Chapter 138: The Demon King’s Cowardice Or Scheme?
"Storm Lion Fang Wave!"
A violent and sharp golden sword wave cleaved the area in front of Veylan. Like cutting through paper, those demons who stood in his path were all sliced into minced meat.
Even when some demons were lucky or strong enough to avoid Veylan's Storm Lion Fang Wave, the golden mana essence that lingered on their body wreaked havoc like a violent storm, tearing apart their body.
Losing that badly to Elyndra didn't mean that Veylan was weak, just that Elyndra was too strong. Against these demons, Veylan harvested their lives like a farmer harvesting his crops.
The soldiers behind Veylan weren't just watching and doing nothing as they all participated in the war. With Isolde's Holy Blessing and Elyndra's Crown of Absolute Dominion (SSS), they had become stronger, albeit temporarily.
Whether it was the soldiers' defense or attack power, their overall strength had increased, and Isolde's Holy Blessing even protected them, so they hadn't suffered any casualties yet.
The war continued for ten more minutes, yet not a single soldier had died. On the contrary, the demons were all affected by the debuffs caused by Elyndra's Crown of Absolute Dominion (SSS) class exclusive skill.
Elyndra might not have always used debuffs caused by it to affect the demons in order to temper her soldiers in the battle, but she still let it take effect whenever one of her soldiers was about to die.
As long as the soldiers didn't get killed in one hit, Isolde would wave her magic staff and heal them.
In terms of healing skill, even Isolde surpassed Ainsworth, as Ainsworth couldn't even resurrect dead people unless he used Ultimate Freedom (SSS).
As the war ensued for ten more minutes, the casualties of the demon army kept on increasing as their corpses kept on piling up.
If Nyx were present, she would have already used a forbidden magic spell to reanimate the demon's corpses and used them against the demon army. Unfortunately, she and Aria were tasked to protect the Throne of Unity or else the war would have been more lively.
During the war, Veylan only attacked those who were on the same rank as him and didn't assist the soldiers in defeating those weaker demons. Otherwise, if he slaughtered wantonly, then none of those demons could stop him, and the soldiers wouldn't be able to gain combat experience.
Looking at the tens of thousands of demon corpses littered on the battlefield, Isolde asked Elyndra in boredom, "How come the Demon King hasn't come out of his castle yet? He didn't even send the two Demon Lords into the battlefield."
"Is he too arrogant and underestimating us? Or does he not care about the lives of his army?"
As usual, Mira was sleeping, and while she was paying attention in the battle and had her servants protect her, she didn't converse with them or intervene in the battle.
Knowing that Mira was "conserving her energy" as usual, Isolde didn't bother asking for her opinion and instead chatted with Elyndra.
In response to Isolde's question, Elyndra sneered and mocked the Demon King, "He's cowardly, both as a king and a man. He didn't even lead his soldiers in the war. That alone disqualifies him from being comparable to I."
"If not for him being the strongest in the Demon World, I wouldn't have paid attention to such a cowardly bug. Whatever he is planning, it's in our best interest whether he steps out of his castle or not."
Elyndra smirked coldly as she witnessed the demons being slaughtered, "After all, the longer his cowardice prevailed, the more his soldiers would die. If he doesn't come out, even if all his soldiers are dead, then we'll slaughter all his citizens."
"And if he still doesn't come out, then we'll use Aria's nuke to bomb his castle. No matter what, we aren't dumb enough to barge into his castle and fight in his base. Who knows if there are traps laid by him there, waiting for us to come and trigger them."
Isolde didn't reply, but she nodded, her reverence for Elyndra not being hidden as she indeed looked up to Elyndra and Mira. Not only her, but Aria and Nyx were the same, as they knew that Elyndra was indeed not their equal and worth their fealty.
Don't look at Mira being lazy and always sleeping, but despite Aria's research being costly, she never complained about her funds being low, as the economy of the Valford Empire was inseparable from Mira's efforts.
No matter how lazy she was, it was undeniable that she was worthy of being the heiress of a ten trillion dollar conglomerate. Her father had nurtured her as the rightful heir of the Whitmore Conglomerate, so when it came to money-making, even Elyndra could not match Mira.
Even without the Servants of Sloth, Mira could easily earn a lot of money or obtain a lot of resources if she ever wanted to. Otherwise, if she wasn't that capable, she wouldn't have obtained that class exclusive skill and an SSS-rank Class in the first place.
While Isolde and Elyndra were watching the battle and intervening every now and then, all the demon soldiers were finally slaughtered.
The demon soldiers' corpses were littered across the battlefield.
The Valford Imperial Army stood victorious without a single casualty!
The imperial soldiers didn't have any blood on their faces or bodies, only on their weapons. Isolde's Holy Blessing had purified and cleansed the demon blood whenever it splattered on the soldiers.
The demon race's blood in this world was very corrosive in terms of infecting others with demonic essence. Just their blood alone being in contact with humans would infect them with demonic essence.
Humans who couldn't withstand the demonic essence would degenerate into mindless demons, and those who weren't even durable would die directly.
From another perspective, the demon race in this world was quite similar to zombies. However, instead of infecting via a biological virus, it was through the energy they possessed.
Or rather than zombies' biological infection, the demonic essence was tantamount to spreading like nuclear radiation when demons infected humans with it.
Because of Isolde's Holy Blessing, the demon soldiers' demonic essence didn't affect the imperial soldiers, leading to the Valford Imperial Army's victory.
However, even with the defeat of the demon soldiers, the Demon King still didn't come out of his Demon Castle yet.
Isolde couldn't help but complain, "The Demon King sure is a coward. I can't help but doubt if he truly is one, or if he has already evacuated from his castle and left."
After the Valford Imperial Army's victory, Veylan and the imperial soldiers didn't attack and invade the Demon Kingdom yet, as they hadn't received Elyndra's order yet.
Even Elyndra could guess that something was fishy with how the Demon King didn't even send the two Demon Lords.
"No matter what, even the Demon King wouldn't know that I'm a major rank stronger than him. Even if he is extremely cautious, he won't be able to guess that I greatly exceed his power, and at most, he'll only estimate that I'm on the same rank as him."
Hearing Elyndra's words, Isolde became wary of the Demon King. Undoubtedly, they who waged war on the Demon Race first were now on the light while the Demon King was in the dark, hiding in the shadows.
No matter how powerful Elyndra was, she knew that excessive arrogance would only blind her from caution and danger. Even if she knew how powerful she had become, she still didn't underestimate the Demon King.
Because of that, she hadn't stormed the Demon Castle yet with Mira and Isolde as she was waiting for the Demon King to make the first move in order to test his power.
While figuring out the scheme of the Demon King, Elyndra requested Mira, "Mira, create servants and order them to scout the Demon King's castle and report back to us about what that coward bug is doing."
Receiving Elyndra's request, Mira didn't say anything as she was too lazy to do so. She merely heeded her request and created Servants of Sloth.
A hundred pure white humanoid figures wearing butler and maid outfits appeared beside Mira. As soon as they appeared, they disappeared and reappeared above the Demon King's castle.
Afterwards, they barged into the Demon King's castle.
And when they did, Mira's sleeping face showed a frown.
Mira's dream-like voice sounded in the real world despite her not physically uttering any word, as she stated, "All one hundred of my servants died as soon as they stepped inside the Demon King's castle. They couldn't even relay any information to me regarding the interior of the Demon Castle or what the Demon King is doing."
Hearing Mira's words, Elyndra and Isolde couldn't help but be surprised as all the Servants of Sloth were as powerful as Mira's base power. In other words, a hundred One-Star B-rank Awakener stepped into the Demon Castle yet died before even seeing the Demon King's face.
"Forget about the army training. At this rate, all my soldiers will die, and I don't want them to die meaninglessly."
Elyndra was alarmed by the possible scheming of the Demon King, so she decisively commanded, "Mira, contact Aria. We'll nuke the demon castle!"
