Starting from Prototype to Immortality

Chapter 46: Chapter 46-47: Raccoon City!

Chapter 46-47: Raccoon City!

The movie version of Resident Evil doesn't seem as powerful as the game version. After all, the games have even introduced molds that grant individuals superhuman abilities.

However, the movie version still has some incredible viruses, such as the T-virus.

In the earlier movies, before they started retconning or changing settings, Alice, who was infected with and perfectly merged with the T-virus, demonstrated astonishing capabilities. Notably, after surviving a nuclear explosion, Alice showcased feats like telekinetically killing someone through a surveillance monitor and even destroying a satellite in outer space.

Such performances would crush even Miranda from the games, not to mention Veronica.

And yet… this overpowered telekinesis ability was sealed away. Later, Alice reverted to fighting bio-organic monsters, especially Wesker, with guns and sheer determination.

Perhaps the budget had all gone to hiring actors, leaving no room for special effects. While there were still large-scale scenes, none of them were personal superpower showcases for Alice.

But for Chang Wei, this was an exciting surprise. Telekinesis! True telekinesis!

Based on Alice's performance, her mental abilities lacked the properties of "mind control" and "telepathy." Combined with their physical manifestations and effects, it was indeed telekinesis.

"Raccoon City…"

Chang Wei felt a bit regretful. He'd really hoped to see the fresh and youthful Jill, Ada Wong, and even the rookie with the bowl cut.

Raccoon City is one of the most successful fictional cities in gaming history, alongside others like Silent Hill and Liberty City from GTA.

Gotham City? That's undoubtedly a successful fictional city as well, but the comics came first, not the games, so it doesn't count in gaming history.

Jill suddenly understood. She had appeared in the news a few times, even though she wasn't particularly interested in it. Her good looks made her a frequent choice for public appearances, much to her dismay.

As they approached, Jill and Peyton both froze.

They felt as though Chang Wei was some ferocious beast, radiating an overwhelming sense of danger. His piercing eyes were filled with a rebellious and icy indifference, much like a predator sizing up its prey.

What the hell? They were actually frightened!

And yet, this priest was undeniably handsome.

"Father, are you the only one in the church?"

The group introduced themselves to each other.

Jill Valentine, an elite officer from the Special Tactics and Rescue Service (STARS).

Terri, a journalist who was mostly a pretty face, a liability, and a hindrance.

Sergeant Peyton, who seemed to have a passive invisibility skill—not that it mattered, since zombies relied on hearing rather than sight. Otherwise, he could have single-handedly mowed through hordes of zombies.

"No."

Chang Wei's gaze landed on the headless corpse of a young man lying on the ground.

"What's this?"

Jill's hand moved instinctively to the gun at her waist.

"He broke down. Came in and committed suicide."

Chang Wei spoke calmly.

Jill inspected the body but felt something was off. Just as she was about to say something, a sudden noise drew her attention.

Something large was moving above, on the ceiling.

Jill immediately crouched, gripping her gun with both hands and aiming at the ceiling. Peyton mirrored her actions almost simultaneously.

"What is that? A bird?"

But Chang Wei "saw" exactly what it was: the iconic side character and cannon fodder of Resident Evil—the Licker!

With exposed, crimson muscles resembling a dissected frog from anatomy class, its forelimbs were unusually developed and armed with sharp claws. Its brain was visible and exposed to the air, but this was a trap. The Licker's true weakness lay in its chest, where its heart was located. However, even knowing its weak spot, its prone, rapid movements made it incredibly hard to land a critical hit.

Fortunately, even without targeting vital points, sufficient damage could deplete the T-virus within it, rendering it unable to repair and regenerate.

After all, even someone like Chang Wei, with the Imperial Blacklight Virus, wouldn't dare claim he was truly immortal.

The Licker was likely drawn by the scent of the young man's blood. Fresh DNA was an irresistible lure for these creatures.

By continually obtaining fresh DNA, Lickers could evolve. The one at the end of the first movie was a Type II, and later films even featured a massive Licker that had undergone countless evolutions.

The church in Resident Evil: Apocalypse had a fair number of Lickers. It was highly likely that the old priest's actions—sacrificing innocents to feed his zombified sister—had drawn them here.

In other words, even if Alice and her group hadn't come to the church, the old priest wouldn't have lasted long.

"Crash!"

Something shattered a window and entered. Jill and Peyton looked up in alarm, their fear escalating.

"What is that? It's so fast!"

"I don't know. Don't talk. These creatures attack based on sound."

Jill and Peyton instinctively shielded Chang Wei and the journalist, Terri. Both of them were deeply responsible individuals.
