yelled loudly.
"We can go out now!"
Someone suddenly discovered with joy that the invisible barrier at the main entrance was gone.
The first to react couldn't wait to rush out, not wanting to stay in this creepy house any longer.
But as soon as they dashed out, a chaos of plop and screams mixed together came back in.
Chen Fei and Hanna Gagar looked at each other and quickly went to the entrance.
Manor Butler Thompson and the security guards followed them closely, worried that the two would try to escape.
After being injected with the Supernatural Ability Suppressant, supernatural power users were not much different from ordinary people, but intentional escape attempts would still cause major headaches.
Upon reaching the entrance of the Manor Main House, Xiao Jiu's Illumination Technique Light Orb also came out, illuminating a greater area and clarifying the situation outside the main house.
It wasn't even the original scenery of the manor anymore, as if they had come to another world.
The lush green grass had turned into a rugged, rocky terrain; the exquisite fountain was nowhere to be seen, only chaotic gigantic rocks.
Many people accidentally tripped on stones or smashed headfirst into boulders, with numerous instances of bloodied heads.
"Where is this?"
Manor Lord Thompson's body hair stood on end, and the attendants and security guards beside him were all visibly shocked.
Chen Fei said to Little Bird perched on Boss Hana's shoulder, "Xiao Jiu, throw a grand Illumination Technique into the sky, the bigger and farther, the better."
Then pointed to the pitch-black sky.
"Chirp!" Your next journey awaits at empire
Pure Light Sparrow gathered light, and countless specks of light converged in front of its tiny beak. A Light Orb the size of a table tennis ball quickly expanded to the size of a basketball, illuminating the surroundings within a hundred-meter radius.
Rocks, rocks, rocks...still rocks!
The still intact-looking Manor Main House was surrounded by countless rocks of all sizes and was not at the center of the "Green Cherry Orchard Estate," as it should be.
The entire estate had completely changed, or perhaps, disappeared.
"Where are we?"
Someone let out a piercing scream from deep within their throat.
"Chirp!"
Xiao Jiu gently pecked, and the basketball-sized light orb floated up lightly like a balloon.
It rose like a small sun, ascending higher and higher, spreading light to farther areas. As the endless darkness was dispelled, everyone's vision suddenly cleared.
There was no more sky, only towering rugged rocks from ceiling to floor, with all the people and the Manor Main House astonishingly situated within an immense rocky space. There were several gigantic holes, so vast that even the basketball-sized enhanced Illumination Technique light orbs could not illuminate their depths. Their interiors stretched into the unknown.
Gasps of shock came in waves.
A manor security guard, pale with fear, trembled as he said, "What exactly has happened to Blue Star? Or is it us that's happened?"
He thought of his family, and tears immediately began to stream down his face.
"It'd be better if it's us that's happened, not Blue Star!"
A waiter nearly burst into tears, teetering on the edge of collapse.
He hoped it wasn't Blue Star that had suffered a great disaster, otherwise what sense was there in struggling on? He almost felt like dying.
Just then, the manor butler Thompson forcefully steadied himself and shouted, "Remember your duties! As long as there's a glimmer of hope, never give up!"
Zuo Gengming sniffled, smelling the cold, damp air, and as if talking to himself said, "It's like we're underground, high humidity, there must be a water source nearby, we also need food."
In such circumstances, big tears and hysterics were utterly pointless. It would be better to conserve precious physical energy and think of ways to save yourselves.
Food?
Those who heard these words nearby paused, immediately understood, turned around, and dashed back into the main house. Ignoring the waiters' attempts to stop them, they frantically looked for any food and water, even coming to blows with each other, totally disregarding the fact that they had thought of each other as bosom friends just moments before.
A fellow in death doesn't mean the demise of a poor monk. As long as one could survive, even if just for a moment longer, who cared about the life or death of others!
"Don't panic, don't panic, there's a shelter in the basement with enough food and drinking water,"
The competent manor butler quickly ordered the panic-stricken security guards to stop the multiple fights.
He opened the door to the basement, indeed finding the refuge below the main house, filled with many stores of food, drinking water, electricity, and other essential survival equipment.
These things were prepared for natural disasters and human calamities, enough to ensure the survival of over a hundred people for at least a year, but unexpectedly, they were needed now.
Seeing the food and water, those who had fallen into despair began to cry with joy, and the sudden fights ceased abruptly; for the moment, no one had to face the dire straits of hunger and cold.
The military contractors and the people of the manor came together again in the foyer of the Manor Main House, where they would have to make choices for survival.
The large crystal chandelier was lit once more, the main house regained its bright lights, and besides the crystal energy backup power system, the basement also housed a miniature Target Nuclear Fusion Energy Tower, sufficient to provide electricity for quite an extensive period.
The noise in the foyer was deafening, many people shouting and arguing with frothing mouths, their faces red, their necks bulging, and veins popping on their foreheads and necks.
Chen Fei and Hanna Gagel also joined in.
Their special abilities were suppressed by drugs, making them essentially no different from normal people. To others, they no longer posed any threat.
After all, in the current situation, without sufficient food and water, trying to escape would likely lead to a dead end.
Zuo Gengming from Spring Field Defense Limited Company approached the two again and quietly asked, "Mr. Chen Fei, Ms. Hanna, which side are you planning to support?"
He subconsciously felt that Chen Fei and Hanna Gagel were more reliable, even though they were still under suspicion for murder.
After a fierce debate, everyone's opinions finally coalesced into two choices.
First, leave the Manor Main House to find a way out, perhaps returning to civilization.
Second, hold the fort and wait for rescue. Surely, someone from Blue Star would notice the anomaly at the Green Cherry Orchard Estate and organize a search and rescue team. Maybe they'd be found soon, and be taken out of here.
Whichever option was chosen, both had certain feasibility but also carried risks. The end result wouldn't be much different.
"Staying here is pointless; might as well go out and take a chance,"
Chen Fei did not want to sit around waiting to die; being brought to this strange place probably was not that simple.
Hanna Gagel said in a grave voice, "The real danger is only just beginning."
From the start, she knew that the assassination of Mr. Xia Ji was far from simple.
Yet, the development of events seemed to be proving her suspicions step by step.
Whether they actively sought a way out or waited for rescue, they would likely have to face significant challenges ahead.
"Is that so?"
Zuo Gengming felt a chill run down his spine.
Crack!
A gunshot sounded, silencing the once-noisy foyer.
"Someone's shooting?"
"Who, who is it? Who's firing?"
The military contractors present were particularly sensitive to the sound of gunfire, unsettled as they tried to discern the direction from which the shot had come.
