SSS Class Awakening: Start With A God-Level Choice System

Chapter 137: War Against The Demon Race

Glancing at the arrows that were enchanted by runes, Veylan didn't wait for Elyndra, Mira, and Isolde to take action, as he knew that they were brought here to train themselves.

The purpose of training would be lost if they were to make a move against such weak fodder, so Veylan grabbed the hilt of his greatsword and pulled it out from its sheath.

Unsheathing his greatsword, Veylan channeled his mana essence into his sword as well as the power of the Fortress Sigil, Fang Sigil, and Storm Sigil.

He jumped and dismounted from his horse as he leaped towards the arrow rain.

"Storm Fang Wave!"

Swinging his greatsword, a sword wave as sturdy as a fortress, as penetrative as a fang, and as violent and wide-ranging as a storm, knocked out and obliterated almost all the arrows above the sky.

There were a few stray arrows that seemed to be inscribed with higher quality runes and shot by stronger demon archers that managed to avoid or withstand Veylan's Storm Fang Wave. However, he wasn't worried as he wasn't fighting alone on the battlefield.

Without needing his commands, the mage legion within the Valford Imperial Army immediately raised their magic staves and pointed them towards the few stray arrows.

"Wind Magic: Wind Breakthrough!"

"Wind Magic: Wind Barrier!"

A strong gust of wind collided with the stray arrows, causing the wind to offset its momentum and even move it backwards.

Some mages didn't have great confidence in their comrades' aim, so they set up wind barriers, which proved to be useful as they blocked the only stray arrow that the Wind Magic: Wind Breakthrough spell missed.

If that one stray arrow had been allowed to succeed, it would have gravely injured a C-rank Sigil Adept or even killed them if it landed on the head or heart. Of course, even if it did, the Sigil Priests in the army weren't just there for show, as not only could they purify demonic corruption but also heal and support the soldiers.

Even if they did die, Isolde would intervene to resurrect them. Although her resurrection skill would be less effective the more mangled the corpse or longer the time of death was, it still was a miraculous skill that she shouldn't be possessing at such a low power level.

No matter what, as long as Isolde didn't die prematurely, she undoubtedly would become the number one greatest support and healer.

Elyndra was well aware of the potential and talents of her teammates, and that's why she chose them in the first place. Aside from them being trustworthy, Elyndra also didn't give up on the throne of the Valtoria Empire, and having confidants like them would greatly assist her in the throne succession trial.

After the demons failed their arrow attack, the demon archers stationed on the city walls didn't put away their bows but waited while the demon soldiers formed an army and left the kingdom.

Demons in the Shattered Throne World's Demon World were quite different from the demon race adjacent to Awakener Earth.

Unlike the demon race in the Demon World adjacent to Earth that had innumerable tribes, species, and clans, the Shattered Throne World's Demon World only had one type of demon.

Those demons all have skin colors with varying shades, but with a similar red color. Not only were the men muscular, even most female demons were, and this Demon World's demon race didn't even have beautiful vampires and succubi.

In most cases, male demons had darker red skin color, while female demons had lighter red skin tone. A pair of spiky horns also protruded from their head, but not all demons had tails behind them.

On their dark red skin, there were runes inscribed on it. They all use sigils like the Shattered Throne World, as sigils were essentially magical spells or elements programmed into an executable code.

Although sigils weren't necessarily required to become stronger, they were shortcuts and even power boosters. A wind mage who uses wind magic would normally lose against an equally powerful wind mage who possessed a wind sigil.

In the demon's case, some of them don't even possess sigils but merely runes to improve their physical power and demonic essence. Unlike sigils, most runes weren't permanent and would lose effect if overused.

Sigils were rare, as Veylan, who possessed five of them, was considered an anomaly. Even B-rank Sigil Lords in the same rank as him would only have two sigils, and they'd be lucky if they have three.

Most of the sigils in the present era were passed down since the Thalorien Empire's destruction, and the profession of sigil carvers was not much different from being lost.

Even the current greatest sigil carver could only create sigils that were far inferior to the ones created by the sigil carvers in the past era. Because of that, those who couldn't acquire sigils would resort to using runes to improve their power, even if it was temporary, as it was better than not using them.

The difficulty of creating sigils was very high, as sigils were runes combined to achieve a certain effect. Sigil carvers were basically programmers, but instead of using code, they used runes.

The lack of powerful sigils was also one of the main reasons why Veylan could no longer improve his power to reach A-rank. It was said that the Lion Emperor of the Thalorien Empire had possessed ten sigils, and the Lion Sigil was one of them, yet most of those sigils were destroyed in his fight against the Demon Lords and Demon King.

After the Throne of Unity was shattered and the world was demoted to B-rank, the world power level limit was reduced to B-rank, and that's why no one could naturally become an A-rank Sigil Grand Lord. If Veylan had lived in the Thalorien Empire Era, he would have long become an A-rank Sigil Grand Lord.

Of course, with the progress of merging all the fragments of the Throne of Unity, it won't be long before the Shattered Throne World becomes an A-rank world again.

Moreover, Nyx wasn't slacking off during the past six months since they arrived in the Shattered Throne World, as she had already researched sigils, runes, and the power system of this world.

In the Shattered Throne World, she was undoubtedly the Number One Sigil Carver and could even create sigils superior to Veylan's Lion Sigil. It's also the reason why Aria could engrave runes into her machinery and weaponry.

Awakeners weren't strictly limited to just the Awakener Earth's power system, as that's the reason why sub-classes existed.

Elyndra and her team had previously completed a side mission that granted an A-rank Sigil Carver sub-class a few months ago. It went without saying that Nyx was the one to whom they gave it, as only she and Aria were compatible with it.

Aria had refused the A-rank Sigil Carver sub-class, as she planned to have a sub-class that was related to blacksmithing or anything that could aid her SSS-rank Machina Maker sub-class. She didn't want to be limited to creating machines, as she also wanted to forge powerful weapons.

After all, Aria already decided for her role to be the team's weaponry, armory, and machinery manufacturer. She'll be in charge of filling up their arsenal and possibly even being the team's scientist, but that was for the future when they would encounter a technologically advanced world.

Back to the war at hand, the demons were wielding their melee weapons that ranged from waraxes, swords, spears, etc. The demonic essence surging within their body and the runes amplifying their power made them a force to be reckoned with.

"Butcher those humans!"

"I haven't tasted human flesh for decades now. How kind of them to deliver themselves to our world!"

When the demons saw those soldiers wearing steel-like armor, they all recognized them as "canned" food. They were confident of using the weapons in their hand to open those humans' armor and eat the flesh inside, like canned food.

The demons in this Demon World were truly different from those demons invading Awakener Earth. After all, the demon race invading Awakener Earth only had some species that ate humans.

However, in this Demon World, almost all of the demons eat human flesh since for them, humans were food filled with nutrients. The mana essence and sigils that humans would become nourishment for their growth, as long as they devoured them.

Veylan and the soldiers weren't surprised by the demons being attracted to their flesh, as the Crimson Faith Cult was the greatest evidence of the demon race's interest in eating human flesh.

The Crimson Faith Cult was infamous for human trafficking, as they would abduct those who were suitable to be nurtured as human livestock. Those who weren't would be converted into one of them.

Even if it wasn't for the sake of completing the Otherworld Mission's Main Mission, Elyndra and her team would have destroyed the Crimson Faith Cult for that reason.

With the demon soldiers craving the flesh of the Valford Imperial Army's soldiers, Veylan took the lead in attacking the demons as he gripped his greatsword and swung it, "Storm Lion Fang Wave!"
