Space Odyssey: Spectre

Chapter 218: Infirmary

The door slipped open as one of the guards was celebrating. She silently moved in as they celebrated. Unseen from them since the guard's large figure was blocking the door. Salem slowly moved up behind the winning guard with the stun baton at the ready.

"Hey you three, how did it go?" The winning guard asked while chuckling.

"It didn't." Salem answered as she thrust the stun baton into the guards back. He immediately began spasming and collapsed on top of the table. Giving the last three guards who were surprised a good look at who walked in.

After a moment to process the information, all three went for their guns and slightly stood up. Salem kicked the table, sending it flying into the guard sitting across from the winning guard. Knocking that guard on his ass. She then swung the baton at the guard to her right, letting it go. It slammed into the guard's head and there was a distinct crack as the baton broke. The guard went unconscious, collapsing onto the floor.

While Salem grabbed the hand of the last guard. She tightened her grip and forced the guard to reholster his sidearm. She then grabbed his head and slammed it backwards against the reinforced wire glass. A spiderweb of cracks spread across the glass along with a spot of blood.

But Salem ignored it for the time being and moved to the other guard who only got hit by a table. He was on the ground, but she did not hit him hard enough to knock him out. So she reached down and pulled him into the air by the scruff of the neck. She then pulled his stun baton off his belt.

He opened his eyes and looked down at her. "I guess that was never going to work was it." The guard asked and Salem just shook her head.

She then dropped him and stunned him while he was falling. He collapsed on the ground like a bag of bricks. His limbs spread out in all directions while his body spasmed. She looked at him for only a moment before she walked to the terminal.

She began interacting with it. It was not the central system so she did not have control over anything aside from this security block. But she could access the location of prison inmates.

Originally she was stationed in the same secure political wing of the prison. But they quickly realized they could not escape that wing. So they staged a fire that damaged the prison block, forcing the warden to move all occupants to different locations.

Which was how the last week has been as they have been making repairs while she was hit on in various ways. But now that they were separated she had to find the other two and free them. After a moment she frowned at what she found.

Eric Callus, also known as Shepard, was located in solitary confinement deep within the ship. The area was not easily accessed. She would need to get the key card of someone with the appropriate security clearance. There were about three people with that clearance. The ship Captain, Warden, and Chief Guard. None of which were easily accessible.

Then there was Marcus Trentwood. He was located in the infirmary near the hangars. He had been apparently stabbed multiple times and was injured. Apparently a soldier with a grudge against his father had used a utensil while in the cafeteria. He would be easy enough to get out. There would be extra guards near the infirmary but she could take care of that.

She started typing on the computer quickly. Programming a time delayed virus that would corrupt all of the prison ship's systems. It would unleash mayhem upon the entire ship and would provide an opportunity for her to escape with Marcus at the very least.

She stepped out of the guard area and walked to a door. She scanned the fob and began making her way down the halls. Keeping her face hidden with a hat from one of the guards she managed to make it to the hallway where the infirmary was located without an issue. But as she peaked around the corner she frowned at what she saw. Or rather frowned at what she did not see.

She could not see any guards near the infirmary. After a moment she leaned away and instead could pick up the faint movement of feet. She moved back and hid in an alcove and watched as a group of guards passed by her alcove.

Salem saw them completely armored in Vexical Military armor, but they had weapons made to stun or taser the opponent. Following behind them was the Warden.

Had they discovered her escape? But how did they know to come here and now? She herself only made the decision on the spot since she had learned from Shepard how important it was to get Marcus out of here.

She quietly waited and listened. "It was just as you said. We left it unguarded and they went right in. How did you know he would attempt to escape through the solitary confinement area?" One of the guards asked in a quiet voice as they walked past.

It sounded like Shepard had managed to escape his cell. She did not know how but that spymaster must really know a thing or two. Because he somehow managed it.

"I knew Mister Callus wanted to be in solitary confinement but I also had no clue how he planned to escape. Which is why I permitted it. I want to make this prison more secure, so I will need to know how he escaped." The Warden explained, "I knew it was only a matter of time after Marcus was injured. Fortunately I kept word about him being injured from getting to the other one, they brought in. Otherwise this would be a disaster in the making." They moved past the alcove she was hiding in completely without noticing her.

Oh… only if you knew, Warden.
