Sovereign of the Abyss: Devouring the Multiverse

Chapter 2: Chapter 1: Rebirth in the Abyss

Betrayal and Death

Pain.

A cold steel blade pierced Kael Arcanis's chest, his own blood soaking the sacred altar beneath him. He gasped, struggling for breath as his strength faded.

The one who held the dagger—the woman he loved—stared into his eyes with cold detachment. Her silver hair gleamed under the moonlight, her lips curled in a cruel smirk.

"You were always too trusting, Kael."

Behind her, his brother—his own flesh and blood—watched with folded arms.

"Sacrifices must be made," Jin-Ho murmured. "You should have never been chosen."

Beneath him, the ritual circle flared with blinding golden light. Celestial runes carved into the temple floor ignited, forming a divine binding seal—a ritual designed to offer his very soul to the gods.

It was supposed to be him who ascended.

He had trained, bled, and fought for this moment.

Yet, he had been nothing more than a pawn—a lamb to the slaughter—for their ambitions.

"Damn you both," he rasped, rage burning hotter than the pain.

But his voice was drowned by the celestial choir as the heavens opened.

And then—

Oblivion.

---

Falling into the Void

Kael had no body. No form. No heartbeat.

Only his consciousness remained, drifting endlessly in a black, featureless abyss.

It was neither hot nor cold. Neither silent nor loud.

It simply was.

"Am I… dead?"

He had no voice to ask the question, but the thought echoed through the void.

Then—

Something answered.

A whisper. A presence. A force that had slumbered for eternity yet had now awakened.

「Found... You.」

The universe trembled.

A pulse of impossible energy surged through the darkness, a force older than gods, older than creation itself.

Kael had no words to describe it—only an overwhelming sense of hunger.

And then—it took him.

He was consumed, his soul devoured by the abyss, and in that instant, he ceased to be…

Only to be remade.

---

Rebirth

Kael gasped.

His lungs burned as he drew in a breath—his first breath in this new existence.

A frigid wind bit at his bare skin, sending a shiver down his spine. He was alive.

But something was wrong.

His body—it wasn't human.

He sat up with a groan, blinking against the dim, eerie light. The space around him was… otherworldly.

Towering black obelisks jutted from the ground, their surfaces covered in pulsating crimson runes. Above him, a sky of shifting shadows churned endlessly, dotted with stars that flickered like dying embers.

The ground beneath him was obsidian stone, smooth yet unnervingly warm, as if it were alive.

Then, Kael caught a glimpse of his reflection in the polished surface of the altar.

His breath hitched.

His once-human face was gone.

Replaced by something far more dangerous.

Skin as dark as the abyss itself, etched with blood-red markings that pulsed with unnatural energy. His once-dull black hair had transformed into a wild mane of deep midnight violet, cascading past his shoulders.

Two sharp horns protruded from his forehead, curling slightly at the tips.

His hands—no, his claws—were long, tipped with obsidian-black talons.

And his eyes…

Gone were the dull brown eyes of his past life.

Now, his irises burned with swirling galaxies, like twin stars contained within an endless void.

He wasn't just reborn.

He had become something else.

---

System Activation

Then—

A chime echoed within his mind.

━━━━━━━◇◆◇━━━━━━━

[Initializing...]

━━━━━━━◇◆◇━━━━━━━

A flood of information rushed into Kael's mind, like an unseen force forcefully downloading knowledge into his consciousness.

His vision flickered, and suddenly—

A blue screen materialized before his eyes.

━━━━━━━◇◆◇━━━━━━━

[Voidborn System Activated]

Host: Kael Arcanis

Race: Abyssborn Devourer (??? Tier)

Bloodline: [???]

Assimilation Core: Locked

Abilities: [Analyzing...]

Evolutionary Path: [Error—Unknown]

━━━━━━━◇◆◇━━━━━━━

Kael stared at the floating text in disbelief.

A system?

He had read about these in old cultivation texts. They were artifacts of power, granting their hosts abilities beyond comprehension.

But this one… this wasn't normal.

There were errors, missing data—as if the system itself was not fully unlocked.

And what the hell was an Abyssborn Devourer?

Before he could process it, another screen flashed.

━━━━━━━◇◆◇━━━━━━━

「You are no longer bound by fate.」

「Devour. Evolve. Conquer.」

━━━━━━━◇◆◇━━━━━━━

A shiver ran down Kael's spine.

This was no ordinary system.

This was something primordial.

Something that had existed before gods, before creation itself.

And now… it had chosen him.

A dark smirk played across Kael's lips.

"Well then... let's see what I can do."

With a single thought, he focused on his race description, and a new screen appeared.

━━━━━━━◇◆◇━━━━━━━

[Abyssborn Devourer]

A race that transcends mortality, born from the abyss beyond existence.

Capable of assimilating the powers, traits, and abilities of other races through devouring or dual cultivation.

Bound by an insatiable hunger—to grow stronger, to consume, to evolve.

━━━━━━━◇◆◇━━━━━━━

Kael's grin widened.

"Assimilation, huh?"

His fingertips tingled as raw power pulsed through his veins. He clenched his fists, feeling the overwhelming potential surging within him.

The ones who betrayed him…

The gods who played with mortal fates…

They had no idea what they had just created.

Kael Arcanis was no longer a pawn.

He was no longer human.

And soon…

The multiverse would tremble at his name.
